The music is so cool, the use of such odd progressions and chord arrangements is such a revelation for the avid music listener;I remember this song grabbing me young.
This album is like Simple Minds- Sons and Fascination. They could have been recorded today and still have the effect that they had almost 30 years ago. Very few bands have been able to do that.
Not sure what Ergaster said, but it looks like I'm not the only one hearing Talking Heads here! LOL. Cool song though; a lot more new wave-ish than their other songs that I know. Interesting to hear this for the first time.
@11Jamie11 Wow, that's the first thing I thought when I heard the intro. Something about the percussion that sounds very Talking Heads. Somehow this song (and probably the rest of Shuttered Room?) have slipped by me. I thought I had the album, but I bought it long after Reach the Beach, Phantoms and Walkabout.
@veloboy To me it's a cross between Talking Heads, Oingo Boingo and early Japan (the band and the country -- esp. in the video's visuals). David Sylvian of Japan and Cy seemed to be sharing the same hair stylist (or at least the same wish to look like Bowie ... ;) ... If you compare Some People to, say, "Visions of China" by Japan, you'll hear musical similarities, too.
But even with echoes from other bands, Fixx had their own distinct sound early on. Reach and Phantoms refined it.
Holy smokes. I've been a Fixx fan since '83 and I never knew there was a video for this song! Thanks for posting it. Great song, but I fairly certain that I could've come up with a better video. ;)
David Bowie! LOL
