  • This was a pointless answer on pointless just now.

  • Not sure why this is not played on radio more often, Unless it is requested it will not be heard, Great xmas song.

  • i love this bass line :D

  • Very cool sound. It was sort of co-opted by the Tom Tom Club. It's time it came back.

  • i have to say i hate christmas songs, but this one is awesome :)

  • heck, ill break the rules. listen to this song in spring, summer, and fall, too! great song!

  • I'm incredibly disappointed in my local radio, if this is the most requested Christmas pop song. I was alive during the '80s and have always listened to '80s alt-pop friendly stations. Yet I have NEVER heard this song. It took that godawful episode of freakin' Glee to make me hunt this down after I heard it and went, "That sound so '80s...Waitresses-ish." *sigh* Well, better late than never, I guess.

  • took me forever to figure out the song but had the chorus stuck in my head and no1 knew what i was talking bout lol luv it.... and ty google :)

  • I Love This The Waitresses 1981 Christmas Hit, "Christmas Wrapping."

  • @ancienttraver19881989 The reason it never hit the charts is because it was part of a "new wave" xmas compilation album. Radio DJ,s picked it out as the stand out track,so it was rush released as a single but only made number 45 in the UK as it was put out to late for the xmas charts.

  • I did not hear this one on the radio this year and I was all humbug! Thanks YouTubes!

  • This is by far one of the best songs for Christmas

  • @MrHarryBawls2012 Im sorry to disappoint but it was in fact Chris Butler who wrote this and not Mr Harry Bawls

  • @MrHarryBawls2012

Thank you for making me smile...Merry Christmas.

  • favorite christmas song <33333

  • HOW CAN YOU NOT BUG TO THIS!!THIS SONG IS THE BEST!

  • WHEN I SAW WAITRESSES I THOUGHT IT WOULD BE I KNOW WHAT ELVES LIKE I KNOW WHAT SANTA WANTS. BUT IT IS A REAL TUNE.

  • I don't believe in CHRISTmas magic. I believe in JESUS CHRIST. Have a merry CHRISTmas yall. 2012 is going to be an awesome year! Come LORD JESUS CHRIST!

  • @peacheslovesjesus if you believe in Jesus, why are you celebrating a pagan holiday that in its origins is the very opposite of what Jesus taught? Y'all enjoy your hypocrisy ya hear ;)

  • @alphaniall Peaches said Christmas. Not "Santa", "tree", or "presents". If you love Jesus, shouldn't you celebrate his birth? Merry Christmas :)

  • @gluechucker Because Jesus was born in the spring. Check your history. And Christmas is an amalgamation of pre-Christian pagan holidays combined with Christian beliefs so that the new Christian leaders didn't have a mass rebellion on their hands when they went and forced everyone to practice Christianity. Feel free to look it up. It's all part of history.

  • @DragonEyes11 Christmas is what you make of it. So is history. Especially when there's beliefs involved. It all depends on who you ask. Ultimately, though, I guess "Y'all enjoy your hypocrisy ya hear ;)" came off insincere/sarcastic, in my opinion, and doesn't seem representative of a Christian attitude.

  • @gluechucker you are quite correct, it was entirely "insincere/sarcastic", just like most people in churches at this time of year.

But I do like the song ;)

  • this song makes me nod my head around i cant help it!!!

  • One of my top five favorite xmas tunes! Love it!

  • Shit song- but Merry Christmas!

  • What a great tune, Merry Christmas everyone!

  • First time I heard this was in Merry Christmas Drake and Josh like 3 years ago. :P Am i alone?

  • Going out on a limb here, but the middle eight is very Zappa-esque.

  • @justlettersandnumber Er...I think I meant the chorus.

  • Love it as much today as when it was new in the gay dance clubs in Chicago.

  • This has been, if I'm not mistaken, the most requested Christmas pop song on the radio over the last 30 years.

  • @ChrisDutch

And probably for the next 30!

  • @ChrisDutch

It's no wonder really - it's funky as Hell.

  • @ilikerossi tell me about it.

  • I've always loved this record, since first hearing it , I think, on Rodney's radio show, and it is a very sweet story, like a movie, or an O. Henry story, written very well, with a big heart!

  • For some reason my boyfriend loves this song.....

  • classic love it now like i loved it then

  • ahhh- Christmas in the 80's.

  • R.I.P Patty Donahue! great song! great band!!!

  • One of the coolest basslines EVER!! Listen to Outkast's version of this & their Favourite Things!!

  • It's not Christmastime until I hear this song.

  • i've loved this song since i was seven years old!!

  • Glee actually brought me here. Lol. I had never heard the song before and just loved it. :D

  • Why is it i never hear this on the radio? instead they play the crappiest of crap christmas songs

  • i love this song so much

  • ahh the waitressses they were peachy fun

  • @MrHarryBawls2012 cool, whats the notes for intro riff?

  • i saw fred claus and after listen that song

    woow

    good song

  • Thumbs up if Fred Clause brought you here.

  • BTW, the singer is Patty Donahue who passed away from lung cancer in 1996.

  • I agree that Glee sucks!! This is the real deal. The last great Christmas songs were written in the 80's. RIP Patty Donahue.

  • @jjzuc

Some of the last great songs of all time were written in the 80's. Few songs today can hardly be compared.

  • My favourite Christmas song.

  • u guys should check out glees version

it gives a faster pace to this great song

  • @kidswhoplayCOD

    GLEE SUCKS!!!!

  • I always thought that it was Debbie Harry singing this song...

  • I don't know who sings this, but she sounds like every girl I ever fancied in school.

  • Good grief, this song is 30 years old!! I feel old.

  • this song is EPIC!

  • The only Christmas song I like....

  • Spice Girls' version is so much better!

  • @RuubinSelena You're stupid.

  • @TwistedSister09 No! That is my opinion! You are the stupid one for attacking me for merely stating my opinion...

  • @RuubinSelena Originals are the best.

  • @TwistedSister09 Sometimes, in my opinion, not this time!

  • @RuubinSelena

You can of course like The Spice Girls version better...but it's The Waitresses version you'll here all over the place;-)

  • @hyspeses Never heard it anywhere else, I thought it was a Spice Girls original until I searched for the lyrics!

  • @RuubinSelena haha! how can you say that? this song totally fits the nonchalant vocal style of the waitresses. spice girls MURDERED it!! (also, they reference tesco. evil)

  • @morganchrisj This is the first song I've ever heard from this group! That is your opinion, I enjoy it quite much! I CBA about a Tesco reference!

  • i said me too, but why are you.. you mean you forgot cranberries too?

  • My fave Xmas song it lifts my spirits for 28 years.

  • i was wondering wat this song was when i first heard it in the drake and josh Christmas episode. took like three years lol

  • I love this song because I think it is a Christmas song that adults can relate to. It wasn't until I became an adult that I understood that Christmas is a crazy time and having Christmas by yourself could be really relaxing!

  • not really in the christmas mood, until I hear this song!!

  • I honestly thought I already knew every Christmas song, this ones so catchy!

  • My brother loves this song as he watches from above !

  • my favourite for 30 years. Yikes!

  • One of the few Christmas songs I like. (:

  • Now that is what I call, a rockin' Merry Christmas time!!!!!

  • my favoirite christmas song of all time screw every other. i know what boys like lol

  • Is everyone commenting deaf? This is the worst Christmas song ever! The only one that could rival it is, Simply Having a Wonderful Christmas by The Beetles.

  • @JoeHalt This is an awesome song. How about you name some good christmas songs then..?

  • @JoeHalt Tune in next year when we answer the question: JoeHalt idiot or troll?

  • I don't know why, but this song makes me laugh. There's just something about it that I find funny. xD

  • This is a classic. Thanks for posting!

  • hooks everywhere, tons of spirit, and BASS to die for.

  • hey look no commercial. ill watch this one.

  • Oh MAN. I've been searching for this for weeks- years even. I will absolutely never forget this title again. Adore this song.

  • This is the farthest thing from a rap song.Albeit they are referring to wrapping.A cr-ap song

at christmas would be more in tune with the likes of,oh say, slay bells ringing or slay ride.

neighborhood drive bys, capping carolers ruining other peoples lives for kicks.Santa loves

    everyone.Even gayngs!

  • @s2ndegree cool story bro

  • Love the horns

  • Sounds like Blondie going a Christmas song, its brilliant.

Also one of THE best basslines i've ever heard.

  • such a sax riff!

  • I heard this song on the radio this morning after completely forgetting about... SUCH A CLASSIC!!!

  • hey christmas is almost here

  • Just totally fantastic! IT'S CHRISTMAS AGAIN Merry xmas everyone!!

  • 20 thumbs up and ill do this for my school Christmas concert (on bass guitar)

  • @epicdill666 now you gotta do it, haha

  • @dnj3391 i did it and i fucking rocked

  • And, plus, the track just SOUNDS so good, and always has. My only copy of this is on an early CD, when the record companies didn't know how to master them yet. The incredibly gutsy sound rips right through the crappy mastering. Don't ask my how I know the CD is badly mastered. I just know. Or so I like to think...

  • Dang....can't believe it's been 30 years!!!! Hated it when it came out, but now, my holidays would be incomplete without it.

  • Finally december is here :D

  • the rhyme structure and flow in this is better than alot of actual rap

  • I hear Chic and Blondie influence hear...

  • Thank you so much for this song!! XXX

  • Sick bass line.

  • Wait, this was a rap song? Doesn't sound like rap to me. Sounds more like techno.

  • @mwermuthland techno?! are you joking? theres nothing remotely techno about it :P It's like a blend of funk and ska with rap over the top

  • @mwermuthland Rap was much different in 80-81 compared to 85. Check out Rapture by Blondie that part in there is rapping.

  • i've built a time machine and am now listening to this in the future. lolzzzz

  • @ericjason Give me next week's lotto numbers then

  • @rydag11 10, 16, 19, 34, 40, 46

can't tell you the bonus number... that, of course, would be cheating.

  • GLEE version is ok, but this one is BEAST!

  • @LarryTheWaterBalloon Glee did this? :( The Spice Girls' version was bad enough.

  • If you're listening to this song in November and it's not on Youtube...congratulations you work retail.

  • Always enjoy getting the Christmas season off by listening to this a few times on the day after Thanksgiving.

  • Love to see a video,...reminds me lately of, "education, co-nect-shun",..."

  • Exactly 30 years later and it still sounds as good now as it did back then. I never tire of it. Patty had the coolest voice. It was a fun, sexy, kind of whiny sound. Yet,it also had a very "up yours, dick head" like sound, with a major attitude attached to it. And it worked perfectly.

  • Its that time of year again...

    Presents

    Stress

    Too much food :)

  • RIP Patty Donahue

  • @goldenrod2 Bless the Patty,...then bless this food,.....

  • @goldenrod2 who?

  • @er20092009 Patty Donahue...the singer here from The Waitresses...she died quite some time ago, now.

  • The bassline = win

  • It's not even an issue to listen to this song all year round. Love it.

  • The most amazing thing about this song is that it never made the charts when it was released but still gets massive airplay as if it was. There was loads of Xmas songs in the 70,s + 80,s but 95% are forgotten to history.Proof it,s a great record? I think so.

  • so corny that its good

  • one of the best christmas songs ever :)

  • there's something about this christmas song (waittress version)...it's not differently epic, it's differently "epistemic"...the whole notion of how secular rock came to know or recognise the personal experience of the sanctity of the holiday. If anyone else understands this, message me.

  • Damn That chick from Glee better not ruin this song! >:(

  • haha i love to see all the glee related comments!

i can not wait for heather to sing this is the most perfect song for her!!

    GLEE RULE THE WORLD!

  • Hear it soon in Glee !

  • HEATHER SING THIS NOOOW! I WANT MY NOVEMBER!!!

  • Glee ! Yaaay brittany :D Lol

  • BRITTANY S. PEIRCE!!!!!!!

  • GLEE IS COVERING THIS!!! MY LIFE IS COMPLETE

  • Epic!!!

  • a terrif piece of music that is sooo rarely played during the season.

  • god, i hope glee doesnt cover this.

  • @stepfather666 Too late...THe girl covering this song is a bad singer too.

  • @TwistedSister09 girls*

  • @MikeyyRFCx Brittany Pierce or whatever is singing it. The dumb blonde...

  • GLEE IS GONNNA COVER THIS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • im feeling christmassy!!!

  • whose out there now

  • I can relate to some of the things this song talks about. Being so busy that I can't always relax and enjoy Christmas.

  • @Seattlecarnut Yes....someone is getting the message of the rock

  • @newagecozaki Except for Elton John's Step Into Christmas, there weren't that many Christmas songs out there at the time that aren't Frank Sinatra or Elvis Presley. Something different. I love this song.
