I'm incredibly disappointed in my local radio, if this is the most requested Christmas pop song. I was alive during the '80s and have always listened to '80s alt-pop friendly stations. Yet I have NEVER heard this song. It took that godawful episode of freakin' Glee to make me hunt this down after I heard it and went, "That sound so '80s...Waitresses-ish." *sigh* Well, better late than never, I guess.
@ancienttraver19881989 The reason it never hit the charts is because it was part of a "new wave" xmas compilation album. Radio DJ,s picked it out as the stand out track,so it was rush released as a single but only made number 45 in the UK as it was put out to late for the xmas charts.
I don't believe in CHRISTmas magic. I believe in JESUS CHRIST. Have a merry CHRISTmas yall. 2012 is going to be an awesome year! Come LORD JESUS CHRIST!
@peacheslovesjesus if you believe in Jesus, why are you celebrating a pagan holiday that in its origins is the very opposite of what Jesus taught? Y'all enjoy your hypocrisy ya hear ;)
@gluechucker Because Jesus was born in the spring. Check your history. And Christmas is an amalgamation of pre-Christian pagan holidays combined with Christian beliefs so that the new Christian leaders didn't have a mass rebellion on their hands when they went and forced everyone to practice Christianity. Feel free to look it up. It's all part of history.
@DragonEyes11 Christmas is what you make of it. So is history. Especially when there's beliefs involved. It all depends on who you ask. Ultimately, though, I guess "Y'all enjoy your hypocrisy ya hear ;)" came off insincere/sarcastic, in my opinion, and doesn't seem representative of a Christian attitude.
@DragonEyes11 if Jesus died in the spring (just after passover) and he was thirty three and half when he died, how does that add up? would that not mean he was born in the Autumn, Oct/Nov time?
I've always loved this record, since first hearing it , I think, on Rodney's radio show, and it is a very sweet story, like a movie, or an O. Henry story, written very well, with a big heart!
Hi everyone. Check out my new video, ‘Eighties Christmas Timeline’! It’s me playing a medley of Eighties Christmas songs on Keyboards. This song is in there!
@RuubinSelena haha! how can you say that? this song totally fits the nonchalant vocal style of the waitresses. spice girls MURDERED it!! (also, they reference tesco. evil)
I love this song because I think it is a Christmas song that adults can relate to. It wasn't until I became an adult that I understood that Christmas is a crazy time and having Christmas by yourself could be really relaxing!
Is everyone commenting deaf? This is the worst Christmas song ever! The only one that could rival it is, Simply Having a Wonderful Christmas by The Beetles.
Love this song! would be a Christmas for me to not hear this & laugh with friends having spiced eggnog with a roaring fire popping! Merry Christmas & Happy Holidays you tube peeps! ;)
I'll be cranking this one up along with Billy Squire "Christmas Is A Time To Say I Love You" while driving through downtown Saratoga Springs NY on Christmas Eve with the top down.... I figure if the Polar Bear Club can jump in Lake George in the cold of winter why cant I drop the top in December and spread a little holiday cheer!
And, plus, the track just SOUNDS so good, and always has. My only copy of this is on an early CD, when the record companies didn't know how to master them yet. The incredibly gutsy sound rips right through the crappy mastering. Don't ask my how I know the CD is badly mastered. I just know. Or so I like to think...
Exactly 30 years later and it still sounds as good now as it did back then. I never tire of it. Patty had the coolest voice. It was a fun, sexy, kind of whiny sound. Yet,it also had a very "up yours, dick head" like sound, with a major attitude attached to it. And it worked perfectly.
The most amazing thing about this song is that it never made the charts when it was released but still gets massive airplay as if it was. There was loads of Xmas songs in the 70,s + 80,s but 95% are forgotten to history.Proof it,s a great record? I think so.
the reason being that when the 'Now Thats What I Call Christmas' record came out someone at the record company must have liked this/wanted to try to hype it and had the licensing to it and included it as the only flop on the album - it was completely unknown back then (and should have stayed that way) . How could they put this shit on but leave Kurtis Blow's 'Christmas Rappin off? Probably because its just the kind of thing that some record company exec would like.
there's something about this christmas song (waittress version)...it's not differently epic, it's differently "epistemic"...the whole notion of how secular rock came to know or recognise the personal experience of the sanctity of the holiday. If anyone else understands this, message me.
@newagecozaki Except for Elton John's Step Into Christmas, there weren't that many Christmas songs out there at the time that aren't Frank Sinatra or Elvis Presley. Something different. I love this song.
This was a pointless answer on pointless just now.
