  • Very nice!! =)

  • Do you have the music sheet to give to us?

  • i thought i told you to round the wagons pilgrim

  • I don't get all these comments giving this person unasked for tips and criticism. I understand it may not be how YOU would play it or prefer it, but it is beautifully played none the less and should just be enjoyed for what it is, a wonderful classic song played with talent and sentiment. Nice job Tomad16, love listening.

  • A bit rigid, try using a little more swing to get it sounding really nice. Listen to some recordings of this song by jazz pianists to give you a better idea. This is one of my favorite songs to play. Great job!

  • awesome

  • need to work on those voicings

  • Very nice... one of the best versions on YouTube.

  • too rigid...

  • This is the song that Cliff used to play to set the mood with Claire in the early episodes of the Cosby Show. Nice work!

  • The bridge is fine, not the augmented that is out of the fake book. My only comment is loosen up. Take some liberties with the rhyth and time and make someone elses arrangmrnt a little more your own

  • Melody in the bridge is not correct..

  • O usas mal el pedal

  • Creo que el piano está desafinado

  • ma chi suona qui?

  • chocolately, mmmmmmmmmm luv it

  • lol?

  • is this you playing? it's very nice. the ethereal melody makes me feel chocolately. :)

  • Yes - thanks :) haha

  • @tomad16 Hi, Could you send me the song plzzzz i really like it and i want to use it for my English project, if thats ok with u so plzzzzzzzzz??? :D

  • @tomad16 What do you mean by chocolately? Or chocolatey, if either of you had spelled it right.

  • haha same

  • This song is my favorite by Ellington. Just wonderful!

  • overkill on the sustain the whole time...other than that it was excellent.

  • My favorite part is 1:30

  • really good man!!!!

  • Very nice job, I do prefer the song to be a bit slower though

  • You should be giving credit to Tim Richards who created this arrangement.

    Thanks Tim.... Great series.

I especially loved the explanation of McCoy Tyner's use of fourths in impressions, i think in volume 2, its in the other room : ) what a neat sound that has. You really helped bridge me into jazz, and things are feeling a lot more comfortable due to you, thanks! not there yet though....

  • yess - fine hands for the piano

  • Ahh, this is lovely. Lovely recording too! The piano sounds gorgeous.

  • Fail. Gorgeous sounding piano (from what I can tell), but improperly recorded. The entire thing is clipping. That said, I very much enjoyed the performance. Have always loved this tune.

  • Jofferman, I'm not stupid. I can hear the clipping and I can hear that this recording has been made on equipment that hasn't had gain levels set. But ignore the clipping, and there's something really nice about this recording. I love distorted, compressed sounding recordings, esp on pianos like this. Loveliness is all subjective. I am a producer and engineer so I know very well that this is not a good recording, but a lovely recording, in my eyes, yes.

  • Well played, but give me some credit! This is my arrangement of this tune! The 'jazz book' you mention that it appears in is 'Exploring Jazz Piano, Vol 1', published by Schott (2005) - I'm the author. The arrangement also appeared in the fall 2006 issue of the US magazine 'Piano Today'. Tim Richards.

  • Wow - honoured to speak to the arranger of this piece! Sorry for not crediting you - I couldn't remember what book I learnt this from! I'll update the video description.

Well, thanks for writing this; I and many others clearly love this arrangement! (even when played shoddily!)

  • hehe, i was gonna mention... this ain't duke playing!

  • Funny you'd remove a comment from Tim Richards, he arranged this! BE FARE! this is the internet... everyone is watching... listening... with a good ear that is. Thanks for the thoughts Tim...

  • He was the one who removed it (same post twice)... and, I have given him credit..?

  • Comment removed

  • Sonny Rollins improvised this tune a zillion ways each time better than the last. Ellington is one of the great composers of the American Song Book, so it's only natural that various artist will present their own creative stamp on Dukes's standards.

  • this is one of my favorite standards of all time, and you play it so well. :)

  • duke was black.. fake

  • hihii think duke was BLACK ...

  • can anyone tell me what hip hop song, besides asheru's mood swing, is sampled from this track?

  • fake

  • Well done!!!!

  • i think santana the guitarist copied a little from this

  • ahuauh, you made me think to that! can it happens... pentatonic has only 5 notes ihihih

  • do you have the sheet music?

  • i kind of like this out of tune it sounds kind of creepy and even sadder.

  • yeah, i agree

  • Nice, but get the piano tuned and post it again

  • great thanks

  • exelentes acordes

  • classic

  • exelente

  • la suono meglio io cl clarinetto

  • Schnarch!

  • excellent

  • This is great!!!!!

  • exellent!

  • AMAZING *_*

  • Por pura coincidencia llegué a esta maravilla

  • great vid! may i be the first one to cheesily ask where you got the sheets?

  • it's in exploring jazz piano 1 of tim richards.

  • thanks!

  • I played this song on my Bari-sax for a band recital. I fell in love with this song- and nice job :)

  • Which book is this in?

  • I listened to all the versions of this on youtube but this is my favourite. Simple and beautiful

  • Haven't seen them all, but this is a great one. This song can be overdone, but subtlely is the best way to play this without a doubt.

This makes me want to go practice piano again.

  • Antonio542 are you Jamaican?

  • Well done!!!! jah blessed!!

  • Well Played.

  • OMG i play exactly the same version!! Haha! Also, try playing it slower, u get more feeling out of it that way!

  • This=sheet

  • uhm..ya

    this isnt Duke Ellington

  • Me gusta mucho. Lo encuentro de una enorme finura, simple, elegante, y a la vez respeta el original. Lo tengo en mis favoritos.

  • im playing this on trumpet at my school's jazz evening tomorrow and i must admit it is a beautiful piece and i hope i can do it justice!!!

  • Beautifully done. i have a version of this, almost the same, but much much better on mp3, more feelings. this one is a little robotic compared to the version i got

  • Beautiful, I'm currently working on an arrangement of that piece.

  • thanks

  • what are the two chords that you used to transition into the modulation (where the lyric goes "rose pedals seem to fall").

  • Eb minor 7/9, Ab 7 (I think)
