I was the one who named it the KAY, after Kay Vaughn, coping her from the early 40's movies and we didn't know the name of the step so we (Lisa) just named it after her, because her partner Lenny had a few steps we named after him. Check out the Groovie Movie for the lenny and Kay...that's the Kay...

all I know is what my coach told me, and he himself having been around for quite a while told me that the k-flip what like a kip but the lands on her feet instead of going for the floor touch with the hand.
