The Beatles were not a musically talented band (at least not the the fame they received.) They were 90% culturally important for the times. The people needed them at the time, and they delivered. To say they were the "best" band in existence? No. But to say they were "one of" the most important bands would be more appropriate.

Sorry, but I disagree with your first sentence... they were ridiculously talented. I've 'studied' many of their songs; the chord progressions, the solos, the fills, the lyrics, and to be quite honest, it is genius. Even their early 'pop' stuff was pretty darn complex for a band like them. I don't mean to argue, just my opinion.
