unbelievable! i'm so impressed with salma right now! lots of westerners, i think, associate nursing someone else's baby with the old time wet nurses who breast fed the infants of the aristocracy, the thinking in those times being that the socialite mother was too frail for it and it was better left to a working class woman with a stronger constitution - then also left the child to be raised by another as well. truth is, milk is milk. food is food. if there's a child in need, why wouldn't you?

And as for just donating formula, there are tons of risks with formula. #1 is you need clean water to mix with it. #2. Baby's digestive tracts are immature and can't easily digest all the artificial nutrition in formula. But obviously in this situation some nutrition is better than none. Too bad there aren't milk banks there so mother's who do have milk can donate some. The body can easlily make milk to support twins, so its a though. :)

AW! This is so awesome! <3 it. I don't know why there is this stigma with breastfeeding and milk sharing. As adults we'll drink the breast milk of a cow and not think twice but human breastmilk is seen as "icky". I can say for certain that my breasts have never had manure on them and I'm not routinely shot up with antibiotics!

i think that is beautiful.. when i was breastfeading my children i donated some of my breast milk to the neo natal unit for prem babies .. i didnt feel guilty that i was taking milk away from my children as i could always make more.. no waste ..brill start in life..the trouble is breasts have been over sexualised but their function is clear its for feeding babies.. not just for partners to play with.. absolutly brillient experience and id do it again if i could..

It's a total PR move all the way. But the dangers in doing this in real life is that if the kid has some disease (like Tuberculosis, etc), she will get it. There's so many people dieing of hunger in the US but they want to do a PR move by going to Africa. Whether it be a PR stunt or not, an unfortunate child is still being benifited, which is a good thing of Hayek, she didn't HAVE to do that, she doesn't HAVE to do anything she doesn't want to. But she did.
