Wow, they sound more like cockatiels than cockatoos. How fascinating! What a magnificent bird!
From what we we told, our amazon parrot was also wild-caught. Most parrots, even the ones who seem feral, would probably not last long in the wild. It's our responsibility to take care of the domesticated ones. :)
Does your amazon have a band on his leg then? I have an amazon too...he's quite the character! Black palms aren't related to the white cockatoos. Entirely different species....Matia is pretty cool! She won't display again when I get the camera out. She's going shy on me!
I am totally trying to catch her displaying again! She won't do it when the camera is on her...so funny!! Almost got her last night! I will post as soon as she decides to entertain me!! :-)
She seems like she's acting out a dramatic scene in a play. You should see if she wants to go into acting lol. Gorgeous bird. I love palm cockatoos :)
Everyone says that these birds are actually better for kids... Not that I don't doubt that and I don't think they are beautiful, because the are. Gorgeous in a scary way XD
Your bird is awesome! I bought a hyacinth last year and it's very very loud! I believe your bird is every bit as beautiful if not more than the hyacinth! People don't understand that captive breeding helps them from beginning extinct. You are truly blessed to have a wonderful pet as this. I know it's well taken care of.enjoy it's love and keep spoiling her, she is beautiful! Wow!
i love it when parrots hold there foot up then they look at it for a second then start biting it and have a big hissy fitt at there foot...it cracks me up when my african grey does it :D
I haven't watched this video in awhile! This was when I first found Matia. I will HAVE to put a new video of her on here! She has filled out and her feathers are beautiful now that she is settled in to her home with me! Thanks everyone that has viewed her!
Regardless of whether Palm Cockatoos are endangered or not, they're safer in people's homes raised by someone who cares than by being left to the x-factors of the wild. Especially if they face habitat destruction.
Beautiful bird I my wife & I have seven parrots including a scarlett & a catalina macaw I started with a cockatoo I still favor them over others. My parents have have 2 african grays & gold capped conure & her parents have five. Or birds are just like kids, they are extremely social.
Thanks! She is amazing! I have a double yellow headed amazon too. He's a bit of a loud mouth, but what can you do? :-) I thought about selling Matia if the right people wanted her for the right amount.....
@lisa248363 I would be interested, I plan on retiring in about 5 years & I intend to devote much more of my time to my birds & I intend to add several more to the flock
@Renegade1953 I would talk more with you, if you are serious. She is special, and I had offers to rehome and refused. I know you have a lot of birds and understand them, so def a plus! :-)
Thanks! She is no where near the volume of the macaw or white cockatoos. I have owned 2 macaws, and they were a great deal louder. She really only yells when the sun is setting and when I come home from work. She wants me to get her out! She was sooo funny this weekend. I had her out and ended up taking a nap. She flew over and proceeded to pull on me until I played with her and was fully awake!! :-)
@lisa248363 Are they endangered in the wild? You know the Goffin species was saved because of pet owners exacty like you. They are considered "instinct" in the wild I read. Yet they are common pets ... thank goodness.
She doesn't look happy, she looks scared and confused, and it looks like she is pulling her feathers out. Why are you playing that music at her? Why did you buy a palm cockatoo?
Hello...this was 2 years ago, right after I bought her. She was in a bird store in a room of about 25 macaws. She was a nervous wreck. Yes, she was pulling her feathers when I got her. The music you hear is the television and she wasn't scared. She still talks this way and dances around. Her feathers are back in and she is beautiful.
@lisa248363 - so long as she is happy, that's the main thing. Would you breed her if you found a male (endangered species and all that, plus my Govt keeps giving the ok to knock down their habitat because the mining giants want the land)? What are Palms like as pets? I could never afford one but I'm curious. Are they cuddly birds? Loud? Need a lot of time? Talkative?
I would breed her, if a male came available. Palms are very good pets....they are extremely gentle and never bite, believe it or not. She would fly away first. I keep her in full flight, since she is so amazing. She isn't really cuddly, but likes to sit on me or the chair I am on and hang out. She isn't as demanding as the white cockatoo or the african grey. She doesn't talk much...mostly at dusk so she can come out and play.
@lisa248363 very cheap and reasonable amount. Though I believe money cant be placed on a living being, but in my country they are much more expensive.
i once attempted to record the 'hello' call and play for my conures so they would learn it but i think its strictly a palm-cockatoo unique vocalization, it sounds like a regular parrot inhaled helium. But you are lucky to have this bird, is she a goliath? how old is she? would you ever consider putting her in a breeding program?
lol! she's having so much fun just talking away to herself! or at the tv? not sure what i hear in the background, maybe she's talking to that, too! what neat sounds. i love parrots, cockatoos especially. you are very luck to have this one, such rare beautiful & unusual birds! i would love to have one but there is no way i could keep one, i just don't have the time to spend with one, which they need. i bet you love her dearly!
@xxRandomnameguyxx they ould do if well socialized and if they meet on neutral territory but not in the same cage, but if unsocialized and on one birds territory you would find introducing two umbrellas cockatoos to fight
Wow, they sound more like cockatiels than cockatoos. How fascinating! What a magnificent bird!

@lisa248363 Amazons are characters. :) He doesn't have a band- my mom's going on what the breeder told her when she bought him.
I didn't know the black palms weren't related- funny how we name stuff, huh?

Haha me too! I love it when parrots get upset with their own body parts. xD Parrots are hilarious!
I have a bird who will grab his wing with his foot and then start throwing a fit because he thinks someone else is touching it. xD

This bird is an endangered Australian species you shouldn't have it.
