  • awesome song!!

  • The best...

  • Bruce Springsteen - Great artist

    Josh Ritter - Great artist

Quit comparing them and just enjoy them.

  • @Evolve10 I'm totally with you

covering songs is one of the biggest forms of flattery

    it's such a beautiful concept

  • what song is this?

  • The River- by the boss- Bruce Springsteen

  • Ritter is great musician but to say at his current age he has more talent than Bruce did when he was 33 is insane.

BORN TO RUN you must have forgot that album, oh ya Bruce was 26 when he put it out!

  • I am SO jealous you have Josh Ritter playing in your apartment.. I'm straight as an arrow, but I've got some serious man love for that dude.

  • lol

  • awesome cover

  • barrymelton,

    Ritter is political,

in the dark was about the war in afghanistan,

thin blue line is political to,

'bringin justice to the enemies not the other way round'

i do agree ritter is more abstract than springsteen and uses a lot more imagery

i think they're live style is pretty similar,

great energy and you can see both really enjoy it and get a big buzz off the crowd.

  • Ritter and Springsteen are actually very different. Josh is far more abstract. Bruce is very black and white. Ritter isn't political. Springsteen is.

Bottom line, at this point in his life, Ritter is more talented that Springsteen was at that age. How this guy isn't a household name is beyond me. People much rather hear overproduced horseshit nowadays.

  • Ritter is very much influenced by Springsteen, this much is obvious in his music and performance. I think his lyricism is defintiely more saturated in imagery. However, Josh Ritter was definitely political on Animals years, 'Thin Blue Flame', a song that he recently introduced has been written in the height of the Bush years. Though he has said that he does not intend to be political in his music. I quite like that he's not gotten too big, I wish it for his talent but under the radar is good too

  • Don't get me wrong, Josh Ritter has made some beautiful songs, (my faves bright eyes, you dont make it easy), and yes he is more literary than Bruce but he hasn't made a whole album which even gets close to Born to Run in my opinion.

And the heart and soul the boss puts into Thunderroad and Badlands is incomparable

  • How can you say that Ritter isn't political? He's more abstract than Springsteen yes but that doesn't mean he isn't political, he's just abstract about his politics. Turn on Thin Blue Flame and pay attention to the lyrics.

  • really great voice! Kinda bruce-esque too!

Might have to check this guy out!

  • You really should check him out. The Animal Years is easily one of my top five albums of all time.

  • VERY nice :)

  • Josh Ritter is the freaking MAN.

  • he did this song at the npr show in dc...chills...absolutely amazing

  • played galway last week, was incredible

  • you should go to a concert... He is amazingly charismatic. He really bonds with the audience and has incredible energy like springsteen.

  • I love the Boss but it's very unfair to say that Ritter's songs pale in comparison. Ritter is without doubt one of the finest songwriters I have ever come across. I can't believe that anyone who has listened to any decent amount of his work would make such a comment. Then again, that's the beauty of music, everyone to their own!

  • I'm more shocked that someone would compare the energy of a Josh Ritter show to a Bruce show. Although attempting to compare their work is pretty outrageous as well. Josh Ritter is good and all, but your comparing royalty to a young singer-songwriter.

  • He's been compared by many people to Springsteen so get ready to be shocked more often, see comments form others above fior example

  • i agree to the person with barrymelton though, springsteen may have been here earlier and longer than josh, but that does not mean that he is better

  • He played Belfasts 'Empire' last night. An excellant performance. Very charasmatic and energetic. Great all round!

He played the river in the encore- magic!

  • Josh Ritter is such a talented musician, i wish he would come to australia

  • Agreed, except jsut eastern canada, likely not enough fan base here though

  • amazing

  • He played this last night at the Tripod Dublin - fantastic!!

  • i know it was amazing!! one of the highlights of the gig, i'd say

  • This has always been my favorite Springsteen song. I was so happy when I heard that Josh was covering it in the tribute. Beautiful.

  • brilliant. he played it when i saw him in portland and it was just as chilling. what a great and majestic human being.

  • I've got a little tear in the corner of my eye now. Seriously.

  • god, that man can do anything. i'd DIE to see him with springsteen.

  • great cover!
