my 2 budgies do that all the time but my canaries and cockatiels havent learnt it from them yet, purity my white budgie has done it while we are out and we could hear her but couldnt find her when we got it, she was blended in with the white stove sitting on the handle so i totally missed her lmao.
It's not so much my two cockatiels I have to worry about. It's my budgie Macy. She figured this out and escaped twice before I fixed her doors with clothes pins.
Little escape artists! Funny how it looked like the first 'tiel was trying to hold the door open for the other one... 0:06 My own 'tiel has a swinging type door that he knows how to work. He uses his body weight to swing it outward... until I put a clip on it. He watches me to see how I open the clip, but he hasn't figured that out yet, lol.
Lol, my parakeet does the same thing after I clean the cage and put food and water, they have been watching me open the cage...and when I'm not home i have to lock it other wise they get stuck under the bed!!
I used to have a cockatiel named Kiki a friend of mine gave her to me. I told her you gave me a smart bird she knows how to open the door and let herself out.
She is now in birdy heaven to this day I still miss her
I had to pad lock my seed dish doors, so my cockatiels wouldn't escape when I wasn't home. I gave a breeding pair to a friend, & I forgot to tell her about how they escape. In the morning she found them on her ceiling fan.
if anyone has birds that open there cagedoor please buy them a tiny little pad lock to snap on to there door its for your birds own safety.... remember that is your baby and you want to keep them safe and secure from any potential harm.
My bird does the exact same thing, so we have to lock the cage doors shut. I remember one day me and my family got home and found him out of his cage.. Our mind was blown. XD We didn't know how he got out at first until we realized he learned how to open the doors himself..
@rvhawkeye I'm sorry, but I laughed so hard when I read your comment. My Cockatiel was as dumb as a brick, she always tried to tear my finger to pieces, she squaked without stopping, even though she had all the food, water, space, toys, and attention she needed, and she would randomly spasm out and fly in circles around the room.
AWESOME!!! I have a parakeet that does something similar - his old cage had 3 doors, 2 for food and water troughs and he would just go up to open, lift it up to jam it and then jump right out
lol my old cockatiel, ron, used to be able to do that. he would sometimes play with the door and let it go up and down but one day when i had the cage outside i saw he was on outside of the cage and on top of the it. i was able to put him in back and put some pegs on the door in case he did it again ^-^
This is why I often clip Doug's slider doors shut...because my parakeets learned to open them, and I know cockatiels are bright little birdies, being that a few times watching me open the door, he'll be able to get out.
@ 0:13 it says " Yeah, Frickin' Freedom" then "What ? that's it !!" after that "Hey you stop looking at me with this thing and putt me back in my cage"
I might have to get a combo lock for my cockatiel's cage, I have one that has a gate lock thingie on it but everytime I come home from work I find my birds trying to get at the cracker box
