this guy is a little full of himself. Not all Chinese girls are like that. More and more girls are just dating to date, at least in Hunan. In general, though, Chinese girls (and guys) take dating more seriously than Westeners. But it's hard to make generalizations about an entire culture. Everbody is different and there are a lot of factors involved, like region, upbringing, individual personality.

I will say most Chinese girls will say this guy is not responsible.

in the word "bi jiao", jiao has tone 4 in standard Mandarin, but tone 3 in Beijing dialect. When I lived in Beijing, I used tone 3 as well, because I wanted to sound local.

Actually... it's pinyin (no space)... if you want to be "technical" about it yaokobe. I assume you are of mandarin-speaking decent... Its people like you who almost discouraged me from getting my Ph.D in Mandarin, Korean and Japanese. Everyone is SO critical of people who want to learn the language. You don't have to be mean to people to have a desire to learn the language. There is no ONE way to spell Chinese characters that have been romanized. You shouldn't be so rude to people. Ugh!

Actually, yaokobe is right for saying what he did say. Everyone has "slight discrepancies" when they speak. No one can pronounce every word in a certain language correctly, or with the correct tone.

I studied Mandarin for years and not to sound conceited or stuck up I know that pinyin is spelled without a space. With the romanization of Chinese you have to have "pinyin" spelled together or it disrupts the tonality that it's intended for in Mandarin. Like I said, I have doctoral degrees in Mandarin, Korean, and Japanese. :) Yaokobe was being not only rude to Lanarei but downright ill-informed. That being said, Yakobe was right to correct his spelling with "bi jiao".
