Are you in simple mode? If not than enter into expert mode and make sure you have the same IPSW bundle as you phone. for example, if you have 4.2.1 iPhone software, and 4.2 Pwnage Tool software, than you have to download a 4.2.1 IPSW, which is possible from a variety of different websites. If you already know this well then, don't give a damn about me. Just trying to help.

ok guys this is for mac only. Pwnage tool only works for mac. to jailbreak 4.0 it will only work if you used pwnage tool for fw 3.1.2 and not the spirit jailbreak. Spirit will make it not work. so its kinda not available for everyone

@Hilo95 unfortunatly no, but also for all of you that are in the predicament where you have a iphone other then the iphone 4 and your running on ios4 your in luck. the thing is, is that the 3gs is still a MB model you have to downgrade your firmware first to 3.1.2 and jailbreak it on a tethered jailbreak such as snowbreeze 3.1.2 or blackra1n. once done with that upgrade your firmware to ios4 make sure you back up and then youll be fine. you could use redsnow to jailbreak your iphone from there.
