Would have been a perfect game if the voices didn't suck and the story was less predictable/stupid. The battle system was perfect but they screwed up the rest of the freakin game.
my only complaint is the horrible voice-acting (in English, completely played through the game with Japanese voices) and a less predictable story, also some more planets to explore :D
9.0/10 in my book, though if you have never played a J-RPG guys, then you rent it, then buy it if your hooked :)

@Damnedsoul53 Play some more. It's great once you get your 6th character (about 10 hours in.) It's okay thought after you get Faize and Lymle (3 hours in)
final fantasy sucks compared to this - this game gives u so much freedom and has a nice selection of characters - story may not be all that but who cares ?

I started a save on this game a few days back, there's not much wrong with it in my opinion. Nice big neat environments to explore. The characters seem a bit generic for the most part and the dialogue can be kinda cheesy. I'd give it an 8.6 personally.

I wanna get the star ocean the last hope international. My first question is are there any differences between the two and also does the star ocean the last hope international have trophies? Not like the battle trophies you mentioned but like ps3 bronze, silver, gold and platinum trophies.
I have the PS3 version, and I am not disapointment with it, graphiclly it could be a bit more sharp, but then graphics don't really make the gameplay, they are great though. The battle system is evolved to be faster than the TTEOT (SO3) with added effects and just as fun. Hope they do more. The battle tune varies depending on were you are which is a nice change. The ps3 extras with menu style/audio is a nice bonus. Hope Resonace of Fate has the Tri-Aces icons, Gabriel/Etheral queen.
Game is now on PS3.. just bought it today and it's a million times improved, thanks to blu-ray and 360 beta version. Extra characters, 8 languages, japanese voice option, anime characters and menu optional, less jaggies , higher resolution. I am loving it!
@Nodieus27 Let's not go overboard, it's better but still has some problems. It's storyline for the most part is still only decent at best. The combat is still fun though shallow in the end.
The Japanese voices and extra characters are indeed an improvement but really graphics look worse in some ways. However replaying it with Japanese voices is nice.

This game is ass from every standpoint possible, the character models are ugly poreclein dolls, the environments look messy, the battle system is a shallow easily broken buttonmasher, the music is annoying, the voice acting bars on Brave Fencer Musashi levels of acting, and has the worst writing and characters (especially the angsting teenage cunt of a lead) of any game this gen.
i had high hopes for this game. the cutscenes looked good, and i was really excited to play another star ocean game considering how good some of the previous titles have been.

I just finished disk 1 and I'm quite into the game the only thing I can't stand is the cutscenes. Some of them are like, 20 minutes long and they repeat every plot point over and over again in ridiculously boring dialouge. But other than that, it is quite worth the money, great review :D

Fair review. I have this game and the battle system is what makes this game shine. The rest is well....pretty standard JRPG stuff. Nothing really stands out or does anything you haven't seen a hundred times before. The cut scenes can be a pain. You never know when you're going to dive into a 15-20+ minute cut scene which can be a hassel if you're wanting to save your game and go out. Overall though if you're interested I would pick it up if you can get it for a decent price.

Im 40+ hours into the game and theres 1 dungeons sum1 pre-bosses and the last boss left + cutscenes, so I guess the game is around 50-60+ hours and I know I havent finished the game, but I can say its absolutely mindblowing=] the story might not be so strong, but the gameplay and graphics catch up 2 that, I reccomend you go buy this gaame, was worth my 60 buckz :P
I ran through FFX without completing spheregrids, sidequests, and all of the other non-story elements and it still took me about 90 hours. So maybe not 150, but definitely ~120.

Xbox 360 and PS3 are good systems with ups and downs. the Xbox has good online capabilities, but RROD brings it down. the PS3 is pretty advanced, but the updates and download/installalation times are too long, plus the online isn't very exciting. just to throw this out mics don't come with the PS3. the only PS3 games i would want are LBP and KZ2. multiplatforms for Xbox. to close my comment this video and others like these are about GAMES, not console disputes.

The 360 might be poorly designed back in the day which and it might still cause problems but atleast Microsoft has done the best it can to overcome the problem. PROD has a 10 year waranty and since most people arent planning on using their 360 forever that is more then enough. When I got PROD I was sort fo happy since a new console isnt so bad. Many smart consumers realise this now resulting in the succes the 360 is currently having.
You just don't get it do you? What if I would like to play this game 15-20 years down the line? I can't because there won't be any properly functioning consoles, and I doubt M$ will be supporting it at that point. I still play SMB3 on our NES, I can't expect that from an Xbox 360 in 20 years.
Most of the people that bought it probably never really were gamers before that, so they aren't used to the quality that other companies offer.

You forgot about the bonus board, but it was a fantastic review nonetheless. I also agree 100% with pretty much everything you said expect the story might be a tad bit too low. I'd give it a 7.5-8.0
You totally forgot about the original and classic Star Ocean for SNES, Star Ocean 1. However since it never came to the US that can be forgiven. Good review otherwise.
Awsome game, but this has without a doubt some of the most cliche characters ever, not that I mind because I like anime, but for anyone else it may be too much for them. Battle system is also fun, if a little unbalanced at times.

Correction Whity, It started on the Super Nintendo, from the SNES to Playstation to the Xbox 360. Just letting you know how old is Star Ocean was. No biggie ^_^ 5/5 Star.
There were many SNES games that never made it here. Dragon Quest was one of them so was the sequel to Secret of Mana. We didn't get the third game we got Secret of Evermore. Hell today it still continues look at the Wii. They have a lot of hardcore games out, only in Japan. Like Fatal Frame 4 we finally got Tenchu. But there are way to many games on the Wii alone. And that's not even adding the PS3 and 360 games. There are still games that don't come out here. :(

I ran through FFX without completing spheregrids, sidequests, and all of the other non-story elements and it still took me about 90 hours. So maybe not 150, but definitely ~120.

Pretty fair review. I just bought the game sometime last week and wish I would have seen your review, not saying I didnt like it I love it Im about 18-20 hours in it would have just made it safer to buy. I took a risk in buying it cause I didnt know anyone who played it first and I dont trust brand name" reviewers aka ign, game informer, blah blah look forward to more of your stuff.

to all fanboys, shut the hell up. Xbox 360 and PS3 are good systems with ups and downs. the Xbox has good online capabilities, but RROD brings it down. the PS3 is pretty advanced, but the updates and download/installalation times are too long, plus the online isn't very exciting. just to throw this out mics don't come with the PS3. the only PS3 games i would want are LBP and KZ2. multiplatforms for Xbox. to close my comment this video and others like these are about GAMES, not console disputes.

I'm not a fanboy, that term is tossed around quite loosely. I have a Wii, PS3, DS, and PSP, as well as a SNES, NES, Dreamcast, Saturn, N64, Gamecube, PS2, and PC.
I'm a huge fan of console gaming, and I'm also a smart consumer; if I know a product is notoriously faulty I don't buy it. Simple as that.
Just because I know the Xbox 360 is poorly made doesn't mean I'm a fanboy. Just a smart consumer.

The 360 might be poorly designed back in the day which and it might still cause problems but atleast Microsoft has done the best it can to overcome the problem. PROD has a 10 year waranty and since most people arent planning on using their 360 forever that is more then enough. When I got PROD I was sort fo happy since a new console isnt so bad. Many smart consumers realise this now resulting in the succes the 360 is currently having.

You just don't get it do you? What if I would like to play this game 15-20 years down the line? I can't because there won't be any properly functioning consoles, and I doubt M$ will be supporting it at that point. I still play SMB3 on our NES, I can't expect that from an Xbox 360 in 20 years.
Most of the people that bought it probably never really were gamers before that, so they aren't used to the quality that other companies offer.

And it wasn't poorly designed "back in the day" it still IS poorly designed; my sister got her Xbox 360 in January, and it crapped out on her late February. They got it repaired and everything, but I convinced her to sell it. :3

Your must be a true gamer, most people wouldn't keep all their consoles for decades. And it was poor design back in the day, and they are still dealing with the consequences of that. Doesn't mean the 360 isnt a great deal, a cheap console with the best games of this generation and a 10 year waranty. Best games of this generation? As if, the Xbox 360 barely has any ACTUAL exclusives, most games also have a PC or PS3 port.
And if you haven't noticed, PS3 games like Killzone 2, Little Big Planet, and MGS4 (10/10) are better than anything on the Xbox 360. Even the Wii and DS have a wider selection of awesome exclusives.
And no, I convinced her to sell it for a PS3 just so she could play with me. I figured it was best to ask her in a moment of weakness.

Come on, how can you make someone believe your not fanboy when you say thigns like KZ2, LBP, and MGS4 (10/10) are better than anything on the Xbox 360'' Either your extreemly lucky that you really dont care for anything on the 360 or your mind things like a fanboy and automaticly dislikes/dont care for anything exclusive for the 360. Of the games you mentioned only KZ2 is something I would care for, I dont mind admitting that but for me the 360 offers more. Otherwise I would have a PS3.

I didn't say that the exclusives for the 360 were bad, by all means no. I'm just saying that they aren't as good, and you can ask anyone that PS3 games are of higher quality and content.
And as I said before, almost anything on the 360 you can get for PC, and everyone has a PC, simple as that. Plus, the 360 is more expensive in the long run. Why pay more?

A fanboy is often discribed as someone who favours some thing over another for no reason other then that he considers himself part of that 'side'. I think your a 'oldschool' fanboy, not a fan of the xbox possibly because it is new. I tried to show you that some people actually have a fantastic time with the 360 and that your not giving it a fair change. But I see your beyond reason with comment such as 'everyone has a PC' so I won't waste more time with this.

Dude Star Ocean started on the SNES... not PS1.
I'll pick it up soon. Already have LO, TOV, and Eternal Sonata (ET had some pretty bad dialogue in certain parts...) Battle system basically is the game's saving grace.
Lol the one called Edge is supposed to be 20-something yet he sounds and looks 13. Square Enix should of included japanese dubs.

Awsome game, but this has without a doubt some of the most cliche characters ever, not that I mind because I like anime, but for anyone else it may be too much for them. Battle system is also fun, if a little unbalanced at times.

There were many SNES games that never made it here. Dragon Quest was one of them so was the sequel to Secret of Mana. We didn't get the third game we got Secret of Evermore. Hell today it still continues look at the Wii. They have a lot of hardcore games out, only in Japan. Like Fatal Frame 4 we finally got Tenchu. But there are way to many games on the Wii alone. And that's not even adding the PS3 and 360 games. There are still games that don't come out here. :(
