BTW 2 of my friends started this band. I went to the opening show at 4th and Virginia dance studio . They played with Nirvana (before Bleach was released). I'm sorry if I sound elitist. Im not, just hate people acting like "grunge experts".
God these music experts bug me when they talk about my own scene. "Grunge" is a joke word, folks. Was invented by Dave duet of cat butt. Anyways. Love battery were a psychedelia band meets punk. 1989. Many different incarnations. Ron was in a band called Room 9 that used to play 1983. Great stuff. There was no "movement" BTW. It was all just considered punk. Lol STFU.
I love this band but i'm form argentina and it gets very hard to me to get the lyrics....if somebody could give me the lyrics form highway of souls i'd really appreciate that...thanks a lot
plus whats wrong with bands going big? they need to make a living and put food ect on the table to.plus you can go big without changing your sound for someone else, just be prepared to take on the record company
yeah true that nyckelwound :i think grunge is what you make of it: like there a little bit right when they say that grunge is dirty.but what all grunge bands have in common is they have a large range of music influences, like the melvins started playing jimmy Hendrix songs, sonic youth covered some mud honey songs and nirvana covered led zeppelin songs. all grunge bands are gonna be different from the next and thats great
some of you have said youre resentful about grunge becoming comercial. why? the greatest bands from that era dont deserve comercial popularity and fame? look, truth is any genre is going to have its doucher ripoffs, like everyone in the post grunge alternative genre, but that doesnt mean making the good bands famous and "comercial" is bad. indie is cool, it adds cred. but they need money to put food on the table too. and a huge table for their huge house. lol.
I think that grunge doesnt define the music itself, it defines the movement that is behind the bands that were formed in the timeline between 86 and 96 . But one thing is for sure, the spirit of all the bands that are called grunge, follows, in my opinion, the same line. That doesnt make the music sound all the same. Thats why we can call grunge to bands like alice in chains, sprinklker and tad, but we can also call love battery, hazel and truly grunge. it´s the spirit that counts :)
I agree - grunge was a name for Seattle alternative. But the name "grunge" is very close in association with the commercialization of the genre which I'm very resentful about. Have fun trying to use grunge in the correct context with 95% of people who know about grunge....I've given up. "Northwest Alt.", Seattle Sound", "Pacific Alt.", or even just "Alternative rock". That's what I use now.
I ignored most of the crap though, which means I'm ok with using "Grunge" as a reference word for the late 80's/90's Seattle Alternative bands. Marketing only works if you pay attention to it imo.
Grunge will come back some day, or at least some kids inspired by it and sound similar to it and one of those famous little mother fuckers is gunna thank ron nine for inspiring him. i love love battery
grunge is just a label man. they bounded a buncha random bands together. but I love the bands, it's just that grunge was like a nickname fopr alternative music. try comparing the screaming trees to alice in chains. both grunge but totally different
The Grunge 'label' shouldn't be thought of as a way to define the sound but rather what each band stood for. Though each sound was different, they all stood for independence in a world overtaken by commercialism.
I saw these guys in Seattle in '92 with Hammerbox and the singer came out with a cardigan on and his blonde hair in his face like Kurt. It was hilarious!
Good pit that night, too. I got a black eye. Good times!

This comment has received too many negative votes show
or....we can just say that there was/is no spirit of grunge because there was never any grunge in the first place. grunge = marketing term
this is is just alternative rock from Seattle.
kyotokombat 2 years ago
grunge is just a name for a movement IMO. It was just a way to try and make it a comercial thing. Eitherway we can all agree that it kicks ass

Mudhoney coined the term Grunge, not the music industry.
Sshelly34213 2 years ago 4
@Sshelly34213 no, mark arm did when he was in mr. epp and the calculations. not in mudhoney.
losingmyreligion6767 10 months ago
it was used as a market term, but it was made famous by a man who truly embodies grunge, Mark Arm of mudhoney.
It's a movement that became a marketed, not just a get rich quick scheme made by some bands.

I love Love Battery, but i won't call their music grunge. Some songs are rock, my favourites shoegaze .. but grunge ?

They were the anti-thesis to commercial excess and the idea that music be a vehicle for entertainment instead of artistic expression.
