  • true blood...

  • Songs in the Key of X.

  • x files...

  • Sounds like an alternate version/outtake. Where did this gem come from?

  • if Tom Waits had been born black lol

  • @Squibfire more like tom waits is screamin jay hawkins as a white guy. I was just about to listen to "Singapore" actually, but then I landed on this. Great artists, the two of them. RIP to Hawkins. I wonder what's going on with his 75 alleged children.

  • @gpenn2 i love Singapore, one of my favorite Waits songs and i have no idea lol

  • Fuck yeah True Blood! Season 2 Episode 11!!

  • @theoldrevolution

    (Y) X-files.

    Season 2,Episode 20.

    Title:Humbug

  • Now I know why Dave Vanian chose to cover this song. So sick!

  • I agree with u completely, jannyrcobs!

  • Without Screamin' Jay, no John Fogerty, no Jim Morrison, and certainly no Nick Cave!

  • @jannyrcobs nick cave wasn't wholly influenced by this great man, he could easily be without him, his stuff(especially his newest) is different and with its own personality

  • I prefer Kidd Thomas ...Rockin' this joint tonight.

  • HAHAHA

  • is not a singer ,is a clown!!!

  • i was fortunate to see Screamin' Jay twice in the late '80s, great shows. I waited an hour for his autograph... an imposing figure of a man... not to be messed with... period.

  • hes voice like a robot ! this song good for the blacks when they have shower! this is scary!

  • i sang this in the shower it was fun! :D

  • it is very godd (H) ;)

  • I think David Johansen comes the closest to capturing the spirit and style of Screamin' Jay.

  • if you like screamin jay,tom waits, captain beefheart and other crazy blues/roots stuff you may want to check my channel! got a brand new video for you!!cheerz

  • he noise he makes i laugh so hard and my bro looks at me weird

  • I see a lot of people mentioning true blood, but I first saw this featured on the X-files Season 3 Episode Humbug.

  • @Ihateworking1 I also know this song from The X-Files. I used to own the "Songs in the Key of X" soundtrack disc

  • @Tenucha i bought that cd when it first came up.. i was 9..i still listened to it from time to time.. besides it introduced me to some great bands

  • @Ihateworking1 great episode, respect!

  • @Ihateworking1

so did i...it was perfectly placed in that episode

  • @Ihateworking1 Season 2, you mean. :)

  • @Noromongrel yes... the sad part is I actually own the Series on DVD =)

  • @Ihateworking1 Yes!! That's exactly where I heard it first ! I was looking for the whole thing for a lot of time :)

  • @Ihateworking1 Thats how I know it ;)

  • @Ihateworking1 I heard it first when watching an episode of "Heroes".

  • @Ihateworking1 ME TOO!!!!

  • @Ihateworking1 *season 2

  • @shmonnorshmusie Thanks for taking the time to point out my mistake.

  • the specifics of psychobilly & the like is completely irrelevant. if you like it , you like it. people think they're so superior now with all these subcategories of music. it's music, just listen & shut up.

    SCREAMIN JAY HAWKINS ^o^

  • Classic! Love this one...

  • i love true blood

  • wharrgarbl!

  • This is my RINGTONE!!! SOMETIMES I TAKE MY TIME TO PICK UP WHEN SOMEONE CALLS SO I CAN LISTEN A BIT MORE OF THIS FABULOUS SONG, I AM IN LOVE WITH IT, THE BEGINING PUTS ME IN THE FRENZY TO SEARCH FOR MY PHONE JAJAJA

  • @Lunaticmoonie This is my ringtone too! :D

  • This song is Awesome! Screaming Jay Rules! :)

  • Love this song thanks to X files Humbug episode.

  • круто!

  • Its like he walked off the cartoon page and came to life! ;-)

  • I'd say this man is the founder/father of psychobilly music, but that'd be just stating the obvious! Great musician, Jay!

  • @DevinDCEG Not really. Screaming Jay never really made rockabilly, and psychobilly is basically just sped up rockabilly mixed with punk. The Cramps were the first band to ever play rockabilly in a punk sort of style so therefore I would say they invented it, plus they had the horror elements which most psycho bands have now. I personally dislike Psycho though, I think it is too fast and a bit cheesy with the horror stuff. I much prefer traditional rockabilly. It was just the sexist music ever.

  • @SomaLFM I agree with the part about how Rockabilly is a far better music genre than Psychobilly. By far. But the Cramps have stated several times that their music influence is Screamin' Jay Hawkins, furthermore they themselves have flat-out denied their own music style as being "psychobilly". Screamin' Jay didn't invent rockabilly, but he sured laid the foundation for the music we now call psychobilly. He just didn't bother to give it a particular name.

  • @SomaLFM

    Absolute rubbish.

there is as much rockabilly that is a fast as anything Psychobilly ever put out, and there is loads of Psycho stuff that has a slower tempo. I was at the start of the Psycho scene and can advise the Cramps were playing garage not Psychobilly, however I agree they probably had an influence on bands later on. the meteors were influenced by Rockabilly, David Bowie and Mark Bowlan to name a few, and the Punk thing was the spirit and wildness that Rockabilly had lost.

  • @motorvating I agree Cramps are Garage and Meteors are psychobilly. The meteors have some ridiculously slow songs which when they play live is sped up. Most psyhcobilly today has more to do with horror punk and punk then rockabilly. A lot of bands Stray cats, Frenzy/Torment, skitzo, and so on but! I came here to listen to music not debate.

  • @Enterthedeath

Not keen on the Psycho stuff coming out of the states because it sounds more punk then Rockabilly to me, however the new Rockabilly stuff on the US label Wild Records is world class.

  • @motorvating I would agree but. I am very into it because I've been into punk for a very long time. However it's not just the US most newer psychoiblly are more punkabilly it's just the 2nd generation of psychobilly is more into punk. It doesn't help when bands like horror pop are labeled by people as psychobilly. Horror pops are not bad just not psychobilly. The new European and US psychobilly bands are kinda sounding like a modern day misfits generally not a fan that trend.

  • @SomaLFM I Screaming Jay was more shock rock of the 50's,not all rock n roll was rockabilly. The Cramps were influenced by them. They would wear his t-shirts at some of the Cramp show I have been to.

  • FRENZY!

  • another deadly awesome discovery!!!..its like rockabilly blues..sweeett

  • would totally hang with this cat if I went back in time.

  • ham in a frenzeh habalabalabalabalabalab

  • Wiki-quote: Hawkins died on February 12, 2000 after surgery to treat an aneurysm.[17] He left behind many children by many women; an estimated 55 at the time of his death, and upon investigation, that number "soon became perhaps 75 offspring".

Now thats what I call Frenzy!!

  • This is quintessential psychobilly, tell the posers nowadays. GRANDE SCREAMIN' JAY!

  • @histatimaniples

Danny Elfman wrote all the songs for Nightmare Before Christmas, including Oogie's, and he's always had a thing for hot jazz; specifically Cab Calloway, although I can definitely see where you're coming from. If you haven't seen it, check out the film The Forbidden Zone for more of Danny doing Cab.

    bunch a' biters. lol

  • Thanks for posting! I wondered who did this song during the ending credits of HBO's Trueblood last night! They always pick excellent music. I thought it might be Tom Waits! : )

  • and also one of the main themes of the film "Stranger than Paradise" directed by the fantastic Jim Jarmusch. i can only recommend watching it.

  • @bettablue1 That is so funny cause I had a feeling it was Tom Waits too, though I doubt he would be as dramatic and vocally animated at Screamin' Jay Hawkins.

  • Comment removed
