@Squibfire more like tom waits is screamin jay hawkins as a white guy. I was just about to listen to "Singapore" actually, but then I landed on this. Great artists, the two of them. RIP to Hawkins. I wonder what's going on with his 75 alleged children.

the specifics of psychobilly & the like is completely irrelevant. if you like it , you like it. people think they're so superior now with all these subcategories of music. it's music, just listen & shut up.
This is my RINGTONE!!! SOMETIMES I TAKE MY TIME TO PICK UP WHEN SOMEONE CALLS SO I CAN LISTEN A BIT MORE OF THIS FABULOUS SONG, I AM IN LOVE WITH IT, THE BEGINING PUTS ME IN THE FRENZY TO SEARCH FOR MY PHONE JAJAJA
@DevinDCEG Not really. Screaming Jay never really made rockabilly, and psychobilly is basically just sped up rockabilly mixed with punk. The Cramps were the first band to ever play rockabilly in a punk sort of style so therefore I would say they invented it, plus they had the horror elements which most psycho bands have now. I personally dislike Psycho though, I think it is too fast and a bit cheesy with the horror stuff. I much prefer traditional rockabilly. It was just the sexist music ever.
@SomaLFM I agree with the part about how Rockabilly is a far better music genre than Psychobilly. By far. But the Cramps have stated several times that their music influence is Screamin' Jay Hawkins, furthermore they themselves have flat-out denied their own music style as being "psychobilly". Screamin' Jay didn't invent rockabilly, but he sured laid the foundation for the music we now call psychobilly. He just didn't bother to give it a particular name.
there is as much rockabilly that is a fast as anything Psychobilly ever put out, and there is loads of Psycho stuff that has a slower tempo. I was at the start of the Psycho scene and can advise the Cramps were playing garage not Psychobilly, however I agree they probably had an influence on bands later on. the meteors were influenced by Rockabilly, David Bowie and Mark Bowlan to name a few, and the Punk thing was the spirit and wildness that Rockabilly had lost.
@motorvating I agree Cramps are Garage and Meteors are psychobilly. The meteors have some ridiculously slow songs which when they play live is sped up. Most psyhcobilly today has more to do with horror punk and punk then rockabilly. A lot of bands Stray cats, Frenzy/Torment, skitzo, and so on but! I came here to listen to music not debate.
Not keen on the Psycho stuff coming out of the states because it sounds more punk then Rockabilly to me, however the new Rockabilly stuff on the US label Wild Records is world class.
@motorvating I would agree but. I am very into it because I've been into punk for a very long time. However it's not just the US most newer psychoiblly are more punkabilly it's just the 2nd generation of psychobilly is more into punk. It doesn't help when bands like horror pop are labeled by people as psychobilly. Horror pops are not bad just not psychobilly. The new European and US psychobilly bands are kinda sounding like a modern day misfits generally not a fan that trend.
@SomaLFM I Screaming Jay was more shock rock of the 50's,not all rock n roll was rockabilly. The Cramps were influenced by them. They would wear his t-shirts at some of the Cramp show I have been to.
Wiki-quote: Hawkins died on February 12, 2000 after surgery to treat an aneurysm.[17] He left behind many children by many women; an estimated 55 at the time of his death, and upon investigation, that number "soon became perhaps 75 offspring".
Danny Elfman wrote all the songs for Nightmare Before Christmas, including Oogie's, and he's always had a thing for hot jazz; specifically Cab Calloway, although I can definitely see where you're coming from. If you haven't seen it, check out the film The Forbidden Zone for more of Danny doing Cab.
Used to have this on an album, nothing like Screamin Jay..after a J, on vinyl, First time I sat down and listened to one of his albums all the way through, Blew My Mind, I was readind the surrealst manifestos, and grabbing up all the Captain Beefheart I could get.....wish I knew what happened to that record, I think my ex got it, but I kept the Beefheart Vinyl!
