  • can you please tell me how to install beryl! thx

  • how can i install beryl , and use all those effects please make a tutorial ,

    thank you

  • very sleek interface, but I imagine that some of the effects (like the ripple) could become a bit annoying after awhile. Geeks will have a futuristic interface for at least 4 years before everyone else, BILL GATES BEWARE

  • im really confused on how to install this...

i've got the latest ubuntu out on the ubuntu website

but reading things on the web make this sound harder and harder all the time

can anyone make a video of how to install?

  • u need a cd burner that will burn ISO's to a disc. Which is what the ubuntu file is. On the ubuntu website there is a how to that has a link to a good piece of software that will allow you to do it.

Then once you have burned as an ISO like in the tutorial, then you put the disc in the computer tray while you're running windows, and it will give you options. One of those will be to restart the computer and load Ubuntu.

The other way (you might hav to do) is to choose your CD drive for boot

  • how'd u install beryl on ubuntu? mine didn't work, something in the configuration didn't make sense. intel 9500 256mb, 1 gb ram, centrino. please help!

  • Gasp, Smallville!

As much as I'd love to get beryl, I doubt my computer would be able to support it. It would probably melt.

  • Ubuntu with beryl takes like... half of what Vista needs to run. No melting...

  • vista's a joke, go to theregister . co . uk and type "vista's long goodbye"

  • Just curious, what are the specs of your PC? Very cool stuff.

  • Atlhon x64 3000+ 1giga ram, gforce 6600 pci express.

  • I equate this to adding ring tones to your cell phone. The phone sounds cool when someone calls but the call drops every 2 minutes because the service sucks. I've been using Linux since 1994 and it's come a long way, but it's lack of quality graphical development tools, crappy documentation and confusing installation scripts still keep developers from writing good software.

  • so what is this? is it a mod for a current OS(mac/windows) or is it a completely different OS of its own? because it seems a lot like OS X with some funky and cool visual effects.

  • As it says, it's UBUNTU Linux. Totally free OS, and that shows a desktop amanager that will be available in the next release.

  • the "ripple effect" will roll out once you move a window, that's quite annoying.

  • indeed, like the guy above said tho all effects are configurable (and can be en- or disabled)

  • thankmyself for unconvincing me to switch to ubuntu. windows all the way! ill just save up for vista. love it.

  • This is beryl with ubuntu... It is just magical effects that you aren't going to have with a default ubuntu install. Heh, have fun with vista, you poor bastard.

  • JEEZ. and i will bitch. trust me. and when your using your underused unknown ubuntu [for a good reason], remember, ill be enjoying vista.

  • Have fun with your ignorance.

  • sucker

  • you foolish fool,,,

i heard i good quote today.....

"a computer without windows is like a dog without bricks tied to its head"

  • that makes NO since...

  • Note that pretty much *every single little detail* about how Beryl functions is configurable through the graphical manager. This guy had a lot of things set REAL slow for whatever reason - makes it look sluggish but you can make it much faster.

  • Seems cool for a select audience, Everything is slightly a bit to bouncy and rolly polly for me.
