  • *A Hot! Sexy! Female Shape Shifter could fulfill All of My Lustful Fantasies!(lol!)

  • Nice cellphone

  • Maya has got to be one of the hottest babes in the realm of Sci-Fi. Can you imagine having a girl friend like her. She is already a very sexy woman and she can change her form into... another sexy woman!

  • Hologram

  • I loved Maya as a kid. Rewatching, I still like the character but I also miss VICTOR. Did he ever come back?

  • @jennyinthepark

In the original script for the season 2 opening episode ("Metamorph") it was reported that Professor Victor Bergman had died from a faulty spacesuit.

  • I love all of the electronic sound effects of Space: 1999! Much better than the sound effect used on Star Trek. I am a big fan of the second series as I did not like the first season. This show along with all the electronic computer and sound effects got me so interested in electronics and synthesizers.

  • I always loved the sound effect when Maya transformed; it was my favourite part of the show.

  • This was my fave programme as a kid...

  • Wow did you see her communication device she was using right before she changed from the ugly chick with beast-brows into the hot blonde? See cause in the future we will all have portable telephones the size of small lunch boxes. Won't progress be great? Oh yeah....sarcasm aside.....ugly chick with Werewolf-brows, into saucy blond thing, really IS something to look forward to! When will they invent that? I see it happen now, with girls I pick up from the bar..but its always the other way around

  • I liked the episodes with maya

  • maya was so cool hehe

  • I was soooooooo darn proud of Maya since it was the first time I heard another with my name at that time. and boy o boy, I was as prud as hell that it was such a beautiful woman as Maya!

  • Why can't she change into something that will get the moon back to earth?

  • I wanted to be her so bad when I was a little young boy.

  • damm, even after all of these years, Maya still gives me wood.

  • maya was the only thing i remember about this. i was born in 1972. she may have been in the run for my first crush, alomg with princess from g force.

  • Martha Nairn

  • I don't know. Something about chicks with sideburns makes me all hot!

  • Funny how shape shifters always change outfits too. Must save on clothing costs. LOL

  • Yes, that's one (little) detail that always annoys me. Would be that much better if they had to copy/acquire the clothing some other way.

  • @disguizer

It's easy to explain. She doesn't actually wear clothing. Her skin looks like whatever clothing is required at the time, if any. She's actually nude. That's why she can transform to look like animals or other people without worrying about what happens to her clothes.

  • @gamewizard That makes sense. Fortunate that Maya had a clipboard handy to carry into the laboratory or the guard might have been suspicious ;-)

  • @disguizer Hide it in your hair, you never know when a clipboard can come in handy

  • @disguizer Well, I think you can blame tv censorship standards for THAT.

  • @fortknoxguy nah dude, they just knit their own

  • It seems ironic to me that all the comments on this thread are about Catherine Schell--and I agree, she was stunningly beautiful and might still be--when most of the scene was carried by another (also quite lovely) actress who played the woman whom Maya was doppleganging--and the part of the real Cranston as well. Anybody know what HER name is?

  • In Fred Freiberger's original written concept, Maya was to have been played by a black actress.

Catherine Schell is so stunningly beautiful that I could easily overlook the alien eyebrows and sideburns.

  • I thought it was a staple gun... With with a kill setting...

  • I always loved this show, but the laser guns always seemed to remind me of staple guns.

  • The stable laser gun's shape was not that bad. What was bad about it was that it shot THE SLOWEST beam of laser in any science fiction series.

  • I liked Maya a lot and my little girl always wants me to show my DVDs of 1999 so she can see the lady who turns into animals! A real imagination-capturing character!

    Ade

  • I always thought this show had interesting hand lasers, really different.

  • who is the girl she transformed into?

  • I remember this show. I don't remember it

well because I was only 3 when I watched it but what I remember is that even though I was really young I had a crush on the blond woman. The shape shifting woman scared me.

  • wow...look at her eyes and cheekbones..stunning.

  • I had the biggest crush on her, she was cool.....

  • She was great. Martin Landau always thought the Trek premise was unrealistic. Irony is , that he and Spock (Leonard Nimoy) co-starred on Mission Impossible.

  • oooooooooooh that blonde was to die for.

  • There's only one thing I really could'nt stand about Space 1999.... the laser pistol they used must have shot the slowest laser beam in the entire history of Sci-Fi.

  • Maya was a great character but the stories from season 1 were a lot better.

  • YOU LOT ARE NERDS

  • sod the reflecter units how about a jump! jeez, top blonde, top notch milf now.. hey ho...

  • Look at the sideburns...Elvis ain't got nothing on this girl.

  • Given the lack of technology at the time, never mind the lack of budget season 2 had, it conveys Maya's shapeshifting ability reasonably well.

  • bloody hell...I was so in love with Maya...i must have been 6 or 7!

  • Catherine Schell was HOTT!! Unfortunately, when this show was on I was a little kid and didn't have much capacity for thinking dirty stuff!! But wait minute...that was probably a good thing.

  • i love to have that power...

  • Good choice of crew member, Maya

  • Bring back Space 1999!!! If Star Trek could do it then Space 1999 can too. Or do a remake of it for a whole new generation,....but keep the shape shifting character of MYA. She was what made the show great during Season 2.

  • I'd love it too, but what would we call it? 2099 maybe? 1999 is now the past.

  • Wow! Maya changed into a gorgeous blond, shame she didn't stay that way...

  • Without all the sideburns and warty eyebrows, Catherine Schell is very beautiful.

But, Barbara Bain who played Dr. Helena Russell had in her contract that if they added a female star with a large script.. she had to have alien makeup! True!

    Pretty vain and petty, huh?

  • This clip brings back so many fond memories. Space 1999 was definitely ahead of the other shlocky shows of its time. Maya's character was all class and imagination. And the blonde in this clip is HOT! :)

  • megusta

  • the book says that it was 9/11/99 when the moon broke away from earths gravity.the book also came with a little recod too.

  • The intro tells us the moon broke out of its orbit on September 13th, 1999.

  • If the moon actually did break out of it's orbit, we'd be SCREWED!!

  • I remember an interview with Gerry Anderson where he said that an American producer was forced on him following a channel takeover and it was said producer that forced the character Maya onto the show. G.A. himself thought the character ruined his show. Also an episode about the planet "Lu-Ton" which G.A. protested but couldn't stop was aired much to his embarrassment. Anyone else remember the interview?

  • The one thing I can recall is that the title of that episode came from someone (either the writer or the producer) driving along a road in England and seeing a sign for a town called Luton!

  • Disguizer, yeah you're right, the new producer driving on the motorway saw the placename and thought it sounded cool. GA wasn't pleased but didn't have final say by then. The new guy would pen all kinds of ridiculous re-writes and force them through if memory serves. Not sure whether Maya was somewhat involved with the producer. I know it was against GA's wishes that she became a part of the show. I'd like to get hold of that old interview to check it again. Thanks for the vids, they're great.

  • That "New Guy" was Fred Frieberger, the man responsible for the third season of Star Trek TOS.

  • @kaferere Obviously, she was mainly conceived as this shows answer to Mr. Spock ( as Star Treck was the other popular sci-fi show with which this was competing ).

  • @kaferere Oh, but of course she was much easier on the eyes than Spock, I must add.

  • @kaferere I adore Maya, and at the same time I know exactly what you mean. You can sum it up by saying "If she could fly an eagle, we can get rid of the rest" She was for me the epitome of the "magic alien" (re Spock) who could solve any problem they encountered because [MAKE UP STUFF HERE] No matter whether it was alien hi tech, monster, strange environment, your alien can solve it. In both shows they were not so much the alien as THE alien. On the other hand, as one fan said: ...GOOD MOVE!

  • Loved this show when i was a kid, havn't seen a thing about it for years, but I allways wanted a hand held TV phone. This show was the first place I saw them. Mobile phones today? This is where the inspiration came from.

    Wicked, thanks for posting

    Spidey

P.s. Had a crush on Maya, still do! lol

  • I remember an episode when Maya "imagined"

herself SMALLER than her real size (to

get out of a space she was stuck in.)

I wish I could see that again!

  • Now now folks, let's not get to het up ;-)

I'm obviously happy to suspend my disbelief.

But, compare a shapeshifter like Maya to Mystique from X-Men - are Maya's clothes part of her? If not how do shapeshifters in so many movies manage to duplicate the clothes as well as the body?

I think about stuff like that too much lol.

    Disguizer

  • gimme a break, scotpens....it's called suspension of disbelief. just sit back and enjoy the story.

    nerds, yeesh.

  • Oh for fucks sake scotpens

  • I remember one episode where Maya transformed herself into a cockroach or something. Some little bug that weighed about 1/2000th what she did. Where did all that extra mass go, and how did she get it back when she shifted back to human form? Plus, how can the tiny brain of an insect still think like a human brain? "Space: 1999" was never very concerned with scientific plausibility.

  • You're an idiot. Why do you even bother watching science FICTION you twat.

  • Catherine Schell as Maya ( Transformations ) SPACE 1999

    ;)

  • exellent show lve still got most of the merchantise

  • i watched this show way back when. awesome

  • Imagine an entire NEW series of Space:1999! That would be wicked!

  • No, that would suck.

  • So..Maya would basically "shape-shift" from one hot-looking female into another....is that it?

    LOL!

    Okay.

  • it would take to much energy to transform from hot to plain looking. There has to be some limitations to shape shifting after all :)

  • Maya could only hold another form for one hour. Of course, there are plenty of things that can be done in under an hour...

  • It's funny because the year 1999 was nothing like this.

  • your orders have been carried out sir. Good answer.

  • I liked Maya but that over-abundance of makeup on her cheeks sure was distracting.

  • space 1999 is still shown on itv 4

  • Cripes, it would be great to have Maya as a girlfriend. You could have any woman any time without being unfaithfull! FAB Baby! Yeah!

  • Kinda like Odo from Star Trek DS9.

  • Maya was the beautiful Catherine Schell.

Barbara Bain was hot too, even for her age.

  • I was 7 or 8 years old when i watched the series Space 1999 on TV. It's a long time ago but when i think... They made a very good job with their tecnology from 70'Th... It's a long time ago and i searched and found all the parts from Space 1999 and watching sometimes at home... 24 parts season 1 and 24 parts season 2.

  • Loved this show. I always wanted Maya's ability as a kid. To this day, she's still my favorite character, hence my youtube name. :D

  • great

i am now 36 years old... i saw this great serie in the 70s. was real great

  • Maybe today shows have better special effects, but we have more imagination and fun with this old shows.

  • I agree. Today movie-makers are spoilt for choice when it comes to technology, but they are seriously lacking in terms of creativity and imagination. Not only in sci-fi but even in comedies...compare Mel Brooks' movies to those like Scary Movie etc. Even technically impressive Stargate and Babylon 5 pale in comparison to the originality of shows more than 3 or 2 decades ago.

  • This is the first time I have seen this since I was a kid and my dad made me sit through an episode of the first season. Still pretty cool but slightly dry. I guess thats how British tv is. I don't mind it though because I love British humor, like Coupling especially (way funnier than Friends by the way.) Catherine Schell is hot!! I actually met her in France while in the Army. She is so cool and I got a few pictures with her as well to boot.

  • That is so cool! But it's so sad that Tony Verdeshi (Tony Anholt) has already passed away! He died of a brain tumor on July 26, 2002 in London England UK!

  • My dad told me about this old show so i decide4d to look it up, pretty good for back then.

  • Is it me, or did blondes look far more horny in the '70's???

  • Maya made da show every time.

  • Dr. Who from the 70s was better...

  • I liked the character of Maya.

  • Haven't seen Space 1999 since it was on in the 70s. I had a crush on Maya at school and swapped a classmate a silly amount of things to get an A4 size picture of her from Look-In magazine that I put on the back of my bedroom door. A friend visiting one evening put a sticker on the middle of her face that I couldn't get off, which caused a fight and we fell out. Seeing this clip brings it all back. Time has healed the bitterness...

  • This is a wonderful comment

  • It's interesting how they made due before CGI came along.

  • I always envied her that ability. Looked nice enough as herself, but oh, the possibilities. Silly series, mostly, but it was fun.

  • Series 1 had the better stories but I loved Maya in series 2!

  • metamorph, that what our lovley maya is...great episode seed of destruction.
