I Love This Song...Lost too many loved ones to war not to...Yes I'm an OLD metalhead, but by GOD I love Iced Earth and this song and it has real meaning
forgive me all those who died in 9/11, but I cannot stand by and justify 100,000 people dying in retaliation for 3 thousand. Earth, walk away from war please if not for us for your own children... We are the broken few who cry for all who lose in the war not just our own. We are no different from one another other than they let their hate consme them and in turn, we let ours consume us. God give me the strength to forgive those who are lost and to forgive myself for being weak and trying 2c.
@Aurumk1 if you want peace fight for it on september 11 2001 a friend called me to say good bye 2 minutes later she jumped from the 1st tower rather than burn alive i went to war for this reason you will never understand the hell she went through i have avenged her death
@chrishanlon1000 Yes and be dragged down by your hate as I was. Gangs are a much more fearsome enemy than al quieda could ever be. I don't understand hell? Oh but I do. And thats why I don't want people to go through it. I've faced down some impossible odds myself but this is america's fight and not my own. My own is to stop things like this from happening ever again by spreading a peaceful message the more people that do, the better. Stop fighting that war within you.
@Aurumk1 while i admire your peaceful qualitys i must say haveing grown up around gangs my self al quieda is far more ruthless and evil than some gang bangin hood boys and on another note hate doesnt burn in me only vengance! but all of that is over now we won and now i've earned peace within always remember there is no worse person than that of a man who does nothing i took a stand and succeded so i say to you once again if you want peace fight for it
@GonorrheaDragon have you ever felt... Connected with someone you love? Or connected because you wanted to help someone? I don't blame you for not believing in god, look at the world its full of hate and disaster. But the thing is that everytime you feel unified with all of humanity, you feel god. Sounds strange but the truth is stranger than fiction. Eventually, I will be a world leader. Say good bye to the money system because it is what causes this not god.
This song is like part of the unofficial soundtrack for us Americans regarding 9/11. I dedicate this song all of NY's first responders, the FDNY, NYPD, and NY Port Authority and everyone else who gave their lives that day so that others could be saved.
OMG!!!!! I can't get enough of hearing this, it can have so many meanings besides the orig one!! but god it's soooo good!! i almost cry everytime i play it! I play it loud in my headphones and it's friggin kick asss!!! Thankz Ian in Tulsa, Ok 4 turning me on!!
Why doesn't this song have millions of views?? What is that fag kid that doesnt even deserve to be mentioned in a Metal video doing with 400 million views in his shitty song?? SHIT!!!!!!!! >:(
Errr anyone who think the Civil War was just about slaves is a little slow. That was a part of the differences, but it was a war of ideology and change, defending ones way of life for the South, and trying to push into a modern age for the North, even those are sweeping generalisations but i only get so many letters to type :p Good song, great band.
iced son shingoness se la rifaron con esta rola iced earth dimmu borgir cannibal corpse ect son la onda arriba toda la raza metaleria y arriba mexico cabrones
@sextorx "He fought for our freedom" No, he fucking fought for the protection of HIDDEN CORRUPTION. Mad respects for your Grandpa, but that shit was NOT ABOUT FREEDOM. If anything, he fought to remain enslaved.
people please stop putting that this song would have fit better on GB. The fact is that GB would have been better if Barlow would have done it. GB is not a bad album at all but Barlow is just better for Iced Earth than Owens. I am glad this song is on horror show for Barlows vocals. That being said I am not sure if Barlow could have done a better job with Gettysburg but he does a fine job with it live. Rock on Iced Earth fans!
You hit the nail on the head imo. No one could have done what the Ripper did with High Watermark. But i feel Barlows melancholic drawl is best for IE.
actually in a way it was, the south had the freedom to split from the union, but the invaded so the south was fighting for freedom, alot of conferate thought of it like a @nd revolution
i dont know much about the battle of gettysberg but i dont think it would have made a difference if Longstreet had've screwed up or not cause in my opinon general Lee's plan was suicide anyway
Reread your middle school history textbook. The hostilities between the north and the south began with slavery, and the growing anti-slavery sediments in the north, and the pro-slavery movement in the south.
@Nagneto They separated, because they wanted their own states to control what happened within their borders. Not to much federal gov't control, like this God Damn obamanation that we have now.
It is bs but at the same time can I ask you something? Who built your library? Schools? Hospitals? The governement my friend. Yes there are turds in the punch bowl. Not everyone in the government is bad either. Stay in the middle and look at both sides of the coin. I agree Obama is not the best, Jon Schaffer recently went on and researched and has his views on theories and what not. I believe there could be a new world order and I believe some shit is fucked up.
@Blackened619 That was part of the reason but the major reason was due to the Government the sout wanted a weak central government and the north wanted a strong central governmant.
It is indeed the only song on the album that does not fit the concept. Schaffer said so himself, however, the song weas too good to be omitted, so they put it on the album. And I do agree with that, too!! One of my favorites. :-)
One of my favourite albums, very inconsistent band though

Right on, brudda.
The Civil war had nothing to do with Slavery. It was just a point in an argument between the two sides.
Wonder what life would have been like if General Longstreet hadn't screwed up during the Battle of Gettysburg.
Probably not much different. People tend to suck the same.
