  • what is this sport? :$ another version of taekwondo?

  • I'm training in MMA do you think this kick can be useful in a fight?

  • @TheBountar

Ever here of the Rich Franklin axe kick? Once mastered it can take do 18 points of damage with a 12% knockout rate. Hell yeah it is good in a fight.

  • @TheBountar It wouldn't be more damaging than a headkick and it's slower, so as far as "traditional" MMA goes it's not useful.

Also notice how he's stepping in, It's like a rear leg kick, but even slower, if you're against a wrestler you'd be on your ass before you even have your leg up.

That being said I've seen it used in a fight or two. But never successfully, I don't think they were even able to connect with it. MMA is too fast for this telegraphed fighting style.

  • when I do this kick, I lift it up by the side...not front, and then just lean my body backwards for the power...key?...50% flexibility 50% speed when your leg is going up

  • easy kick, key is flexibility

  • i saw this kick first on tha video game Tekken and always thought it was badass haha, Looks just as cool in real life too :D

  • Nero Chagi- pendulo fronta no axe kick bestia!!

  • Nero Chagi*

  • People who comment on videos and having argument with someone else obviously have no lives... Unless they're gamers, cause gamers have lots of lives...

  • Lame

  • THAT WAY OF KICKING AIN'T VERY EFFECTIVE DUE TO,IT'S VERY EASY TO SEE IT,INSTEAD OF PULLING ALL YOUR LEG UO,FIRST YOU HAVE TO RISE YOUR KNEE IN ORDER TO HIDE THE KICK AND THEN KICKINGMTHAT WAY IS FASTER,!!!!!! WELL LIKE IN TAE KWON DO

  • my sister do teakwondo we spared and i beat her with my judo she went to axe kick me a cuaght it and osotogaried her in front of her bf aswell lol

  • @hotleadPRODUCTIONS You beat a woman in a contact sport!? No way!

  • @TheWentzMachine it was my sister she striked first and she bigger

  • @hotleadPRODUCTIONS I was being sarcastic and making fun of you for thinking that was an achievement.

  • @TheWentzMachine you are a troll so im gonna stop feeding you now bye forever

  • @hotleadPRODUCTIONS Ok man. I'm sure most people think beating your sister in alleged TKD is an achievement so i totally must be trolling.

    Enjoy your remaining years.

  • @TheWentzMachine lalallallalala cant hear you lallalllllalllallalalalalallalla

  • @hotleadPRODUCTIONS thats mature.

  • @hotleadPRODUCTIONS you wanna fuck your sister... creep..

  • @pimpnhard101 when did i say that troll

  • Oi vey; I can only imagine what that would do to some poor bastard's head.

  • It's nothing to do with associations. This guy is NOT performing the same kick over and over. He shows an inside cresent kick, then an outside cresent kick then eventually shows the axe kick. Axe kick comes straight down on the opponent, funny enough like an AXE. To get the leg into position he picks the leg up bent and extends the leg above opponents head or chest and then drops the leg and body in opposite directions to create power on the kick. Simples! TKD 24 yrs

  • ponele mas emocionn!

  • this is gunna be perfect for when my enemy is on his hands and knees begging for mercy >:D

  • i can see it now.......AAAAHHHHHH MY GROIN!!!!! and thats why you and your brothers are retarded.

  • js started it and its kind of tough on the legs and near the crotch area, lmao, any advice?

  • MAN this kick is hard to get right! The flexibility aspect is the thing that gets me. WHICH IS RIDICULOUS because I can touch my head to both of my knees. It might also be a balance thing, but I don't know. Anything that people do wrong, like most often?

  • Won't people get injured bending their back like that while kicking?

  • This is a muay Thai wannabe who tries the kick push while lifting his leg. Advice: if you get beat up at school or wanna look cool to people then do something else. Martial arts take as much dedication as marriage. You should be able to stick thru the most boring and weakest lock escape moves and not to stop after you got what you want/didn't get what you want. Books and movies don't teach you how to make art, Only experience does.

  • Andy Hug OSU

  • i find it funny how my friend says this is not an axe kick. i got pissed off telling him it is and just said hes gay.

  • yur doin it wrong. you bring your knee up first, then extend the leg, then bring it down. that's usually the rule of taekwondo in most kicks, knee first, and the higher you bring your knee the higher you'll kick. try dong dolleyo chagi (which you should hopefully know is korean for roundhouse) with your leg straight. notice how slow it is .... now try it by first lifting your knee. notice how painful it is for the air in front of you... usually one would use gravity to their advantage.

  • Tai kwon do suck go kick boxing at least

  • @QCBEC just a simpler version of tkd

  • so easy.. (?) xD

  • ma alzi le gambe come un cretino, senza una tecnica precisa buuuuu..... cmq l estenzione ci siamo.....

  • why would i need to watch this video if i already know how to do an axe kick

  • When the kick is decending you can also strike with the heel. But only do so in a self defense situation. This kick landed with the heel to the nose or collar bone will break it.

  • Wow people arguing over axe kick technique! lol, there are several different ways to throw any kick sticking rigidly to one way is narrow minded. You can bring an axe up outside to inside , inside to outside or vertically, bend the knee or not, you can even bring it down at a slight angle, although anything greater than 45 degrees might look more like a hook kick. The only thing that really matters is if it does the job. If it works, use it.

  • sonic can do that i can do that

  • I have been learning karate for 1 years. But we never do it. Though it is more powerful, but we have a block against this kick. If we can catch it, we just kick opponent's balls. LOL

  • @foysal13 Lol no offense but i do have a bit of TKD expirence (7 years), and if you fought against someone who performed this kick correctly, it would be extremely painful to catch unless you conditioned yourself daily to take blows to your head or neck. plus, kicking the opponents balls is sorta disrespectful as well as cheap if used while practicing.

  • unless of cource, you were not doing full contact sparring and your opponent was using a reduced amount of power.

  • oh my gosh, so much power

  • my favorite kick

  • @azulablue1 I've been doing Taekwondo for seventeen years and this is how its done.

  • @kyryllo im a old school jujitsu teacher and we dont do it. lol! TRUTH is i use it myself depending on situation i use foot or heel. but combat is diffrent try using it with boots. who cares then!

  • Comment removed

  • @kyryllo you dont slide foward when you do it. My master is a grand master and has been doing tae kwon do for over twenty years and he train part of the army when he was in south korea. He was his own school in america. I have been doing tae kwon do for seven years and i am a second degree black belt and I am on the Demo team. The person who did this did not take his stance every well either and you are not supposed to bend you knee.

  • @kyryllo Both of you guys, it depends a lot on which association you come from :) Every one does it in a slightly different way :)

  • @kyryllo I've been doing Taekwondo for twenty seven years but i won't tell you how it's done

  • @kyryllo i've been doing tkd for 9 year's and im pretty sure it's more effective if u hit with ur bone under ur foot(unfortunatly my english so good i don't know the name of the bone)

  • @kyryllo Well actually axe kick is a flexible kick... You can make it appear like a front kick, a side kick, a stretch kick and etc...

  • @kyryllo There's a man who busted a clavicle with this kick who would beg to differ.

  • @kyryllo my TKD instructor has been doing TKD for 40 plus years and he says you are doing it wrong...

  • @kyryllo

I've been doing Tae Kwon Do 29 years, and this is not how it's done.

  • @andiders Thank you!

  • @kyryllo how come in kyokushin karate we go to the outside then down and tkd just goes staright up and down ?

  • @kyryllo actually azulablue is right my father has been doing tae kwon do for 45 years but the concept and structure of your kick is correct :D. continue in your studies my friend

  • people do not try to attempt this until your flexebility in both your legs are acceptable for this kick. You can end up straining a muscle very badly at least take one or two tkd lessons to build up your flexebility first ty.

  • @kyryllo lol :)

  • @azulablue1 Well I see you've been training for seven years in vain.

  • @azulablue1 Correct lah u flying fuck..

  • @qwaileongq Excuse me??? I don't think you should be saying that. I just earn my 3rd degree black belt.

  • @azulablue1 haha, sorry.. was in a bad mood.. im am only 13, im poom belt, got 4 gold medals and 1 silver in sparring tournaments.. [=

  • @qwaileongq oh well thats cool Im only 12 and I just got my 3rd degree black belt saturday

  • @azulablue1 i dun think you could even get a black belt yet?? cos only 15 and above could get a black belt and to get a 3rd dan, u nid to be at least 18..

  • @qwaileongq The tae kwon do studio i go to lets you get your black belt young I got my first one when i was 10

  • @azulablue1 hahahahaha faggot troll. Get owned.

  • @harrybobarry ? What?

  • @azulablue1 lol pwned you loser

  • @joeratti Look whos talking, LOSER!

  • @azulablue1 TKD is obsolete in Martial Arts. You have been wasting your time for 7 years.

  • @Lrdvltr who asked you? and i don't care what you think now shut your mouth and mind your freakin buisness

  • @Lrdvltr there are two sides to taekwondo.... the sport, and the actual martial art. obviously you wouldn't start bouncing on your heels and check stepping someone if they pulled a knife, if that is what your ranting about. and if you say that taekwondo doesn't protect against that, then you should try learning poomse 1

  • @azulablue1 this man is a master such as i in taekwondo.. he shows great flexability and good accuracy.. the way he kicks looks like 4th degree junior master.. as for u young one .. u have only 3rd degree experience and this is indeed the way axe kick is done.. there is out and in axe kick, in and outaxe kick and basic strikeing axe kick

  • @djfjgfhgh I don't car what you like i di ask 4 ur stupid opinion!

  • @azulablue1 uh yeah it is?? and to each hes own instructor right?? -.-

  • @ghostllunall my tae kwon do master has been do tae won do for over 30 years he was in the army in korea and he has tought me personally, because hes like my dad. If you were doing board breaking you wouldnt be siding in to kick and you don't bend your knee. I would no I have won 7 gold metals in borad breaking.

  • @azulablue1 i guess :/

  • @azulablue1 OOOHHH shit! you got owned son... zing!

  • @ESCAPEDCONVICT01 I'm a girl and how the helled did i get owned?

  • @azulablue1 no comment....

  • @azulablue1 This is how its done. After 15 years of jujitsu, I can't see how else you could even get the body mechanics right to deliver an effective kick (in that style).

  • @HoorayforOranges I do it that way everytime i go to tae kwon do practice and the instructors say i do it correctly.

  • @azulablue1 lmao, Imagine you knew anything about..anything xD

  • have you ever lost a fight?? o_o ... XD

  • HE IS SUCK

  • so easy i'm an martial artists yellow belt!

  • you're better off not lifting your ground-foot- while kicking.. you lose balance and power

  • lol at first i thought it said "ass kick Tutorial" LOL

  • whenever i try to preform this kick, my knee joint gets pained on impact. i am pretty sure i am doing it wrong...what am i doing wrong and how can i improve it?

  • @joshtmarr you're likely doing it correct it's just that tkd is a very hard style on the body. Gets worse as you age too. If you stick with TKD just know some things you flat out may not be able to do so must adapt different techniques. If the club or school won't let you then leave it behind and shake the dust of it off your feet.

  • @robocoastie It's more likely that he is doing it wrong, he shouldn't punch with heel, it's really bad 4 knee, and his target should be flexyble...cuz when you kick, oponent goes down!!!

  • @donderfull yea, hard to tell without seeing him do it.

  • there is a different type of axe kick which isn't for fighting but it's WAY cooler.

  • i love this kick since i did it and pwnd my hamstring and fell backwards and broke my arm at once =D!

  • You can only hurt yourself if you use it full force on an opponent who can fully block it or if you do it incorrectly/twisted. Though if your flexible enough (like put ur knee in ur spine and ur spine in ur face or something) you would probably be fine

  • for maximum efficiency you must hit with heel, not with your fingers...

It will shorten your distance for a bit , but result will be devastating

  • Cool!!! =-P

  • Cheebye Error@!

  • can't you injure your knee with this?

  • @Nesszors yes you can just like with any fully extended kick of a side fist punch. So your knee should always be slightly bent when the leg is coming down. Its like practising normal roundhouse kicks, never fully extend, even when your punching or kicking a bag. But those high kicks really only work in competitions, any street fight or no holds barred fight (ie cage fighting) if you catch that leg, the opponent is going down bigtime, however, if that leg connects its game over as well, risky.

  • The weapon is the back of the leg, not the foot?

  • It is mainly focussed on the back of the heel and ankle.

  • Something people dont learn is that many kicks and punches aren't single use, they can be put into combo or used differently.

Instead of sidekicking the stomach, side kick the hips, weaken his balance, soften his muscles in the legs.

Or Axe kick, instead of hitting the ground, you can aim high and come down hard on the head and it may not look it, but that is alot of power.

Like the Muay Thai Knee in a way.

  • lol wrong you dont have to drop your foot on the ground

  • Axe kicks aren't that great for real fights unless the other person is stumbling backwards then it's perfect. Also, don't use a jump axe kick on someone cause it can potentially kill them.

  • the good thing about an axe kick is most people think youve just missed your kick, till it comes back down.

go watch some andy hug, he'll show you how its done.

  • exactly :)

  • @thephunkyone andi hug was a machine with them

  • @thephunkyone Andy Hug does the Karate axe kick. Karate drops the heel on the head or the shoulders. In tournaments, I've seen a lot of Karate fighters having their shoulder broken or have shattered skulls. TKD axe kick is mainly aimed at the face with their foot.

  • every kick or punch (to the head) could potentially kill someone...

  • axe kicks aren't good if they're standing, or maybe I just suck haha

  • that's a hard kick to do.

    great job. 5 stars

  • Andy Hug

  • its called a slamming kick but frm wat i see most westerners tkd practioners calls it the axe kick. tats wat i noe, iam still trying to kick with impact

  • Dannybergeson Check out andy Hug... K-1 fighter. very well known for his axe kicks.

  • this kick is amzing for sure..but i have yet to see a fighter who can lift their leg straight above their head at 90 degrees and then kick..anyone know of one?

  • george saint pierre uses the axe kick often when his opponent is lying on the ground

  • Eh, you're better off using Jiu-Jitsu and pinning, choking, or arm-barring your opponent than kicking downward.

  • you're going to knock someone out by pinning them?

  • No, but you can put them into a position where the cannot strike you very effectively while you have at least one arm free to pummel their face in.

  • this isnt 1996 anymore, everyone knows basic grappling, thats why you need both grappling and stand up.

  • Yeah, I'm not arguing that you need no knowledge of stand up fighting. What I'm saying is that if somebody is lying on the ground face up, using Jiu-Jitsu is smarter than putting your leg 90 degrees in the air and kicking down.

  • You don't understand.

Cheick Kongo does that to do damage on the ground, there is NO way he would ever intentionally go to the ground in a fight

  • I completely agree with you, you have to understand though that it depends what circumstances its used under. Lets say Cheick Kongo has someone on the ground he can either A.)Go to the ground and fight there or B.) Attempt to damage the opponent as much as possible

Cheick would obviously choose B because his ground game is weak, so for him, kicking would make more sense than going to the ground. By the way youre describing the kick you sound like you think it has no power, but it is.

  • Yeah, that is true. There is quite a bit of power behind this kick, but if you want a 100% chance of defeating your opponent, a choke is the best option.

I am a Jiu-Jitsu guy, so I do anything that I can to get my opponent down and keep him down. I can, however, see this kick being used as effectively as Jiu-Jitsu.

  • name a position to prove your point :-)

  • cheick kongo

  • woooho how did manage to kick tat target pat tat loud, normally when i kick it, the sound comes out to be shit

  • hey man u sound like u might know the name of this kick

ok ur in ur kicking stance and ready to kick u turn ur waist go on the ball of ur foot that ur posting on and try kick the person with ur free leg with the top or to the side of ur foot i got taught the kick but forgot the name of it cud u plz resopnde to me i really need to know

  • fav kick

  • this is one of the few kicks i cant preform, even though i stretch alot and do flexibility exercises when my leg gets up there my hip clicks and locks together, and boy it hurts am i doing something wrong.

ps to the guy who said the spinning back kick comment, trust me i know i was sparring my instructor i anticipated a side kick (he has a routine) but then bam! right in the nads, luckily i wore a cup which cracked...

  • ¿solamente esa altura podés dar?

  • I like this move... it's my favourite move in kickboxing

  • hmm.. i kick with the heel in the axe kick.

it think it'll produce more damage to the oppenent

  • So do, I thought it was used to finish some punk off on the ground, but apparently not. I stuffed my heel yesterday practicing it on concrete lol.

  • @TheFirearmEnthusiast

    happens man.

but eventually your heel will get stronger.

remember what doesn't kill you makes you stronger(mental strength as well)

  • I hope you're right. It definitely wouldn't have felt as bad on somebody because concrete has a lot more resistance hahahahaa!

  • You can use it on people on the ground, but its also a very powerful kick standing up too, plus its very awkward and hard to block if your not use to it.

  • @anirudhkrishnamani

I think kicking with your heel might be bad for your knee but I'd verify with a professional.

  • @anirudhkrishnamani depends on the target and what you want to gain from the attack

  • @anirudhkrishnamani thats a good strategy but i think if you do it on something really hard it hurts your heel so i just use my foot because you know how theres this pad kinda thing on the base of your foot it absorbs the pain

  • @saradomin89898

ahh..! for that reason i make sure to wear shoes :P

jokes apart i guess if one conditions his heel enough then i guess it won't hurt.

  • @anirudhkrishnamani Karate axe kick uses mainly the heels and sometimes the foot. And yes, heels are much more damaging. There's actual history records where Karate fighters has actually killed an opponent by landing the heel kick on the skull or the back of the neck. Even today, some had their arms and shoulders broken from a axe kick using the heel. But TKD uses the foot so it's easier to land. Done successfully, it's still capable of knocking out an opponent.

  • bad...

  • The axe kick is one of those kicks that will never get dated, I use it constantly either, skipping, sliding or tornado. There are many variations of this kick. I'll do a tutorial later on the spinning axe more variations. Guys like pedro xavier, and Jason Bourelly popularized this kick in the sport karate arena. Check out "Click click boom"

  • I love useing this kick for sparing. Its grate for getting behind guards and if that dosent work, it leave them open for a follow up attack.

  • Wow, so glad im by myself on my computer.

    Most embarassing shit... :|

I do MMA, and i didnt strech just now, and got up and tryed this after not doing shit all day, and i pulled my groin, and rolled around on the ground in pain, hahaha.

    fuck im a loser

  • lol shit happens.

  • When is the right timing to use this kick? and how would you counter it?

  • Any kick above waist height is too dangerous. It's far too easy for an opponent to catch your leg and break you kneecap.

  • but if your opponent is a easy one and you attack him unguard, it's a very dangerous and handy kick isnt?

correct me if im wrong no affence.

  • For most people, yes this is true.

But some do have the speed, flexibility and timing to pull it off. (Speaking about high kicks in general, not axe kick specifically)

  • High kicks are very easy to "telegraph",watching opponent set-up or simply watching the eyes can alert you to a large movement coming. The spinning back kick is very effective and can seriously/ permanently damage a male opponent. Nothing like an exploded nut the size of a grapefuit or larger can lay most any guy up for 4-8 weeks easily(personal experience).Watch yourself, get in and out and remember your blocks.

  • of course you can use this kick on a body, slam your foot down on their collar bone and crush it. slam your foot in their face to knock them out. if they're guarding their face with their hands then slam your foot down onto their hands to remove the guard.

this kick is bloody good, but idiots who don't know how to use it underate it its utility

  • A friend of mine got taken by an axe kick one time a while back. He tried to block it and it took his shoulder right out of the socket.

  • i can do an axe kick, i can do it with my leg straight

  • i alway did that with kazuya in tekken

  • Dont you give urself a knee-bar type thing when you do this kick?

Cause i tryed it on a bagg and it bent the shit out of my knee, and then it hurt for the dayy..

  • You must learn to control your kicks when working out,if a heavy bag was used then injury can occur easily. Practice more on the reverse snap, balance and next move/moves.Don't laugh but veterinary liniment (used on race horse muscles) works wonders on knees, ankles and more. This liniment can be obtained at Farm & Fleet or any tack store.

  • Can you throw the axe kick to the body, too?

  • No.Its useless.

  • Andy Hug knocked people out all the time with it

  • I mean an axe kick to the body.

  • yea, useless lol

  • If you can't even use this tecnhiq on a body, why even bother learning it? :S

no affence but I just dont see the point of using this kick...
