  • Best shooter and skills Maravich, best passer and dribbling Nash, who is better?, i think Pete Maravich

  • Pete was more in the street ball creativity, Nash really is someone who doesn't like to embarrass people as much as Pete and thus doesn't do the things the Pistol did. But also the defense wouldn't let most of those passes through.

  • name of the song?

  • @BazhoFromTheHood kanye west- champion

  • I'd say these two Rival in passing ability, both of them make some absolutely DIRTY passes! But in overall creativity and ball handling ability, gotta give it to The Pistol!! No disrespect to Nash, he's a baller!

  • you guys dont appreciate Steve Nash enough. He is one of the best PGs to ever play the game. 2 time MVP, 5 times Assist leader and averaged 50-40-90 in four seasons which is an NBA record...

  • Can't really compare them as they played in a very different generation of basketball. Defense is tougher in Nash's generation rather than Pete's generation. That being said, defense was also more physical back in those days of Pete.

  • pistol pete all the way!! No comparioson!!

  • ok steve nash doesnt compare to pistol there are there own category

  • 240p we meet again

  • Pete was blessed with basketball talent. Very few players that are able to showcase their talents like Pete showed his.

  • Maravich is an all-time great, but Steve Nash is one of the toughest players ever. Search: Steve Nash Bleeds

  • I LOVE NASH BUT IM SORRY NO ONE MATCHES UP AGAINST PISTOL

  • @TroubleinParadise000 Jason Williams does!!!

  • Artist tag should read: "Artist: Pete Maravich"

  • Steve Nash does not even compare.

  • If they play one-on-one, Pistol Pete would clearly kill Nash!

  • pete all the way

  • Good video, bad music

  • in my mind they are about equal. pistol was a great shooter passer and dribbler and so is steve nash. pistol was a 2 nash is a 1, and if nash took as many shots as pistol, his points would be 35+. if pistol passed it as much as nash his assists would be 15+. nash is probably a better team player than pistol, but man what i wouldn't do to see the pistol play again.

  • @rossmaster175 Equal? Pete MAravich is the most talented basketball player ever, he just needed steroids from our era and he would be the greatest.

  • maravich is better cuz he was more of a scorer. nash is a trad pont guard. all assist man, makes it look flashy too

  • Pistol Pete was before my day and I still know that Nash is not Pistol's league. That just ain't happening boys.

  • they are different kinda hard to compare... maravich was a versatile scorer nash is a sensational pg

  • No contest... Maravich would kill him!

  • nash is good but will never be as good as maravich

  • how u can compare a Teacher of the basketball with just mvp nba player?

  • Pistol Pete is one of the greatest point guards ever. Easily better than Nash even if I love Nash...

Fun fact, with a 3 point line, Pistol would have averaged 56 points.

  • there is no comparison between the two because pistol did his thing in a time when no players in major college basketball, aka the white guys, played like him. pistol paved the way for nash and anyone who makes flashy plays look routine. also pistol pete was a scorer first in college, while nash has always been a passer. if the 3 point line would have been there maravich would have averaged 57 points a game at LSU. there will never be another pistol pete maravich

  • a bunch of freaking orange/white/yellow & black pixels jumping around :(

  • steve nash will never stand up to pistol petes game

  • randy rhoads of basketball

  • @DkDax21596 Maravich is one of the best players of all time, I love Nash but come on. You think amare stoudamire is a better finisher then Wilt Chamberlain? Again I'm a Knicks and love Amare but please

  • I love watching good point guards do their thing. Pistol Pete, Nash, Magic, Kidd, hell even Cousy all have the same theme; pass first. I love watching that basketball because you know they got everyone involved and people wanted to play with them. I wish there was more of that when guys like Iverson, Francis, and Marbury played in the NBA. and thats my two cents

  • No one will ever compare to Pistol Pete .... unless your black.

  • PISTOL AFFECTED THE GAME OF BASKETBALL AND BROUGHT IT UP TO A NEW LEVEL OF PLAY...Nash affected his team and brought them up a level in their league. Both are great...PISTOL THE GREATEST.

  • honestly... I think they're equal in MANY facets of the game. except Pistol was a groundbreaking pioneer. Nash is just an incredible point guard

  • :47 so dirty

  • God I hate rap....couldnt you find ANY music better than this shit?

I don't see the need to compare Nash and Pistol: Pistol was a shooting guard and Nash a point guard.

But, I'll take a healthy Pistol over a healthy Nash any day....Yes, young people---he was THAT great.

  • nash is better cuz hes from a different era. Maravich was really innovative and brought a ton of new stuff to the nba including his talent and skills but Nash is just plain NASHTY!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • @tom88cba obviously Nish is much more valuable to a basketball team. Thats all that matter. I don't give a crap how many ways Pete could pass behind his back. Means nothing.

This is not even close. I can't believe hype hyped Maravich is.

  • @45arther Take the emotion out of it then, look at the numbers. He's one of the best in the history of the game and if you dont know that, you know very little about the history of basketball.

  • Steve who?

  • @2:39 = Wow.

  • 2:14 is that steve nash dunking

  • lsu was 3-20 yr before pistol pete came, nextyear they were 20-3

  • I don't really think the comparison is appropriate. Nash is a true "1" or "point guard". For all his ball skills, Pete was in no way a "point guard". He was not a distributor, which is the first function of a point guard. Pete was a "2" or "scoring" guard. . I was around in those days. His role was more along the lines of a Kobe or MJ, who also had the ball in their hands, but were never considered point guards. While his passing skills were amazing, he did not "run his team" effectively.

  • A quick addendum: When I say that Maravich was the greatest college player ever... then the statistics WILL REALLY tell you something. 42.7 PPG!!! Not only that, but when the old footage of his games was scrutinized... based on where he was taking his jumpers, he would've scored 13 3-pointers per game... at least! Remember, he would've been trying for more. With the 13 3-pointers accounted for, his NCAA average would've been over 57 PPG!!! Holy crap...

  • @sc0ner I don't understand, if he was really that good, why the lack of team success. You can't be the best college player ever without at least getting close to the final four. His teams never even made the NCAA tournament. From reading all these posts, I'm starting to think Pistol was/is the most overrated player of all time.

  • @neeks6 Dan Marino never won a superbowl, yet he is still considered one of the greatest quarterbacks of all time. This also applies to Pete Maravich

  • @hi5z Dan Marino played football. He was one of 11 players(?) on offense, in maybe half the plays his job was just to give the ball to the runningback. On plays he passed, his success was at the mercy of his blockers and recievers. He didnt play on defense and special teams. A basketball superstar accounts for at least 30% of the teams offense and at least a fifth on defense. A player SHOULD make an impact of basketball.

  • @sc0ner "Not only that, but when the old footage of his games was scrutinized... based on where he was taking his jumpers, he would've scored 13 3-pointers per game... at least!"

No way -- that would beat the NCAA record by 3 times. He would have seen much more defense out there if each shot counted 50% more.

  • There is no "versus." Nash is great. Pete Maravich was the most magical player in the history of the NBA. You can't understand it if you look at statistics (though I would say that his 40+ and 50+ point games will tell you something.) If you compare the numbers, you'd think Nash was the better ball handler. More assists per game. Hehehe. You had to see the Pistol play. What Cousy invented the Pistol perfected! And the greatest college player ever. And he played on half a working heart!!

  • Pete is way way way better than nash... Nash may not even beat Magic Johnson IMHO

  • Comment removed

  • not even close Maravich was more athletic 6' 05" and could out "Nash" Nash

  • Jow dare he bastardize steely Dan, that scumbag. But no comparison, pistol Pete was special. Mash isn't even code, it comparing steely Dan to Kanye west

  • All time white team Starters.(.McHale, Bird, Divac, Maravich, Nash)...Bench (Nowitzki,Barry, Cousy, Walton, West) VS all time black team Starters (Pippen, Webber, Wilt, Jordan, Johnson) Bench (Erving, Bryant, Alcindor, Drexler, McGrady)..Don't know who would win a 7 game series but it would be fun to watch.(Shaq is disqualidied for being to darn big and Blake for being half white half black)

  • is it ok if I turn off the music when I watch this ?

  • Pistol pete: best shooter, best passer, best dribbling, best ball handling, best creativity, most ORIGINAL player ever to play.....

  • Props to Nash but Pete is in a class by himself.

  • We can never really tell unless they face each other on the hardcourt...

  • It took the NBA 20 years to catch up with Pistol Pete!

  • Nash by a landslide! Maravich is ahead of his time and makes great highlights, but Nash is more substance. Pistol was an inefficient scorer and turnover machine, while Nash is workin on his 6th straight 50/40/90 season. Nash is the reason those Suns won 50-60+ gms every year, It's not a coincidence that Pistol's teams were always below .500. Nash is a below average defender, but Pistol makes him look like MJ on D.

  • @neeks6 Pistol Pete + Amare Stoudemire + Shaun Marion = championship. There's no way you can tell me that the Pistol wouldn't eclipse Nash if he had those teammates! I'm sorry neeks but he already does without them.

  • @dorsal08 Dude, Maravich led one team to a winning record, barely.

  • @neeks6 So we talking which team is better or which man?

  • @dorsal08 We're talking which man made his team better. Pistol couldn't win in the NBA till he was buried in the bench, dude couldn't even take his team to the NCAA tournament, he might have won an NIT game. It's more than a coincidence or hard luck, his game didn't bring team sucess.

  • @neeks6 Neeks, Nash's team has never even won the western conference finals. So if you're talking about making his team better, Nash doesn't really have much to stand on. Dallas went on to the finals without him. And Nash's Suns aren't even going to make the playoffs without Amar'e. Maybe it was Amar'e that made the team better, or Nowitzki that made Dallas better?

  • @dorsal08 I don't recall Amare or Dirk being in Phx in '06 when the suns were a couple games away from the finals. Look at that roster, they would win 20-25 if you had pistol instead of Nash. Look at Nash's track record or better yet, actually watch the games, and you'll laugh yourself out of the room for saying Nash doesn't make his teams better.

  • @neeks6 One thing that Nash certainly does is make individuals better. Shaun Marion, Joe Johnson, and even Amar'e (among many others) owe much of their contracts to Nash's assists. I don't mean to hate on Nash. I love to watch him with the ball because he's capable of doing anything. But he may be cursed with teams (or coaches) whose systems aren't built for championships. Outside of LA and San Antonio, and maybe Boston (just because they've only won one recently) what team really is?

  • @neeks6 when pete was with the hawks they made the playoffs every year

  • @ps3rocks15 You're almost right. The hawks played in the worst division in bball, and the top 2 teams in each division would make the playoffs. So, despite finishing years with the 5th worst recordout of 18(?) they would be considered a top 8 team. That would be like letting the Warriors or the Bucks into this years playoffs. Then they changed the rules, and the Hawks and pistol didn't make it.

  • Pistol Pete:Steve Nash::Michael Jordan:Eddie Robinson

  • nash was quite a player,he had a good deal of createtivity in his game. But alot of people forget that Pistol was almost 6ft 5 inches, so when you got tired of chase'n him around he could still stop on a dime and raise up for a most accurate jump shot that was very difficult to defend.

  • Nash - better passer, more accurate

Maravich - better overall scorer, faster, better ball handling

Both have etremely high basketball IQs and are classy

Both will go down as two of the best point guards to play the game, so I'll take either point guard if you ask me.

  • @phoenixfanboy1

That's the most accurate thing I've seen stated in relation to this video.

  • If it wasn't for Pistol, Steve Nash wouldn't be doing the stuff he's doing. To me, Pistol Pete is the 2nd greatest player to ever play the game (behind Julius Erving), but Nash is still amazing. He plays for my hometown too. :P

  • ummm....maravich OWNS. hes the best in my opinion. always was, always will be.

  • Anyone who watches films of both Nash and Maravich and choose Nash should have their eyes examined...no offense to Nash...I have seen both play and it's Maravich hands down...I have never seen Nash match Pistol's moves, ball handling and scoring ability...saw the game that Pete burned both Frazier and Monroe...unbelievable...there was and still has never been anyone like Pete Maravich, no one...

  • guys Pete Maravich played better than any other basketball player ever im not hating on jordan but "pistol" made jordan look like a rookie he had inhuman speed he averaged 44 points a game and they didnt even have a 3 point line back then

  • Marques Haynes and Bob Cousy were the pioneers of basketball dribbling and ballhandling.

  • Everything Nash does he learned from the Pistol!

  • what kanye song is this?

  • Maravich is better. Hands down, best fakes ever preformed.

  • I think Maravich was the best shooter ever, and his dibbling was very good, but i think Nash is the best passer ever, Maravich was a revolution, but in my opinion Nash is the best playmaker ever, the true, the greatest, but if someone can remember me another better o argue with me about this will be perfect

  • @CARLOSGURO youre forgetting john stockton= who currently holds the all-time assists record, magic johnson= led the showtime lakers fastbreak= bob cousy= originated the fancy passing, nate archibald= led the league in assists and points in a single season(this list are just on playmakers)

  • @conanbdetective who cares who invented fancy passing, and who cares about stocktons stats. Maravich did it with NOBODY on his team, Nash similarly had a roster with no starts in the 05-06 season, and without Nash, that team would've been nothing (this was the season they did not have Stoudemire, if you didn't know) It's not Nash's assisting that's amazing, it's how he finds a way to make offense easy. People say his passing is good, it's not, he makes offense look like a piece of cakeforhisteam

  • The Pistol invented the moves of basetball

  • @wolff1277 youre forgetting earl monroe, he invented the spin move

  • i dont think you can actually compare them at all. they have two completley different styles of play. nash with his to the book fundamentals and pistol pete with his playground flashy trick moves. the only thing i think they actually have in common is court awareness.

  • stop saying "hands down"

  • steve nash is by far the better team player and playmaker, but as for scoring, the pistol hands down. steve nash even models his training after maravich.

also, pistol pete played before there was a 3 pt line and still averaged 30 points a game.

  • I take "Pistol" Pete Maravich over Steve Nash hands down!! If it was not for Maravich, there would be no Nash. Pistol Pete was definitely better when it came to scoring and had a slight edge when it came to passing. Steve is very technical with his passes, but he cannot even do just about half of what Pistol Pete could do as far as handles when it comes to scoring the basket.

  • im sorry to all nash fans but pete is better at playmaking, dribbling, and passing. no doubt

  • Personally i think Nash is a more "effective" point guard, maybe the wrong word though. He drives harder and more aggressively, makes strong, slightly flashy, but solid passes. Pete did that, but I wouldn't be surprised how many Times Maravich must of thrown it out of bounds or hit a teammate in the head. Of course Nash makes some dirty passes, I feel he is more of an old-fashioned passer/player. With scoring, there is no doubt Pete tops Nash, but Nash can get points up, too.

  • I wish this two gentlemen met in the court. It would be really a great showtime.

Boys and girls this two guys belong to the best point guards that play in

    the NBA.

  • thanks for the video regardless of quality. Both these guys can flat out handle the rock. If I had to pick, I'd let the other guy go first and I'd take either of them. Again, thanks for the video...got any more??

  • Pete.

I'm a 15 year old guy, so obviously never had the honor of seeing him play.

But 44.2 points WITHOUT the three point line.

    Amazing.

  • @perfectiondark24 and with the three-point line

  • steve won he da best of all time

  • pistol is the sun gun

  • I would think that pistol's passing is more flamboyant compared to steve nash's. But in terms of accuracy I would say Steve Nash's passing is more accurate (for now).

  • i think nash is probably a better passer. pistol may be more flashy, but nash is very accurate with his passes. i haven't seen pistol's passing, but i can't imagine it being better than nash's.

BUT as all-round player, pistol takes it by a mile with his ridiculous shooting and ball-handling skills.

  • @MyGTisBomb you said "nash is very accurate with his passes. i haven't seen pistol's passing, but i can't imagine it being better than nash's."

Wow fella, that's a big assessment, and going out on a long limb to say Nash was a better passer than Pete when you ADMIT you've NEVER EVEN SEEN Pete Maravich pass!!!

That has got to be in the Top-10 of You-Tube's new award category 'Stupid Statements by Moronic Idiots.'

Look slick, please remove the foot from your mouth before you comment.

  • @MarkCoupons yes i did say that...i was trying to say, in other words, nash is the best passer i've ever seen. so it is unlikely for someone i've never seen play before be a better passer than nash.

nowhere you will find my thoughts on Pete's passing accuracy, cuz like u told me, i've never seen his passing. you derived from my comment that "Nash was a better passer than Pete", which is missing one crucial word....PROBABLY.

there's nothing wrong with my comment because i think before i speak.

  • fuck you frtrty77 you god damn yankee. shut the fuck up.

  • check out my version of petes dribbling drill

  • Pistol...Period.

  • man pistol much better-.-

  • Living in New Orleans when Pete was a freshman at LSU. He could not play on varsity. His freshman team came to Tulane to play Tulane freshmen. Friends, even as a FRESHMAN, he packed the Tulane arena. The freshman game was before Tulane varsity game against some team. But Pistol Pete was the one that packed the house! He was awesome.

  • Maravich without disrespect. Hard to compare a PG with a 2. Pistol Pete averaged over 40 game in college. As a scorer and dribbler,he has few peers. He was electrifying.

  • no shot nash better than pistol

  • Nash-great

    Pistol Pete-greatest

  • Guys come on saying that a guy can be a good play if his team didn't do well is like saying Barry sanders was a crappy running back.

  • The pistol takes this one hands down. He IMO was the Barry sanders of Basketball who was the best player but didn't have a team to back him up. This is a man who scored 68 points in one game with not 3 point line give him the line and it would have been 80. He also didn't even get to play the whole game because he fouled out on a BS charging call. Pistol had better passing abilities and ball handling as well. He did stuff with the ball that no one else ever could.

  • @USPSAman

And he lit up Walt Frazier for most of the first half. That's like dropping 40 on Gary Payton in his prime. Pete was absolutely unique. No one like before him; no like him after.

  • @USPSAman acually it averaged about like 90 lol which is amzing have you seen the movie?

  • @USPSAman Barry Sanders plays in a sport where one man has minimal impact. TMAC had better sucess than Pistol

  • Wow I wonder whos idea it was for Kanye West to sample Kid CHarlemane from Steely Dan because I seriously doubt he listens to them.

  • Steve Nash rocks

  • Pistol scored 3600 pts in 3 years of college play in 83 games for a 3 year career. Noone comes close. They didnt make the tourney because others around him werent good enough. Hey Shaqs team never made it past second round with LSU with Chris Jackson Singelton and Robinson. It has no reflection on the player himself as a player. He was before his time. He was a 5 time NBA allstar holds 3 NBA records. Scored 68 pts as a guard with no 3 pt line. Arther you are ignorant.

  • pistol scored all thoese points because he shot so damn much. he easily shot more then anyone else in basketball history.

to say that a teams record doesn't show anything about their star is ignorant. in basketball the greats make their team good. period..look at basketball history sometime.

shaqs teams always had very good records..don't compare him to gunner pete. lanier at the same time was surrounded by a weak team at st bona and went to the final 4thats what great players do.

  • 5 time nba all star, and you are trying to turn that into one of th greates ever..a ton of players made the all start team 5 times.. great basketball players make their team good..period..to deny it shows total ignorance of basketball.

the game is played to win. not pass behind the back and have an awful t.o to assist ratio.

pete was the most most overared player ever easily, he impressed people who don't understand basketball.

  • To call him overrated is plain stupid. He changed the freaking way the game was played starting in 59'. They thought he played too much like "the colored teams" flashy. Now all of basketball is played that way he saw the future of basketball and played that way. Quit Hatin and wise up! Pete was about scoring not flash and thats what he did, scored.

  • i don't give a crap if he changed the way the game is played. he was a loser..plain and simple. if poeple behind him play like he did bu have value to a team fine..maravich had no value to a basketball team..just impressed guys who don't know jac about basketball.

  • Pistol Pete is a legend to all who understand the history of basketball. - Jason Kidd

"Ive got a lot of Pistol Pete in my game" - Steve Nash

  • in college bird had nobody around him, his team went underfeated until the final game..thats a great player...he wasn't about flash, and individual stats like pete..why is this hard to understand for you.

  • No your saying if the teams no good the star is no good. I say wrong. Theres tons of examples of hall of famers whos teams sucked. Dr J lost 6 championships to the Bulls does he suck is he overated?? Well he wasnt a champion those years??? He played on a 0 and 14 team when they brought him there and he single handedly gave them their first win. Thats contributing. Im only refuting your assertions that he is overrated and did nothing. By pointing out all star and NBA records.

  • Dr J retired before the bulls won their first just to let you know

  • Sorry I was replying to 6 of arthers posts in a row and typing and thinking quickly, I totally meant Magic Johnson.

  • to bring magic into it is ridiculous..magic won 5 nba ttiles, and i college titles. he also led his team to a good record every year he ever played basketball..why would you compare maravich to him..

in maaviches first 2 years in college his teams went 13-13 and 14-12..if he was a great player his teams should challenge.. great players makde their teams good..period..pete was overrated, just a guy who shot alot and tried some fanty passes..which is why his to to assist ratio was crap.

  • I was using magic to show your faulty logic because he also lost many championships. To show how ridiculous your logic is. Bottom line according to the pros, which you are not, he is a legend respected by all of them Kobe Magic. Your the only moron hatin. He was 6th in the NBA in the 73 74 season for assists. According to his NBA Bio he turned the hawks from a 36-46 team to a 46-36 team who took Boston to 6 games before falling out. Im done with you, wise up hater and respect the greatness.

  • you are ridiculous for thinking you made a poin with the magic argument. pete didn't even come close to winning a title, not in cllege and not in pro..period..he was a loser who shot alot..thats a fact.

so you are claiming he was great because he was 6th in assiats one year..oh brother.

wrong..maravich went to a hawk team that had one of the best records in the league..they went backwards with him..look it up.

  • You can't win an NBA title all by yourself. Magic couldn't have done it without the help of Kareem Abdul-Jabbar or James Worthy. Before Pete Maravich came into the league Atlanta Hawks played in the Western Conference and it was in the '70-'71 season (Maravich's rookie season) that they were moved in the Eastern Conference wich was tougher back then since

  • you had teams like the NY Knicks (the defending champions) or the Celtics, the 76ers even the Bullets were a pretty good team with Wes and Earl; in a sense that there were more teams equally valued, the West back then was all about Milwaukee and Lakers and this would possibly explain their downfall.

  • @tfonz71 He(Dr J)won a Championship also

  • @11makujump My dr J comment was meant to say Majic because he lost many championships and by arthers logic he used that means he was no good.

  • @tfonz71 you also have to take into consideration, that Dr J played alot of years in the CBA,before he went to the NBA.

So just imagin,if he would have went straight to the NBA,he might of won more championsips

  • @arther1045 Every player you pointed out had other great players on their teams when they won the tites, magic had worthy, jabbar, scott and others, and shaq had kobe who is one of the greatest ever. Who did Pete ever play with in college or the pros that was a all-time great??

  • again why are we even talking about titles. Pete's teams were never good period. I don't care who he played with. If you are supposed to be one of the greatest, you can't play for losing teams all the time. He started with a Hawks team that won the west the year before he arrived. they went downhill with him..

  • @arther1045 im just now reading this but you are right. id like to see pete play in a professional system today. there is no point in arguing with these people because they are all clearly from louisiana and if you have ever hung around a cajun you know they have to have the last say in everything

  • @hazmat1000 no damn body!!!!! Its a sad story when somebody of his ability doesnt have teammates on his level!! Thats a factor when it comes to winnin/losin games in the NBA

  • who's the rap group sampling the dan here?

  • maraviches to to assists ratio was awful..he was all about fluff..he had little value to a basketball team. his college team never even made the tourny..stop building up a guy who was nothing but silly hype.

  • He averaged 356 AST per season thats on par with Kobe and the like its actually exactly the same as Kobe. You really dont know what you are talking about.

  • pete is in the top 5 guards of all time, of course he is better than nash

  • please..maravich in the top 5..give me a break. nash won a few mvps, all nba first team numerous times, and always made his team good.

maravich never wion and mvp, was only named nba first team once or twice, and he wasn't good enough to make his teams good. he was a nice freak show, but not even close to a great player..the goal of basketball is to win, not make hot dog plays..god i get sick of the maravich hype..its ignorant.

  • Song of the video?

  • Pistol Pete is the 3rd best basketball player ever

  • 3rd???????????????????? who could you say is clearly a better player then him and when i mean player i mean individual stats

  • Maravich vs. Nash?

You're kidding, right.. Nash was a damn soccer player....

No one like Maravich. Not before. Not now.

  • hell ya true that

  • versus? no contest.

Pistol Pete is still one of the best playmakers, if not the best.

But i think that Nash is the newer version of Pistol Pete.. Pretty similar playing style.

    R.I.P Pete.

  • Pete could do things with the ball that no one will ever do again. Not only was he an exceptional ball handler and passer, but one of the greatest scorers in history.

  • agree with olg06

  • Nash is no Pistol Pete... But he is the closest to Pete at this generation.

  • Thats what I hate about him, he was something special when he first came into the league, then he "sold out" and became just another guy. I was such a huge fan of his at first.

  • I'd argue jason williams(although he was a pretty terrible shooter)

  • please nash is a proven winner rubio is a flashy guy yes...nash no championship yes but I take nash, stockton, and kidd before him run an nba team through a whole season and yes I give respect

  • apples and oranges - nash is a great player with

SOME flair, but pete was a joy to watch. i'd rather

watch maravich than anybody with 10 rings!

    World b. free also!

  • Steve Nash is good but he's no Pistol Pete.

  • On every video of pistol there are like 5 comments about how he was "ahead of his time". That's like saying a football player from the 70's is ahead of his time because he can run faster then everyone else. I don't get it. He's damn good, don't get me wrong, but I just don't agree with that statement.

  • Pete was doing things in the1960's and 1970's that didn't become normal until the 1980's and 1990's when Jordan started playing.

  • @dfm1981 still doesnt come normal for a lot of nba players in today

  • @dfm1981 fuck ol jordan

  • @dfm1981 also, if any of you just watch the pete marovich drills, you can find them to the left, you can see he's a dribbling machine. It's in his blood. Nash- great dribbler- but don't forget Soccer was his game...... Pistol Pete grew up doing nothing but bball dribbling drills... hours a day. like i said, watch his drills... HE IS A MACHINE.

My point is, nash is a great dribbler, but a machine is perfect.

Now, who's a better player? I have no opinion.

  • Things like speed are always a part of sports, no matter when you play. The reason pistol's considered ahead of his time is because everything he did was essentially the original and prototype play for the sport. If you watch other clips from the 60s and 70s you'll see that almost no one even tried to do the things he did and no one did them as well as he did. I'm not old enough to have seen him play live, but he singe-handedly sold out stadiums when he came to play there and his fans loved him.

  • The biggest difference between Nash and Maravich is that Nash was fortunate enough to play in the "seven seconds or less" system in Phoenix, a style that was perfect for him. Maravich never really had that ... when he came into the NBA it was with the Atlanta Hawks, whose coach (Butch von Breda Kolff) hated that style of play. Just imagine what might have happened had Mike D'Antoni and Pistol ever been able to hook up.
