They showed this movie on PBS (WNET/Thirteen) in my area in December. It was so beautiful and so moving. Both Netrebko and Villazon, and really everyone in the cast were wonderful. I do hope they'll show it again.
i saw this film in the cinema, and in the end everyone was crying... this was so beautiful and so sad... I think i have never seen a better version of this opera
As a lover of great music, and as a man of compassion, I've learned to take "bashers" who dismiss artists as "crap" as people who tell far more about themselves than they do the artists they slam. People like this do nothing to foster a love for opera, or for classical music in general. Villazon was an excellent tenor who ran into vocal difficulties. Hopefully, he's on his way back to his career. I find such disparaging comments to be disrespectful, devoid of compassion, and plain stupid.
I just saw it in a theater. Crisp film, good voices (but then, that could be studio assist). A credible Paris. Some weird camera shots where she's singing and you're seeing his reaction, not her. They must have done Act III in one take because her mascara gets smeared and stays that way. But altogether a nice version. I've never seen or heard Villazon perform before; he looked a lot less healthy than she did.

Wow, such magic, such beauty, and wonderful chemistry. I am truly mesmerised. La Boheme is my favourite opera (or at least one of) and Musetta's Waltz is my most favourite aria on this earth. This looks amazing, I can't wait to see it....
There're some arrogant, envious losers in YT who can not put up with AN's talent and success. They' banish her here and there diging up technique"flaws" in her singing. They give permanent negative comments and ratings on every AN's pages. You're right - MORONS! Anna is GREAT!
My apologies--I gave the wrong answer to annebeeluverbug. I was thinking of "La Traviatta" when I wrote my comment. In "La Boheme", Mimi dies of tuberculosis.
Violetta is dying of tuberculosis. In a nutshell, Germont, Sr. is against the relationship between Violetta and his son Germont, Jr. and talks him out of it through various machinations. At the end, he realizes that he shouldn't stand in the way of love, and the young people reunite but Violetta is deathly ill and passes away.
RENT!

This actually looks really cool! A little hammy, perhaps, but it's cool to see an opera getting a big-screen treatment.
Most opera films are shot on paltry budgets with incompetent, unimaginative directors. I hope I'll get a chance to see this.

"O soave fanciulla" That's the name of the song, it's amazing isn't it? By Puccini, but you must already know that.
