It's a framerate issue. Samus's sprite is flickering on-and-off every frame, but on YouTube the framerate is cut in half, so you're only seeing the frames where the sprite is "off". Hope that makes sense :P

I don't have this game. Why are there random statues holding powerups for samus' suit on an alien planet?

What the heck was he doing around :55 or so? I guess he or the bot got bored? Just lay some bombs, shoot a couple wave beams... just do something until you can speed dash... I guess.

Well the purpose of TASes is to entertain, not just to beat the game as fast as possible. Just standing around waiting isn't very exciting :P
