@MattBL - so what you're saying is that they announced the "stars" of STARCRASH incorrectly? If you go to IMDB it lists the movie as 1978 directed by Luigi Cozzi starring; Marjoe Gortner, Christopher Plummer, Caroline Munro and David Hasslehoff. So I am not quite sure what the point of your comment is?
If I had to pick my favorite ending dance, even though it's not representative of my opinion of my show as a whole...I'd honestly have to say the final ending dance was my favorite. Despite the rather blatant ripoff of many of the "Thriller" dance moves, all the dancers move in sync with one another and the freestyle toward the end where they're all writhing around, I have to say that was very impressive.
ive never really been a big fan of darcels dancing, but in the earlier seasons somebody needed to watch her lines.......she was all over her area.......great video tho'......i didnt realize it took pam so many seasons to get up front......
Well it didn't take too long. . .she was up front with Darcel for 1/2 the dance during the 1st season. and for a BRIEF period she was over with Alex (where Tony and Deborah usually were) during season 3. Other than that she was usually 2nd row and stage left of Darcel.
I think the only time she was ever actually in front of Darcel during ending dance was during season 5 just after Darcel's return.
I think the best ending music was the second go around with Dionne Warwick - too bad Rick Dees didn't host the sucky 1986-88 years instead of sticking Marilyn McCoo into all of that mess - she was too classy of a lady to host that (crap!) As for Dees, it would have fit him PERFECTLY!
a nice compilation, the quality is great, the magic is from the first seasonuntil solid gold 1985-1986, sorry for the others seasons I really love all the work of anita mann and the generation of darcel, pam, kahea, nicole, deborah, gayle, mark, cooley, beverly those were the seasons that all of us loved
It sure did. And Lester didn't have any style or talent so he diluted the closing dance to a fancy walk. *Yawn* to just wave/bounce up and down and smile to the camera.
Sadly, no work due to economic crisis. Keep posting. The SG Hits dance is fantastic, and that was the longest version I had ever seen. I had to replay it a couple of times to be impressed for each move. Thanks for inserting it in the compilation.
I really like the SG Hits number. And amazingly enough a 3rd choreographer who had his "own take" on Solid Gold, but made it work and look quite fresh while staying true to what SOLID GOLD was. I just think they could've done without Cooley.
Because of the time it was on here (like 11 PM) I couldn't really watch it. So it was the one ending I never learned all the way through. But I had seasons 1 through 6 down.
A portion of the season 6 dance was the one we learned at the open call auction during the summer of 1985 only we learned it to "New Attitude" by Patti LaBelle.
RIP announcers Robert W. Morgan & Charlie O'Donnell, as well as host Andy Gibb!

I just realized during the Rick Dees season (bc he didn't sing) that Darcel is credited in the credits with "Principal Dancer". Hmmm...

On Themes ranking:
I Liked seasons 3 & 7 as my favorites.
Then season 4, 6, 5, 1 and
season 2 is my least favorite.
SG Hits doesn't count, it didn't have any lyrics but its mostly associated with season 4.
I want you opinions, let me know what's your favorite and least favorite. I been having a debate about this for about a week.

Contestants on SG Hits? Did they have a game show segment or something like that?
palmercomm 2 years ago
You know, I have no clue. I just read that "Contestant Coordinator" and "Contestant Producer" titles in the credits.
Hmmmm, anyone know???
lbCharmed1 2 years ago
yes, they had a game where they had to name tunes in a time limit. 30 seconds if my memory is correct.

Thank you for that. It means A LOT!

No Problem, I guess I watched too much TV when I was a "kid"!!!

Which 11 Alive is mentioned in the first part? The one in Atlanta?

I believe it's a NY Affiliate that is referenced.

Great compilation.
SG '87 really stunk. They were too cheap to do the end dance each episode and ended up showing the same one over and over again.
shphf 3 years ago
It was understandable with SG Hits as it was on every day, but you're right about SG '87, that shoot once replay every week was BUNK!!
