does iLife come with a MacBook Pro because I plan on buying a MacBook Pro this summer and it says that I can buy it with iWork and it has no option to chose iLife
$2,800 for a damn computer!!!! that in two years wont be worth it!!!! OMG! what the hell are all these people smoking! and how could people buy such things in these hard times!!!
Often, computers aren't toys. Many people, myself included, make their living by using a computer. If that is your career, then why not pay $2,800 to use the tools you want to use?
1. You can't yet compare PC hardware and MAC hardware side by side. 2GHz CPU on PC does not perform the same as a 2GHz CPU on a MAC. Hardware is just one side of it and is only as good as the software that interacts with it.
2. The guy said 256Mbps songs lol. He meant 256Kbps
Why are there so many people going on about PCs on here?! Macs are far better, and no matter how much memory it's got, no matter how powerful the video card is, or how big the hard drive, PC = FAIL. Windows sucks. It crashes often and it's clunky and clumsy.
As both a mac and PC user I have to defend the fact that Windows is a superb OS given that you dont have many third party apps running. A simply trip to msconfig fixes most of my friends computers actually.
For viruses, I've found the most efficient method to not worry about them is to avoid clicking on every porn pop-up i get.
Apple is like BMW and PC is like the rest of the industry- you can get anything from a Saturn (budget PC) to a Porsche (gaming pc)
look having 4 gigs on a mac is like having 10 gigs on a laptop pc with windows vista...simply because the same people that make the hardware ALSO make the operating system !!! you know what that means ? that the applications running use 100% of the system resources with no glitch !
Apply hardly "makes" the hardware. The processor is intel and the gpu is either nvidia or AMD. The northbridges and southbridges are technically carbon-copies of PC motherboard OEMs.
Numerous owners of brand new 17-inch MacBook Pro are complaining that their video cards or perhaps notebooks are failing. The new $2,799 MacBook, which was debuted in January at Macworld, features both GeForce 9600M and GeForce 9400M mobile graphics cards from NVIDIA. Owners are now reporting that their laptops have started to show random green lines, artifacts on the display, blank screens and a certain symptom for failing video card.
this laptop might not be pretty like a mac but it has a spectacular GPU. and read reviews from newegg. People play games with max quality at 1920x1080 resolution.
Anandtech shows that ATI 4870 x2 gets 35fps at 1920x1080 on VERY HIGH.
The majority of people who own Macs are probably more interested in doing work on it than gaming. The new MacBooks have a powerful enough graphics/video card that games run smoothly enough on them.
No the majority of people who buy macs are computer illiterate. That is why they overpay a computer 2X over that can't be upgraded and use a 1 button mouse.
Actually most of the Mac users & indeed Linux users i've met are more than computer literate, & know their way around Windows extremely well, they just prefer a different OS & aren't really into installing pretty flashing lights on their "rigs" & boasting about their 'Specs" online as if anyone really cares :)
wow, for $3200....what's the point of buying this? no bluray support and no gaming.
get ASUS W90Vp-X1
some features includes:
Intel T9600 @ 2.8ghz...overclockable to 4ghz, and most important...ATI 4870 X2....yes, finally comes in a laptop. 6gb of DDR2 ram, 320gb 7200rpm HD. 18.4in 1080p screen. All for $2200 from newegg. This to me is the ultimate laptop for really good price.
Besides all That: Apple has also made 8 million songs DRM free, and by the end of this quarter expects all 10 million songs on iTunes to be DRM free. Users who have DRM protected music can upgrade their songs to be DRM free, however, this will cost US$0.30 per track. The iTunes store has also been made available via 3G on the iPhone, rather than just through Wi-Fi.
whats weird is what apple wrote on their website: "a battery live of up to three times the normal laptop-up to 5 years" since when is the normal battery life of a laptop only 1.67 years?! my sisters is going on to a solid 4 years and still retains a charge almost like new.
if you got a mac between January 6th and march 28th and it didn't come with ilife 09 you can upgrade it for 9.95. other then that you gonna have to pay 79.95 for the new ilife &iwork. trust me i work at apple
I must point out that I think you are wrong here. Apple ONLY offers iLife as an upgrade. Why? Because EVERY mac comes with iLife. Since iLife 09 requires a certain spec of mac to run, and the minimum spec mac comes with a version of iLife, iLife is ALWAYS an upgrade. You could argue that you could format a mac and install OSX without iLife, but even Phil Schiller says in his keynote that iLife 09 is an "upgrade". (check ~46:00 in the keynote). The word 'upgrade' is also in the slide.
That might be the term Schiller used, but an upgrade usually implies a reduced price and that there is a "full price" version. There isn't. So I wouldn't call it an upgrade.
Good points as well, I suppose it could go either way in the case of iLife. Apple just basically likes simplicity in everything, so they try not to split up their software products with several versions. I guess we can agree that every version is BOTH an upgrade and a full version, depending on what it is installed over.
iLife '09 came at the wrong time >_>. I just bought my first Mac a couple days ago and then they come out with a new iLife. GREAT! Now, if I were to upgrade, it would cost me $99. Yeah thanks Apple Dx. I still love my Mac though... best OS and computer ever!
Do you think apple will announce a hardware upgrade to this iphone this year ( aside form more memory)? I will be able to get one in February but I'm worried a new version will come soon after i get mine.
Impossible to say. Haven't heard any rumors. You can always "wait for the next version." And then "wait for the next version" when that one comes too.
Most likely not. In the past OS X upgrades don't come with iLife. You have to buy the iLife upgrade. But now they are offering this new "Mac Box Set" which seems like an "upgrade everything" option. I'm sure that will come with Snow Leopard when it is released.
Gary, what do you know about Apple releasing Snow Leopard. I've read in a lot of places that it is rumored to be released Q1, but some still say it could be released late Q3 early Q4, do you know anything about this?
Apple's next OS (snow leopard) will support OpenCL, which will allow developers to use the GPU to accelerate some tasks. so for a professional, a faster GPU could help greatly in the future. Or they could just release a patch that allows for some form of Hybrid-SLI, that would also help.
Good roundup. I was a bit disappointed with the outcome of the keynote since I thought they may have released a new Mac Mini and an iMac with better specifications.
