@mountainbliss4u You're welcome! Sometimes it's even more of a delight if the elusive object really "hides" itself for a while! Happy to hear from you!
She is indeed exquisite....I recognise she adores what she does well and has suffered or she could not have expressed her art so well. Just singing notes is one thing Having a beautiful voice is another but putting your heart and soul into what you do is exceptional....I have fallen in love with her voice and shall use this to create my own artwork....she will live on in so many hearts. Thanks to you......
@Cardywhite111 I'm grateful to hear from you, and your comments are very apropos! Ms. Baker, though still very young here, had to have already experienced many difficulties in her life. Her voice and appearance are charming, and I'm elated to know what an incredible affect they've made! I'm looking forward to know what your artwork entails. Please keep me in mind! Thanks once more!
@Cardywhite111 What a lovely comment! Thank you so much. Some people are irreplaceable. I suggest she's one of them! You're both kind and knowledgeable!
Enchanting! She sings like a nightingale. And let us not forget her breathtaking beauty! She was refused service in a restaurant in NYC! I think it was Walter Winchell who came to her aid. Or was it Lena Horne or Dorothy Dandridge or Sammy Davis or.......... Most Black Americans in the twenties, left US and found they had more freedom in Europe and could make a living there as well! Particulary in France. From Bricktop (who owned a restaurant)to Louis Armstrong.
@early60srcool Thanks so very much for your learned comments! You were right the 1st time re Walter Winchell and the Stork Club. It was an issue with Ms. Baker that got very ugly, lawsuits, etc. Got some fascinating skinny on some of the "help" at Bricktop's nightclub. We'll talk...
@shanghaibenny2 benny, you're so right, as usual! It had to do with her having been snubbed at the "Stork Club" in Manhattan. I replied in an earlier post that the end result was really ugly; lawsuits, etc. The late gossip columnist, Walter Winchell, was at the apex of this situation. In those days one word from him could make or break a career. Thanks to much for writing!
