No, non, nein, heck no.... Leave the high notes to Pavarotti(God rest his soul), PLEASE. Preferably the high Bb... The first two guy's attacks were HORRIBLE (Compared to Pavarotti)!
Nah, Domingo is a class act - his voice was far more agile than Pavarotti's given their age here too - listen to Pav's cadenza from the 60s (there are recordings on YT) and listen to it here - very sloppy in comparison. Carreras... well, I never rated him anyway and he does himself no favours here either.
@tombaker1222 Older here Pavarotti than DOmingo and Carreras... sloppy may be because orquesta had to low the key for mr DOmingo and Carreras could get read faces singing an A instead a natural B.
@aguacun Transposing the music would have no effect on vocal agility or ability. If as you say it's been taken down to an A natural then that's only 1 tone down so not "low" for a tenor voice.
@tombaker1222 Transpossing down for a tenor like Pavarotti, Kraus, etc, could make difference to the sound... I hardly belive this is why orchestras nowdays have a few tones up their pitch compared with orchestras from the past (century 19th I guess). Besides, I think Pavarotti went down because he was not in good health. I mean... he was very fat for long time and that must have consecuences physically and psychologically. His body couldn´t support his voice anymore.
P.D. If you have ever sing, you will notices that singing a song or aria lower will make you not be at all comfortable...may be just in high notes but you may feel, of course depending on what aria or song is, a bit heavier the voice. Once I sung UN aura amorosa in a lower tone because the piano was in that way and, belive me, you can notice the difference inside and outside.
@aguacun I appreciate what you're saying and of course you're right, transposing down for any singer changes the timbre of the voice - particularly for a tenor where it becomes much darker and broader. However with this aria as a case in point, it is only a semitone down, so I don't believe that any shortcomings can be blamed on the pitch of the music. I'm not sure about orchestras 'toning up' because of this either - given most of the music was written well before that.
@aguacun Also the idea of Pavarotti's body and voice becoming unsettled is also wrong, because the two are interconnected. I think essentially it was just old age - bearing in mind he was in his prime in the 60s and 70s, he does well here, as I say, just sloppy on the cadenza because his voice had lost a little definition. His body obviously could support his voice or he wouldn't have sang the Bb at the end - you can't sing that without your body working as well as your voice.
Thank you for sharing such wonderful tenores. They're exactly great musicians forever! Nowadays there's a newer version by russian singer - Vitas who sings this song very wonderful, too. Hope you'll like and enjoy his voice. " Vitas - La Donna Mobile " :)))
Considering the fact that MIngo and Carreras never had a convincing B even in their youth, I wouldn't be surprised if they've transposed it down. Pava could sing a Bb with ease well into his early 60s.
Even in this condition,Lucianos' voice is so much freer and has those resonances that both Domingo and Carreras lack.

Truly amazing. It's really a shame that Pavarotti died. He had such a great voice, even in his old age. By the way, what year was this?

Half tone?? What the hell is that? Know what you're talking about before you come here spewing shit.

Before write this ugly words, check the key they are singing. And compare with original.

Correct, then it would be a half-step, not a half tone.
