  • Rick ross

  • Cindy is so sweet in this song. I wonder what she's up to lately?

  • John has been killing it for so long now it's just fantastic. He is a super under valued American musician. Thanks for all the great music and keep it up Mr D!

  • romantic!! excellent song!!!

  • This man is so talented his turds paint masterpieces.

And if you ever me him, he is the nicest guy in the world.

Godspeed John, please keep doing what you do.

  • beer gas ride forever

  • I still contend: John Doe is on the (very) short list of greatest rock singers of the past thirty years. Listen to the songs on "Los Angeles" and "Wild Gift" and the myriad of solo stuff he's done (Knitters, stuff with the Blasters, etc.) A voice that begs to be heard. His harmonic sense is uncanny -- especially with Exene. It's a crime he's not talked about in the same breath as Chris Cornell or Eddie Vedder.

  • this is no fucking eddie vedder mix

  • @alfonso831 doesn't need to be, there's room for everyone

  • nice warm relaxed version, intimate - john doe thanks for everything

  • Hi Ray Holtz. Perhaps you are her new boyfriend, good luck to you. There was a time when JD was a god. Unfortunately, CW brings JD's work 6 feet under.

  • Is this the best song ever? Or what?

  • one of the best songs i've heard

  • I am in love with this song... I wish he would come to Lethbridge =(

  • We are luck

    We are fate

We are the feeling you get in the golden state

    We are love

    We are hate

We are the feeling I get when you walk away.

  • @gebandnutforever I'd like to hear who you think isn't boring and who you think is good...I'm sure to me they'll probably be totally boring.

  • One of my favourite songs!!

  • This kinda reminds me of John Prines song In Spite of Ourselves. His duet with Iris Dement. Just a little, though

  • One of my all time favorite albums.....this is so beautiful........many thanks John.....and Cindy!

  • Amazing xxx

  • Takes me back to my first love :)

  • love this song!!!!

a year in the wilderness is fucking brilliant.

  • I could watch this clip over and over. Everything John does is just amazing. Cindy sounds great here too. Such a beautiful song. Such a great performance.

  • vedder plays this song lets see it

  • This song was on an episode of "life" the other night

  • yes, it was!!!!

I Love Crews/Reese and I love this song! (GO "Mr Parker", GO!! ;P)

  • this is one of the most romantic songs ever!

  • girl sings fine. go off and screw.

  • lol

  • It is impossible to overstate what this man's music has meant to me. In the depths of my loneliness, this voice kept me company. I first saw X in 1987 and then saw John Doe at McCabe's Guitar Shop (Santa Monica) countless times. His solo albums are fantastic. Now I sing his songs to my children as they fall asleep at night. What a catalog of music and what a treasure of words and emotions. This man was alt country long before they had a name (cowpunk?). No labels and no boundaries.

  • Same here except since 1980. His music has always meant allot to me.

  • I feel the same way autismpete feels, great song, glad it was on my Zune!

  • me too!

  • it's definitely a golden state song. an adult version of francesca lia block's witchbaby novels - a celebration of everything the city of angels stands for. magical realism at its best in describing "l.a." love.

  • I am SO glad this song was included with my Microsoft Zune, or else I would've NEVER heard this song!! Awesome song!! :)

  • a song I CANNOT get outa my head, which is a good thing this time around

  • That is simply too good.

  • nice

  • I've seen X live 5 times and John solo 3 times. I'll always be a fan!

  • This will become a classic. The entire album is fantastic.

  • Timeless. Already a classic. Even my 22 month old son snaps claps and holds his head neck throat and heart while listening to this song.

  • Great American.

  • This really builds into a great, almost mesmerizing groove! -J.J.

  • i like John Doe

  • This is great-so is the album.Buy it!!

  • Just heard this on radio in the uk I love this song. Don't know how old it is, but if it's new hope it's a big hit.

  • stamplehoof: John will be at The Troubadour London on Sept. 13, and at End Of The Road festival in Dorset the following night. Hope that you can catch one of those shows.

  • I just heard this myself on NPR's California Edition and I sure relate to the hole in my head! Perfect followup to listening to Eddie Vedder's new Ukulele Songs which can be experienced in its entirety at NPRMusic.org

  • Just saw JD with Dead Rock West in N.C. Rocked the house!!!

  • Me too. What a great show. And what a nice guy to hang out after the show. Loved it.

  • John is a legend. Thanks for posting this one. I wish he would tour in Australia !

  • Something about his voice sends a shiver down my spine, all right!

  • Everytime I listen to JD I want to move back tome to the Golden State.

  • I just got home from John's gig at the 8 x 10 in Baltimore, Md....He absolutely kicked ass!!! And the version he did of this spectacular song was awesome...it actually gave me chills. As long as he's been around and he's still putting out albums that contain stuff that's as good as anything he's ever put out...that says a lot!

  • He is playing a local venue in my hometown in a few days, but i can't make it. I really wish i could

  • does anyone know if theres a higher quality version anywhere, love john doe, what a voice, hes recordings dont lie, voice sounds just as awesome live

  • Ah yes, I love X so much, and John certainly hasn't gone downhill at all... I can't wait to get a copy of this album.

  • John Doe's simply the finest singer/songwriter in 3 decades. There's Dylan's early work and Mitchell's "Blue," but I can't think of anything else that compares. And, I think John still appreciates, if not loves, Los Angeles which means alot to me. John hasn't forgot the food on Olvera St, or the beauty of the Watts Tower, or the lavender jacaranda trees in May...it's the feeling you get in the golden state...

    Thanks John

    gt

  • Yes, John still appreciates the golden state in all its paradoxical beauty. I agree that John Doe may indeed be the best of the last three decades. An astounding catalog, a gorgeous voice, and one hell of a kind soul. We are in total agreement, comrade.
