@scorpiosrevenge engine was made bigger to increase the torque with revs being reduced inline with expected lower end torque figures. power output is still the same between ap1 & ap2. If you own a honda, you shouldn't care about torque
It's so funny to hear the tokyo drift song come on, I couldn't help but laugh when it started up. A few friends of mine and I went through an import phase. Our posse consisted of a Sentra SE-R, 240sx, integra, and I had an ap1. Tokyo Drift was our theme song. We never didn't really take it too seriously tho, just for fun.
lol i dont see where Ap1 owners have any reason to bitch about VSA in the AP2. It can be disabled with the push of a button at any moment you wish and you dont have to worry about wrapping yourself round a tree when it rains. The decrese in redline actually helps you get into vtec faster and it gives it slightly more torque. There is no skirt on the AP2 its still the same beast the AP1 is, it just drives a bit different.
@mucura1 i agree lol.....i have an ap1 and i would not see a thing wrong with the push of a button keeping VSA on or off...the only diff is 8 or 9 k...and that is by person...its not like i spend all day in vtec anyways...both are nice cars, nuff said.
How is ap2 worse than ap1? All I see is a more street tuned car that still has unbelievable performance. The balance of the ap1 is very nuetral which is good for a race car but no so much for a street car. With the ap2, Honda engineered the s2k to have mild understeer at the limit, but still capable of oversteer if you really want it. The bigger engine also makes it easier to power out of low speed corners. I like both cars and really have no preference but softer doesn't always equal worse

AP2 -> fail. the new staff an honda has no balls. they gave in to idiot's nagging about low-rev-torque. this is not the car to have tons of it! the purpose of S2000 was an unmatched, neutral handling and crazy agility. and now AP2 disgraced that name
KILLUAXIII---- Excellent point.. Finally..someone sees the the real deal between the AP1 and AP2..most people just don't know. Honda RUINED the S2000 when they added fagged out VSA, changed their suspensions to make them softer PLUS decreased the redline-- Took a pure track car and put a skirt on it... ill stick with My Ap1.

@KilluaXIII have you ever even owned both? i have and the differences are not miles apart. The AP2 and AP1 have almost identical track and drag times depending on the driver. They just feel different when you drive but performance is about the same.
they made the 2.2 L for two reasons. 1. better reliablility, and 2. for better driveability (more power at lower rpms.). and of course the ap2 is newer

ap2 = better setup for track, the major changes was not the engine but its ability to handle better, and not as twitchy on the limit

I was planning to get a 2002 AP1 as well. I was just wondering if I should go for the 2002 for 9000rpm... or AP2 for lower RPM?
