  • A very nice Magnavox. But this model wasn't there top-of-the-line model for 1958. The "Concert Grand" was. I have one and there rarer then hen's teeth. The next price level down is your model. Yours looks very nice and well cared for. These are getting harder to find now. As the "Astro Sonics" came out in the early 60's. A lot of people traded them in for the newer Magnavox's. Make sure you play it at least once a month. As it's not good to let a tube set sit without playing it.

  • That is one amazing unit.

  • Wow, I didn't know Magnavox made such high-end equipment. That power amp is near superb. The 15" woofer with those 2 horn tweeters look like theatre quality. Do you have the extra matching speaker cabinet? I wish I was around in the 50's and I was in the family who had that piece in their living room with speakers throughout the house. I love the 50's.

  • I recently brought a 155B back to life, had all the tubes tested with a punch card operated machine.

and whooo boy, AM stations have never sounded better! i mean jezz, im used to AM stations sounding like crap, but on the 155B it sounds great. it sounds full and rich sounding, while the modern radio at the place i work at just sounds awefull, its all hollow and lifeless. I can see why people prefer tubes, they are more true to the sounds waveform because theyre not digital.

  • What are the caps that everyone talks about replacing? I am totally new to this. I have a Magnavox 152B that i just got going again. Thanks

  • WOW....does that set bring back memories. My uncle has the identical magnavox. I can remember as a kid, the floor shaking from the bass output of the woofer. Just blew me away! Uncle told me that he had to watch the volume level, or the bass would shake the walls down. I believe him!!! To this day I swear I have never heard any modern audio setup that even came close to matching the quality of sound that unit produced. Solid state is suppose to be better, but that tube amp blows them away, IMO.

  • That is one sweet unit.

I know it will sound terrific once restored.

  • Wow! That's a great find. The cabinet looks perfect too. Can't wait to hear it when restored. Mine didn't have any black beauties in the amp. What size fuse do you recommend putting in the power cord? I'm gonna need to replace my cord soon, and want to put a fuse in it when I do.

  • crossovers built in to the power amp? way ahead of its time great amp. bet that can thump some base keep the kids away from it LOL

  • I think there's a good chance you'll have a window-rattler with that amp alone!

  • Beautiful set! The changer appears to be a couple of months older than mines because of the drop feeler. Can't wait to fix mines and I would love to get a matching extension speaker for mines too. Nice score!

  • superbe meuble stereo en tres bon etat ici nous avons des grundig philips etccc.....merci pour la video

  • Super! What a wonderful find!

  • Congradulations, Chad. That's a really nice unit. I think the Imperials were the high end models in the Magnavox line.

  • That is going to sound like heaven, I'll bet!

  • "Oh you, doing that thing you do"... You got that song stuck in my head now! lol

And that is one beautiful stereo console. I love all the wood work on it. And it looks immaculate!

  • What a stunningly beautiful beast that Magnavox is. I cant believe the condition of it. Well done Chad, you must have been pretty chuffed picking that up! Did you get the extra speaker cabinet as well? Cant wait to see it in action, I reckon it will have amazing sound quality when the amp is restored.

  • Thanks! They actually did not have the other cabinet at the house (maybe they never had it?) They had the output from the other stereo channel running to cables which led to other speakers in the house.

It actually was not terribly heavy once the amp was removed because it looks like it was made with real hardwood plywood and veneers...no particleboard at all. Cabinets which are made of particleboard seem twice as heavy as real wood!

  • MDF (particleboard) is denser than wood so it is heavier.
