I thought it was CRUEL back then but I was young and did not know what to do as we were passing through. I have always wondered about those tigers sense then. This is only about Tony as long as Tony is an exhibit piece making money for the truck stop...there is no other reason to keep the animal there. If he were "family" as the hecklers suggest, they would see to it that the tiger recieved better accomodations and was in an area away from the noise. It would be one thing if Tony was not being kept in a tiny cage with concrete floors. If they were taking CARE of him, you know, like a "family member" should be taken care of, this wouldn't be such a concern. But they're not. Good luck Sky, and the rest of you there working to do the right thing for Tony.Just after a tiger 'show' came to the closest town in my area (BC, Canada), for photos with kids and claimed to be for educational purposes, we passed a blyaw prohibiting exotics in our region. The next year the same owner's girlfriend was fatally mauled by another one of their tiger'pets'. Tragically, that tiger also died since it was put down as a result. Keep up the good fight for Tony! This is only about Tony as long as Tony is an exhibit piece making money for the truck stop...there is no other reason to keep the animal there. If he were "family" as the hecklers suggest, they would see to it that the tiger recieved better accomodations and was in an area away from the noise. Instead, they keep him in a cage where he can be readily seen and if they need to post a "Do not throw rocks" sign, obviously the tiger is not in a healthy location.

Better than starving to death. If the tiger didn't like his handlers, he woudl have long ago attacked somebody. Just leave the tiger alone, or start removing the poor dogs and cats that are forced to live vegitarian lifestyles that are cruel and unnatural to them.

He can't attack anyone because more than half the time he's stuck inside a damned SMALL, HOT concrete cage, without access to Water OR Grass! Would YOU want to live like that? Yeah, he's a 'family member!' It would be one thing if Tony was not being kept in a tiny cage with concrete floors. If they were taking CARE of him, you know, like a "family member" should be taken care of, this wouldn't be such a concern. But they're not. If you kept a child in a cage like that, that would be grounds to get the child taken away from you. Why should a tiger be any different? You can't sit there and cry about how unfair it is when you weren't willing to step up and do the right thing.

Tony's current caretakers are defensive, ignorant, and misguided. Educate them.
Maybe offer them a free tour of BCR. Show them videos of your cats getting enrichments (pumpkins, cow heads, etc.). How could they then say that Tony is better off in a cement cage than in one of your comfy enclosures?
If they truly consider Tony a "family member, they'll do right by their "loved one."

what a bunch of ignorant selfish people cant they see that the tiger doesnt belong there but belong at big cat rescue where he has a place to roam free good living conditions and good caretakers he wont be treated like some piece of meat at at truck stop suffering in a cement cage thats no life for a tiger as beautiful as that . big cat rescue is doing a great thing taking a stand for tony and they are going bring him home GO BIG CAT RESCUE WE CAN DO IT !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

This is very sad for so many reasons. Look at the mentality of those trying to keep "Tony." Going out on a limb.. but maybe they are projecting a little too much onto this tiger being their family or friend. It is a tiger that deserves as much space, proper diet, enrichment, and quiet time away from a truck stop that he can get. Big Cat Rescue will provide that to him and more. Sad thing is that this is only one story of the many, many, many captive tigers in bad situations here in the US.

Its sad, it sounds like they love the Tiger, but they just don't understand that Tigers are NOT pets and if they really wanted the best for the Tiger they would allow Tony to come to big cat rescue.

if the woman said that an endangered tiger is not family and that tigers are not pets... then why does the truck stop have a "pet" tiger? Of course they could argue Tony is not a "pet" but more of an advertising symbol... he is still locked in a cage being care for by someone therefore he is in some way a "pet" to the truck stop. He needs to go to Big Cat Rescue before something happens to him.

People who try and keep Big cats such as lions, tigers, jags and leopards are nutts! They have a God complex and want to own something very powerful. It is so dangerous to the surrounding community for a regular person to keep a big cat. So many things could go wrong. A cat could get out and kill a child. It is just not worth the risk. Every state should make laws against owning cats over 50lbs
not to mention they rarely have enclosures suitable for these beauties.

Supposedly ALL of the truckstop employees have been 'trained' to handle any situation IF Tony were to get out - with shooting skills to handle the tranquilizer! Yeah, right. I don't believe it, but it's required by law . . .
