Is he singing forgive us for Hiroshima????? Are you fucking serious?! There would have been no A-Bomb dropped had the Japanese not attacked Pearl Harbor. What a fuckin' disgrace!!!!
@cashewedalmonds Regardless of your moronic assumption, the Japanese DID still attack the USA and were given several chances to surrender(which would have saved thousands of lives) but chose not to. The USA in turn, dropped two A-bombs to end the war.Do YOUR homework fag.
@standtall67 Actually, the Japs attacked the U.S. because "we" froze their assets here in the states. They were nothing more that a testing ground for the bomb...the second bomb was simply to punish them for their own imperialistic agenda in the South Pacific,...not to end the war; "We" didn't know how effective the "little boy" would be.
@SHyoh you need to do some research about the American POW's (the few that survived) that were held by the Jap's. Less American's and Jap's died as a result of ending the war.

At the time America was an ' isolationist' country. We wanted nothing to do with WWII. Then Japan declared war on us and about and hour later they attacked Pearl Harbor killing almost 3000 American soldiers. It started on Dec 7th with a sneak attack and endeded with Hiroshima and Nagasaki. I had grandparents that still had ill feelings toward Japan 50 years later for the suprise attack on America.

Don't forget old man Joe Kennedy. He vouced for Hitler and said Hitler would leave England alone and we should stay out of Europe and WWii. Why doesnt Japan apologize for the sneak attack and declaring war on US!!!
i saw yngwie twice when i was a teenager he could do van halens eruption with one hand then toss a stratocaster at least 30 feet in the air run to the other side of the stage catch it & not miss a note I SWEAR TO GOD I AM NOT LYING
Graham Bonnet is one of the greatest hard rock vocalists of all time. He has monster range and the amazing ability to go up into his falsetto range without an audible "break" in his voice. And of course, having played with Yngwie, Vai, Schenker, and Blackmore tends to boost one's reputation!
@ambariel i use both and head voice is not falsetto because it has no break but falsetto does my highest head voice note is a G6 which is whistle range
It's no coincidence that most of the world's best ever, like, R. Blackmore, B. LaGrenne, S. & J. Rosenberg, E. Clapton, S.R. Vaughn, M. Knoppfler, Y. Malmsteen, J. MacLaughlin, L. Paul, C. Atkins, C. Byrd, J. Hendrix, J. Beck, S. Morse, etc., etc. have all been influenced by
gabbefuchs, on the contrary, it only proves what a genius Django was, and you're probably correct in assuming that with all fingers functioning he would have been even better. But then if he's been the best according to many including myself even with his fret hand partially burned, just imagine how many light years he would have been ahead of everyone without the burn. True Django did rearrange a lot to suit his two finger soloing style, but that only further proves his genius.
Never Forget Hiroshima!!! I hope Yngwe will back soon with Bonnet for a last kickass album before it's too late. Graham is fucking 60 now but still kicks ass!
Obviously they were refering to his playing as an experienced adult musician, not a learning kid. His still unmatched melodicism, phrasing, fire and passion, no matter how fast or quickly,or explosively he was playing, only proves the body is capable of a heck of a lot more than most people think.F.Columbu was told he'd never walk again after the refrigerator carrying contest where he slipped. He won the Mr.Olympia again after that.J.LaLanne's pulled 7 boats with 10 people in each under wtr swimming
what's with all the car accident excuse b.s. Yngwie plays as well as he ever did, probably better since musicians can progress well into old age. Hell, Django Reinhardt burned his hand to where only a couple of fingers could be used for all his soloing, and he's considered the best ever by many. He was said by other Jazz greats of the time to never have played a wrong note, and that everything he ever played was beautiful.
Django was a pioneer and it's true he played fantastic in spite of damaged fingers. This is not a very good argument though since Django would most certainately have been even better at least techniqally had he been able to use all his fingers.
This video got zero airplay on MTV. I think Dee Snider played it once on Headbanger's Ball. I haven't seen it in over twenty years. Thanks for posting!
For me, the greatness of an artist can be measured by how many followed his steps afterwards. The most imitated virtuosos have been Hendrix, Van Halen, Yngwie, Vai. And beside them stand the ones that crafted their own style such as Santana, Blackmore, Iommi, Page, et al. Too bad these days there are so many imitators...
i think all guitarist combined have raped the hell out of the guitar and theres nothing left to call your own because someone else has already thought of it.
First you got Yngwie's perfect leads played with a ton of emotion, taste, melody and technique. The riffs are classic too
You also got Graham Bonnet's incredible vocals including those high notes no human should be able to hit.
Then the lyrics are cool but more than that the melodies are catchy as hell. A classic song that should have been a big hit but usually most of the best songs never become big hits.
Ok, so I'm the bass player for Alcatrazz. I think I'm gonna ride the A string for a while then let Graham lean on my shoulder for a minute, then try and look cool as Yngwie plays forty notes to my one. Who hired this Sweedish fucker anyway? I can see now that a long term record contract for us is not gonna happen. Ah, the joy of 15 minutes of fame.
About Yngwie, I don't know exactly what kind of person he is.. sounds very arrogant in most interviews I've read... and sure, he has not improved much over the years.. he also tends to shred when he should not, but I still respect him as well. Sure there was Uli Roth and Blackmore etc, but there would be no neo-classical metal genre without of Malmsteen... He is not better than everyone else, but he is good. Respect. This song kicks ass, very tasty solo. Five stars from me
Well, Eric Clapton or Jimmy Page...? But no, I don't actually think they're better than Malmsteen. Just different. Malmsteen is not better than everyone else, but neither is he worse than anyone else. He has his own place in guitar world. He is good in neo-classical. Maybe he can't play blues very well, but who can demand all the guitarists to be good in everything? Besides, I've heard some 'bluesy' stuff from Yngwie and I think he has some potential... he just, shreds too much IMHO.
My point is: It is impossible to say which guitarist is the best, but there's place for everyone. There's place for Jimi Hendrix and there's place for Yngwie Malmsteen.
I admit that my message did look pretty negative. Sorry, that wasn't the intention. I like Malmsteen's music. The difference to some people is just that I don't worship the guitarists I like. They're not gods. They're human beings and by far not perfect. Just enjoy the music.
Early Yngwie pre 1987 is untouchable simply the best guitarist in the world. his solos were so controlled tasteful & amazing that all were mezmerized.
Thia was a great lp! It basically said get out of my way EVH, I'm the new King around here! Oh yeah, go back to the woodshed you wanna be's and practice your legato, alternate picking, Phrygian and Harmonic Minor scales. The birth of shred and a new guitar generation.
He had much to prove, and was among many great players, but he really went for it. I think that he was better in controlled ( Band ) environments. He's great, but many licks haven't changed over the years. ApB
I agree but we have to remember that Yngwie also had a car accident in the late 80's that screwed up his hand and ability combined with the drug and alcohol use his playing deterioted. Prior to all of this in 1987, he was a pure player. Fame kills!!!!
Graham Bonnet was always one of my favorite singers, but God I hated his image. He looked like he belonged on "Miami Vice" throughout his entire career. He's got an incredible voice, although he was always straining at the top of his range - but he just looked so goofy to me.
I mean, if you're going to play this kind of music, long hair isn't really an option. :)
This song forced about a million guitar players back to the woodshed to relearn how to play! and about a million others to start in the first place. Thank you Yngwie.
For me in 1983 it was the "Island In The Sun" video. A few months later it was the "Black Star" sound page (remember those) from Guitar Player magazine. After that It was goodbye EVH, hello Yngwie!
Hmm, interesting point. But to me his hairline looks the same (fairly high). I think his hair looks thicker just because there is so much more of it. It looks too sloppy I think. Around the time of "Fire and Ice" or "The Seventh Sign" it looked cool. It was very long but neater and more out of his face.
After odyssey his playing was totally different, he now plays faster so it's the speed issue here, even now I listen back to marching out and his early stuff is all pinpoint picking but slower so he will never play like that again as everyone has bigged him up to be ultimate guitarist when the reality is the young yng has long gone and were left to listen to his new work that's un colorful and mind numbing. Sorry.
He still is the ultimate guitarist in my eyes but here lies the truth.
There is a lot of truth to what you say. Although I think it has more to do with his creativity than his actual technique. I do think his over-all smoothness and vibrato is better now than it was then, as well as his ability to combine different lead passages. But I do think his playing is less focused and over-improvised. His solos tend to sound very random and uncreative these days.
Yngwie plays within the confines of a band? Wow, what a concept, and he's bridled through the guidance of a veteran, perfect. I'm a huge fan of Yngwie, but I'll be damned if this isn't some of his best. I've just came to the realization as his most recent works have me lost a little. I know now what had happened in time.
Does anyone know if the same guy who directed this later directed "God Blessed Video"? 'Cause they both share the same favored shots of stuff being reflected in Bonnet's glasses :)
Killer, heard the subject matter for this vid was heavy, now I finally get to see it!
That's true to a point. But I think he mostly wanted artistic freedom. Collaborating was just not as enjoyable to him (although I think it is his best work), as was creating his own compositions.
While I'll agree that Bonnet has a powerful voice, great tone and is/was distinctive in sound (and look)...and I am a fan... neither he, nor I, would say he's "one of the best singers ever." And Yngwie was a curiosity item for a couple years until people became less and less enthralled with the wannabe-Blackmore mannerisms and high-speed noodling for the sake of high-speed noodling.
This was long before MTV became a trendy mindless waste of time, catering to ever younger and dumber audiences. It has sucked for so long now that I can't remember having any interest in it.
He is more dynamic than he used to be, thats true. But he tends to sound a bit sloppy too. Sometimes I think he lst his ability to improvise as well after the car accident in 87.
KILLER song! World class guitar playing, when Yngwie was up-and-coming, and being 'discovered' by the masses! This brings back great memories! Thanks!
let's all bear in mind yngwie was 19 playing guitar at this level, even yngwie cant play this precise these days, this is footage of a true guitar hero not what he's turned out to be nowadays.
It was newborn and ten feet tall,
But they called it little boy,
And C7, H5, O6, N3 they called him
T-N-T.

Just enjoy the music.

ok i'm agree but why Malmsteen is very awsome? because he play with more precision than any guitarist that why is awsome

The birth of shred and a new guitar generation.
michaels2boys 4 years ago
He had much to prove, and was among many great players, but he really went for it. I think that he was better in controlled ( Band ) environments. He's great, but many licks haven't changed over the years. ApB

I agree but we have to remember that Yngwie also had a car accident in the late 80's that screwed up his hand and ability combined with the drug and alcohol use his playing deterioted. Prior to all of this in 1987, he was a pure player. Fame kills!!!!

Yeah, that's when he was truly at the top of his game! He was hungrier when he was young.

Graham Bonnet reminds me of Elijah Wood in "Sin City" when his glasses are screened out. lol
I still think he's cool looking though. He had his own look for sure.
Yngwie looks like a kid, but damn was he awesome at such a young age!

Yngwie's playing is impressive, but he did not evolve. His shows these days are flashbacks to these days.

you're right. but he did have to completely redo his playing after the car accident...

The singer looks like some form of bizzare game show host.

After that It was goodbye EVH, hello Yngwie!
michaels2boys 4 years ago
Hmm, interesting point. But to me his hairline looks the same (fairly high). I think his hair looks thicker just because there is so much more of it. It looks too sloppy I think. Around the time of "Fire and Ice" or "The Seventh Sign" it looked cool. It was very long but neater and more out of his face.
StanleyKu 4 years ago
Is this a conspiracy about him wearing a wig? What makes you think it's not real hair? His hair has just gradually gotten longer over the years.
StanleyKu 4 years ago
After odyssey his playing was totally different, he now plays faster so it's the speed issue here, even now I listen back to marching out and his early stuff is all pinpoint picking but slower so he will never play like that again as everyone has bigged him up to be ultimate guitarist when the reality is the young yng has long gone and were left to listen to his new work that's un colorful and mind numbing. Sorry.
He still is the ultimate guitarist in my eyes but here lies the truth.
964rsboy 4 years ago
There is a lot of truth to what you say. Although I think it has more to do with his creativity than his actual technique. I do think his over-all smoothness and vibrato is better now than it was then, as well as his ability to combine different lead passages. But I do think his playing is less focused and over-improvised. His solos tend to sound very random and uncreative these days.

Yngwie can't play this clean any longer.
gabbefuchs 3 years ago

Yngwie played Hiroshima mon amour at his Melbourne show in 06, he can definatly still play it.

IM glad he dropped Bonnet. Bonnet sucks.
rjmajor323 5 years ago
He didn't "drop" Bonnet. Yngwie just couldn't stand sharing the spotlight. His ego can't/couldn't accept being in a band.
isitrealgood 5 years ago
I sorta agree with ya, but I still think he dropped him anyway, Yngwie is a show on his own
rjmajor323 5 years ago
That's true to a point. But I think he mostly wanted artistic freedom. Collaborating was just not as enjoyable to him (although I think it is his best work), as was creating his own compositions.
StanleyKu 4 years ago
you suck!!! Bonnet is one of the best singers ever!!!
rideon77 5 years ago
While I'll agree that Bonnet has a powerful voice, great tone and is/was distinctive in sound (and look)...and I am a fan... neither he, nor I, would say he's "one of the best singers ever." And Yngwie was a curiosity item for a couple years until people became less and less enthralled with the wannabe-Blackmore mannerisms and high-speed noodling for the sake of high-speed noodling.

hard to believe music like this was in mtv's rotation, haven't seen this video in like, 25 years

This was long before MTV became a trendy mindless waste of time, catering to ever younger and dumber audiences. It has sucked for so long now that I can't remember having any interest in it.

yngwie is great nowadays i think he can still play this precise, listen to the song Attack and tell me thats not precise. he just rushes sometimes
fuckyalife 5 years ago
He is more dynamic than he used to be, thats true. But he tends to sound a bit sloppy too. Sometimes I think he lst his ability to improvise as well after the car accident in 87.

let's all bear in mind yngwie was 19 playing guitar at this level, even yngwie cant play this precise these days, this is footage of a true guitar hero not what he's turned out to be nowadays.
