Star Trek hasn't disappointed you yet? Dude, this was a great movie. I think its the best Star Trek movie ever made next to Khan. It has action. I don't feal like I'm on a submarine! BTW, get a better mic
you're review is accurate, the reboot is a loser for lots of reasons i'll just name a couple first, look at what they did to the enterprise took away her beautiful photon torpedoes and elegant phasers. then they gave you a terrible storyline weak and full of plotholes.spock's character is devoid of presence and authority(remember his superb entrance in the first movie).
i could go on.but it is best just to ignore this movie
This "movie" was a typical JJ Abrams piece of shit...you're right...but could you at least make that point WITHOUT the "mego Mr. Spock" doll in your hands!? Makes me feel like this "army" of true, Star Trek fans that are behind me are all a bunch of "dressed-up," pathetic, no-life convention punks all shouting "Ka-Pla" in Klingon while they're shopping at the local Wal-mart in their full Federation uniforms! Not exactly the kind of God-damn back-up that I was hoping for here! Jo lan true? Shit.
I love how he gets to Uhura / Zoe Saldana and completely loses his train of thought. You can just see his pupils turning into little hearts. Sorta like when I watched Avatar. :)
"insulted my intelligence" dude you are sitting in a bedroom the size of my closet playing with dolls, you have no intelligence. You are too old to be playing with action figures get a life nerd.
What this guy doesn't want to admit is that the Star Trek franchise was dead in the water. The failures of Star Trek X and Enterprise proved that. It was time for Star Trek to either adapt or die. Star Trek has adapted and the franchise has been given new life. If the trekkie nerds of the world don't like the changes they can always watch reruns of the original series. As far as I'm cocerned, Star Trek XI ( and eventually XII) rules!
@wardragonprime No actually i think this movie proved that star trek should have just died. Let it be put to rest and have it be remember for WHAT IT WAS. Instead of turning into something its not. Somethings are better if you just put them to rest. After JJ movies Star Trek will be in the position it was before.
@Tuber77 I agree with that. I don't know if 214scifi is joking or not, but I agree with him too, this film was abomination. Is this sepuset be a parody? If so, even an actual parody Trek parody "Galaxy Quest" was better that this movie. In mean script of atrocious! Orci&Kurtzman can't write to save their lives. This guys wrote Bayformers for for pit's sake! this story...it don't make no damn sense. Direction was also phenomenally bad. Lens flares, shaky cam. This was just bad movie.
@1701EarlGrey I agree with that. I don't know if 214scifi is joking or not, but I agree with him too, this film was abomination. Is this sepuset be a parody? I think it was a marvelous attempt at reinventing the franchise. Up until recently Star trek was dead. The Next Generation movies never exhibited anything movie-worthy. They were all 2-hour episodes dealing with a villain and his "super weapon." J.J.'s Trek did too, but it was made well and opened the doors to new adventures with the original characters. The sequel should take Trek back to Roddenberry's vision. I'm hoping.
I totally agree. I'm not a big Star Trek fan and I was not "converted". lol The movie was obviously trying very hard to be "cool" and "hip". Which is very lame indeed.
then why don't you just go and get a directing career and try and direct your own star trek movie because your just sooooooo appalled by JJ's version that you've just GOT to come and complain to us, isntead of DOING SOMETHING ABOUT IT
@214scifi ha ha ......well, I'd go to see the princess's ...but I'd only go costumed up to a star trek conv' .......there'd be loads of Kilgons ....so I'd have to make a Nausican or Hirogen costume. =)
I loved the movie but I understand if you didn't like it as a trek fan I know what you're saying but it's nowhere near as bad as those crap gijoe and transformers remakes, at least this movie still had allot to offer. But like I said I can understand why you don't like it.
I agree with the Angry Star Trek Fan. I don't even count JJ Abrams Star Trek movie as a Star Trek movie, it was an abomination. It just plain sucked. All previous Star Trek Movies beat the crap out of this movie hands down. This was too much a Teen Trek with new Star Wars elements added and it just blows chunks. I wanted to like it but it was immensely disappointing on so many levels. Rebooting, time travel, Cadet Kirk being promoted to Captain within an hour (yeah right), etc, etc, etc...
i liked the movie, but the whole "changing time" thing was a little much...i mean, you can't just wipe out the past and start over...what's next? is star wars history gonna be changed too?
Wow, this review is horrible. I personally thought the movie was great but I could understand why a fan of the original might have some gripes. The main problem with the review is that he never says why the movie was bad or why the actor was poorly casted. Good reviews give reason and site examples - this review has neither. It's a very simplistic review, the exact opposite of what I'd expect from a real Star Trek fan.
You seem to fail to mention that this movie takes place in alternate timeline where J.J. Abrams was able to take more liberties with it than Gene Roddenberry ever could. What J.J. Abrams was trying to do was produce a movie that would bring a new generation into the world of Trek while paying homage to the originals. The original came out in 1966, this movie came out in 2009...huge generation difference. There are bound to be different and quite possibly better undertakings.
So what they did was to take the 'star spangled' all American Star Trek, (which wasn't all American cause it's main star was a Canadian CS).
And replace him with an all American smarmy CS, with a cast of money grabbing greasy all American CS with extra smarm for added substance.
Throw in the ego of an all American smarmy CS Director and there you have it... the all American cheesy CS Star Trek cash cow, originally entitled, 'The search for $CASH$'.
joke aside the promo that declared this movie Not your father's Star Trek clearly implying that it was better than classic ST was condescending and just flat out wrong "my father's ST" is the true ST and it was perfect as it was the new movie is not ST it doesn't have the feeling the characters the brilliant vision of ST suck it JJ! you are clueless
I thought the movie was the best since ST 4, and First Contact also they didn't stick with same humanity crap that they been doing through out generations, ds9, voyager and enterprise. Big movie big effects and action which the other films lacked except the first 4 films and STNG First Contac.
and I couldn't care less I LOVE Star Trek V it has that good old Star Trek feeling that this new movie completely lacks with all its neurotic cinematography and anti-retina lens flares I guess that's a trendy spec effect device that JJ has become obsessed with no good reason other than making his movie "flashy" ... and simultaneously unwatchable
I loved the 1st one (although the story was quite a remake of the TOS episode "The Changeling") for its Star Trek feel, and I loved the 4th one with the whales. It was so funny! The part when Scotty talks to the computer mouse had me in stitches...
but the new movie ruined it all. I'm a Star Trek fan, and I had the urge to burn the cinema down at the end!
I felt the same way. But leave it to Hollywood to do anything to make a quick buck. I have also made a review on this movie. Called: "Pixel Super Show: Star Trek review," on the "groundonevideo" Channel. It was fun to blast new trek, since there's so much nonsense to talk about. :)
you are completely correct. This new star trek movie is horrible...

Just remember, Star Trek: TOS was based on Forbidden Planet. Leslie Nielsen made an awesome captain! Forget what you know about him; back in the day, he was the drama king.
If you think of Star Trek as a sequel to Forbidden Planet, and not a prequel to TOS, you might actually like it because it is.
If you've seen the original you'll know that as far as stories go it was way ahead of it's time. Each episode was a devious mystery which required the crew to search their hearts and minds for the solution and the villians were interesting, sometimes omnipotent. This movie is just a tired terrorism metaphor like those on CSI, NCIS, and other cheap crime procedurals. It's the worst Star Trek because it doesn't even try to say anything. It just blah's on causing epileptic fits until it ends.
I'm a huge trek fan, and I loved the movie. I'm sure you'll agree that Insurrection and Nemesis were boring TV episodes cluttered with middle-agers and 60-somethings (no offense).
