The Magnets used in the EPI G400 Standard 62 sg pu's are Anico V Magnets. They are called Classic and Classic Plus. just like the Gibson 57's but made by Epiphone. The P-90's in the 1961 Epiphone reissues are also Alnico V Magnets.

Classic Epiphones are amazing, but most Epiphones built these days are not wired correctly, they have flaws with the gloss coating and glue work, and the pickups do not sound very smooth. Gibsons are over priced though. What I did was got an Epi Les Paul and rewired it with some $300 gibson pickups. About a $600 and some work for an "almost" Gibson. Not too bad?

Epiphone has there own factory's were they craft there own guitars and Amps. They been doing this now over 9 years (2002) kramer is owned by Epiphone there the only othere guitars made in the Epiphone facility.

I've built guitars. The law is about adding value to the wood i.e. doing most of the cutting and dimentioning of the logs in the country of origin. All the wood from India comes in this form. This raid is about killing jobs in America. Gibson is a successful exporter of American goods, one of the few left in this country. It's like saying GM can't bend the metal into the shape of a car.
@JERIESALFREIH No it doesn't. You can't grow ebony or most rosewoods in our climate. Maple and walnut are used in American guitars but aren't considered the best for some types of instruments. The handcrafting of the instrument is where most of the labor is.

There's something that isn't stated; At the border, customs agents STOPPED the shipment because the final cosignee wasn't listed on the forms. They INSPECTED the shipment at the border, and they WAIVED it through anywya only to RAID Gibson after the fact. Could be wrong about no India made Epiphones. Pretty sure I saw some fender stuff that said India made just this year at local music store.

The Magnets used in the EPI G400 Standard 62 sg pu's are Anico V Magnets. They are called Classic and Classic Plus. just like the Gibson 57's but made by Epiphone. The P-90's in the 1961 Epiphone reissues are also Alnico V Magnets.

In Madagascar it is illegal to harvest and/or export unfinished ebony. Ebony is an endangered tree. Classic Epiphones are amazing, but most Epiphones built these days are not wired correctly, they have flaws with the gloss coating and glue work, and the pickups do not sound very smooth. Gibsons are over priced though. What I did was got an Epi Les Paul and rewired it with some $300 gibson pickups. About a $600 and some work for an "almost" Gibson. Not too bad?

The guitar is said to be 5000 years old. The Electric guitar is 80 years old. And it was Epiphone who introduced the very first Electric solid body guitar back in 1931. If you play Electric guitar you have Epiphone to thank. I shure do. EPI is 138 years

Kingwingnut. Today your guitar doesnt have to be usa crafted to have top pro qualty. Thoes days Ended 10 years ago. China/indonesia/japan/korea and mexico make top pro quality guitars today and most are very under priced. EPI MAN 4 life.

Todays Epiphone guitars are some of the very best crafted guitars on the planet. They are way under priced. Gibson guitars are with out any doubt the biggest over priced guitars in the world i do not feel sory for gibson at all.

Michelle Obama gifted the first lady of France with a Gibson Hummingbird last year...Shouldn't she be charged with intercontinental distribution of illegally harvested endangered wood,in addition to US federal charges? Even tho Gibson probably comped the guitar to her,ignorance of the law is no excuse,as a judge would be quick to tell anyone of us.And wouldnt the French first lady also be subject to arrest on possession charges?

I've built guitars. The law is about adding value to the wood i.e. doing most of the cutting and dimentioning of the logs in the country of origin. All the wood from India comes in this form. This raid is about killing jobs in America. Gibson is a successful exporter of American goods, one of the few left in this country. It's like saying GM can't bend the metal into the shape of a car.

@JERIESALFREIH No it doesn't. You can't grow ebony or most rosewoods in our climate. Maple and walnut are used in American guitars but aren't considered the best for some types of instruments. The handcrafting of the instrument is where most of the labor is.

There's something that isn't stated; At the border, customs agents STOPPED the shipment because the final cosignee wasn't listed on the forms. They INSPECTED the shipment at the border, and they WAIVED it through anywya only to RAID Gibson after the fact. Isn't this like cops allowing a shipment of crack to go to a crackhouse so they can bust the crackheads? You have got to be kidding me!

Maybe if the US government slapped an administration fee and took a slice of the pie on top of the transactions they might not have done anything... It's disgusting. No common sense, I personally would tell them to rot in hell had I have been one of those interrogated employees. I do think Gibson's prices are unfairly extortionate but this is no excuse.

@muzikscud23 For the quality they produce, the price is right on. Guitars are inexpensive compared to orchestral strings, woodwinds, and brass. You could get an excellent Les Paul for the same price as an acceptable saxophone.

A bit ironic seeing The American Jobs Act video listed right above these videos about the fed shutting down American jobs at Gibson huh? So as I get this: Indian(India) law forbids the exportation of it's woods unless the wood product is completely finished by Indian workers? If true I would have to think every guitar manufacturer not in India and using wood from India is in trouble. Or is it just the USA manufacturers in trouble because the fed isnt going to raid out of it's jurisdiction.

@jakazz73 Not sure... have'nt dug that direction yet. Can tell you I have not seen India on the back of any epiphones. Elite models are made in Japan at Fugigen factory, standard models in China. Could be wrong about no India made Epiphones. Pretty sure I saw some fender stuff that said India made just this year at local music store.
