Fox wanted to grab some of these older stations in the New World switch just because they were on VHF channels...but the joke was on them in the end: now that TV stations are digital, nearly all these so-called VHF stations are actually broadcasting OTA on UHF themselves! Oh, well, at least it left Kansas City with an NBC affiliate eons better than their old one.
It's too bad KTVI and KDNL swapped affiliation. I always thought they were better suited before the transfer. KTVI produces my preferred newscast and ABC would love to have KTVI back as their St. Louis affiliate, as I understand they hate Sinclair and KDNL.
@wrestlingprof Sinclair is a shitty company plain and simple...At one time they had a newscast on KDNL but cancel the news, and St. Louis is market #21 so If I was an ABC execuitve I would be piss too...KPLR Ch 11 has been courted many times to be the ABC affiliate, but nothing never happened
@applesauce2100 Another thing to consider is that KPLR and KTVI basically share the same news resources so that calls into question as how newscasts would be shifted to better suit KPLR if they were to affiliate with ABC. I've wondered that quite a bit myself.
I still can't imagine how KPLR can be a worse affilate than KDNL. Although I think most of this is wishful thinking that will never happen.
@Mrtraveler01 well before they became a shared service newsroom, back in the 90s when they switch KPLR should of been ABC affiliate first before KDNL.
@applesauce2100 Agreed. Although I think KPLR was the first station offered the new ABC affiliation but they passed since they were just affiliating with the fairly new WB network at the time.
@wrestlingprof ABC hates having KDNL as an affiliate, I think KDNL is one of the lowest rated ABC affilates in the country. Go figure since one of the highest rated ABC affiliates in the country is Sinclair-owned WSYX in Columbus (although I think part of it has to do with it being the usual station for Ohio State football games).
@Mrtraveler01 WSYX in third place in ratings, but NOW noon/5pm #2 in the ratings but it not the highest rated ABC affiliate in country, not passing WFAA, WSB and others, but WSYX makes the most money out of all the Sinclair stations, and your right with OSU games that when the station rakes in alot of money.. Check out my videos on my youtube channel of WSYX, Sinclair only cares about the money this stations rakes in, and could careless about the ratings needle moving up
@applesauce2100 Bingo! KDNL actually makes quite a bit of money for Sinclair, but that's because they invest nothing in local programming and just rely on syndicated televisions. In fact I think the rerun of the Simpsons at 6 pm is the highest rated program on KDNL outside of ABC programming.
Pretty much sums up KDNL in a nutshell. It's run more like a CW or My Network TV affiliate than an ABC affiliate.
@Mrtraveler01 not for long though.... KDNL is bringing news back starting in Jan..... course they won't be the ones producing it, KSDK is going to produce news at 5 and 10 for KDNL (can't interfeer with the Simpons at 6)
WSEE and KSTW uaed the same graphics in the news open. Obviously with different background shots because they're in different cities.

@jhshifris1 Probably, but Tribune wanted KPLR to be a major WB affiliate instead and spurned ABC.
