Kenny Garrett, David Binney, Miguel Zenon, Mark Turner, Chris Potter, Joe Lovano, Joshua Redman, Joe Henderson, Michael Brecker, John Coltrane, Sonny Rollins, Charlie Parker, Warne Marsh, George Garzone, Bob Berg, Myron Walden, Troy Roberts, Wayne Shorter, Jackie McLean, James Spaulding, Ernie Watts, Paul Gonzalves..... Etc...
Heard of John Coltrane, Sonny Rollins and Charlie Parker but never listened to them before, just listened to Charlie Parker and I see what you mean. Huge difference, still like Andrew Beal though in his own way he's O.K.
you remind me of a priest telling the village how bad it is to like rock and how creationism is actually science. Who gives a crap whether he's good or bad? if people listen and like him, how does that affect you? You need to love music for yourself... and clearly this crazy guy does, so I give him props for it.
Catholic priests claim that evolution is TRUE and scientific. They often state that although the creation of the world is not 'scientific,' evolution is in accordance with it.
Christians (that is, not Catholics) on the other hand, believe that creation is NOT scientific, but MORE scientific facts align with creation 'ism' than evolutionism.
Either way, I agree with you, although I have reservations.
The better known someone is does not mean they are the best. In fact, it seems the more complex the musician, the more they are shunned. It's a damn shame that people think saxophone is supposed to sound like this.
What do you mean? How should it sound? Ive worked in a studio for 15 years, recorded mostly jazz and blues music. I play sax on my own. He is a great player no doubt.
If u are talking bout soundquality its a different thing. But thats the video and recording. We all have different taste, thats something you should learn. This guy has great techniques and plays with feeling.
Playing with feeling will only get you so far. His technique is bad. No one would know who he is if he hadn't appeared on that show. Anyone can get to his level in a year or two. Nothing special about his playing. Hoi Polloi like him because he's silly and they can relate to him. He plays music people know, in ways they feel comfortable with. It's simply average, junior-high school material. People think he's good because he's famous, not famous because he's good. Not how things should be.
People like what they hear = the player is good enough. Averege human ear doesnt hear what we hear as proffesional muscicians. Your explanation isnt fair. People stood up applauding him the first time he showed up on TV (americans got talent). People think hes good cos hes famous? Not really. People liked what they heard and and saw, that made him famous. But theres always punks like u that wants to take that joy away from other people.
Does it hurt you that he is famous? Is it a bad thing? Feeling will only get him so far? Well, i can tell you that he has gone alot further than most of muscicians will ever do. And he also has a greater chance to succeed. Feeling man, people likes feeling. They dont like "note snobes" like you.
A note snob? Perhaps. Does the definition of Note Snob include the fact that I like my music to be multi-dimentional? Anyone can play with feeling. Someone who has never played before can pick up an instrument and have it make a sound. If they do it with feeling, does that mean they should be famous? I know people that work their ass off their entire life and get no recognition. People's minds aren't open enough to enjoy music that isn't simple.
So you actually mean that Andrew just picks up his instrument and blow in it with no intuition at all? He isnt the best, so what. He plays and people like what they hear. Are you the one who judge if people should like it or not? Fact is that esasy made music is often the best if its made with alot of feeling. Look at Jan Johansson:s "visa från utanmyra", Jimi Hendrix "foxy lady" etc. You like what you hear, other what they hear. Poeple gets famous cos other poeple like what they hear and see.
Those were original, and they were great at what they did. Sometimes people get famous just because they're weird (William Hung, GWAR, and so on.)
I think you're going about it backwards. Music should be made as one's unique approach to expressing themselves, you make music that you yourself like, and if other people happen to like it, that's a plus I guess. If you make music you don't like just that people will like it, you get pop, where everything is bland and emotionless and sounds the same.
I understand what you mean but your way of expressing this isnt very smooth. Sometimes its just enough to play and have fun. And i cant see anything wrong in that. Is it our thing to judge what people should or shouldnt like? "This isnt the way a saxophone should sound". I mean, there is no way a saxophone "should" sound. And what do you know about Andrew Beals intentions?
this guy is my brother! and if you dont believe me watch jack in the box dancing it shows me at the end. andrew is so cool and he can play even better then this when he...just starts playing lol

unlike a trumpet or any other brass instrument, wood winds have limits on how high they can play. Every key pushed down on a sax is the highest possible it can go, and every key open is the lowest.
Actually, the saxophone is designed for unlimited range. It can go infinitely high provided the correct pressure, direction of air, throat muscle tightness, and hole coverings. It is called altissimo range (above normal fingering capability). I know Andrew, and he can play 4 octaves, 5 on C concert (low A w/thigh against horn and screamin' high teeth on the reed, w.control too)
That's completely backwards. When you push down a key, it makes the horn longer, which makes the sound travel a longer distance to escape, which makes it sound lower. You also have to figure in Overtones, or Harmonics, which make it possible to play notes over the saxophone's middle C#. Without those, it would stop. a Good saxophonist's range can go from the lowest Bb to well over Bb 4 octaves above. I use the word "Good" loosely, as bad players often do this by accident. It takes practice.
Great sax player
