I almost had that RRoD on my Xbox 360; luckily, I replaced the thermal grease on the CPUs and GPU, dusted out the system and everything is perfect. It normally took a long time to load my Halo: Reach gamesave, and today, it took 30 seconds instead of 5 minutes, and my system temperature is at a stable 40C (108F) and the fans before ran slow and I could feel heat going through; now, the fans run faster than before to help cool down the inside faster. Lousy crappy Microsoft Thermal Paste.
Get a air compressor..At the back...Push the air in the holes in the back of the console...Blow everyhole until every spec of dust flys out...when you are finished all the holes...you will be ready to own ;) I did it and now am playing 3 hours a day not like 10 minutes. THUMBS UP IF IT WORKS!! (Y)
This can be fixed....iv fixed 3 like this....i have put the fix on MODDERS HEAVEN....search xbox 360 modders heaven ....once in there look under forum then xbox 360 modding tut
my 360 has this problem to but i dont want to open it up because ime scared that i might mess something up and end up breaking my 360 but now i have to send it to microsoft for 2 weeks and pay 100 bucks.....
This happened with my Xbox on tuesday. I was happily playing MW2 when suddenly the fans went fully quick and gave me 2 red lights. Then thought It's overheated. Left it for a day and It was the same as the video. I'm now installing new X Clamps and securing everything on the motherboard such as heatsinks this weekend. Hope it works! xD
happens same to me turn it on no red lights somtimes 3 lights on when turn on so i go on gta4 10-or-5 mins it comes on 2 red lights then fan turns it sen off
well, 1st i took my xbox360 appart to the bare motherboard, and found that my cpu heatsink was loose. I was like WTF. so i plugged meh shit back into the xbox, and pressed firmly down on the heatsink and wala it was fixed :D.
Here's what you do. Mine did this after I fixed 3 ring error. The button board (how you turn on the xbox) just disconnected that while the xbox is on and doing this, and plug it back in while it is still on. It will boot.
I tell you the answer right now and it's very simple, checked this out with my 360, the reason it's doing that is beccause of the fan that cools it. If you remove the fan and turn on your 360 it'll work, normally (Don't keep it on like that for long don't want over heat)
When it starts running normally again turn off 360 and plug fan in, it'll start to work again. This is my fix i've tested it it worked, if it doesn't work than something else might not be plugged in correctly inside the 360. Hope this works.
1. Follow a guide on how to take apart our xbox360. (only if you have no warranty)
2. Along the way with each step look for dust and vacuum it out.
The system has not given me 2 red lights for about a week now and everyone should try definitely try this cause it works. Also I would like to add that I stopped at the point where you have to take 8 or more tiny screws out cause I didn't have a screwdriver small enough.
does anyone know how to fix that problem mine did this and ive waited 2 days for it to cool down but it still does teh 2 rings any one know whats wrong?
You have to do the same "x-clamp fix" as if you had the three red lights, but you don't have to overheat it since it's not the 3 red light problem but an overheating problem caused by the heat sinks losing a connection with the cpu and gpu, probably from the shitty thermal paste that microsoft uses. Use Arctic Silver 5! It fixed my problem!
i tried that xclamp fix but used a different thermal compund, kind of like plastic/ lateex type, but it didnt work, so does that mean i MUSt use silver thermal compund?
I would recommend it cuz it's metal-based & therefore conducts heat better, but it conducts electricity too so u gotta be careful using it, make sure it doesn't touch any of those tiny transistors or it might fry the board! I also forgot to mention that u shouldn't smooth out the paste into a thin layer. I know thats the PROPER way of doing it, but it doesn't work as well on a 360 as in a pc. Instead I put a small drop in the middle & placed the heat sink on top. Smooths out by itself.
This is the exact same problem i'm having, it is also the first time i've found and identical problem after searching for hours on the net. I already told xbox support that I had the 3 rings of death I was kinda drunk and wanted to just try to get my box in without being charged. I'm considering overheating the crap out of my box just to cause it to rrod.
