Wow. Saw Cale on this tour, on Aug 27 1983 - my 20th birthday, with Jonathan Richman. Black and White. Richman crawling up the aisles singingg, "I'm a little dinosaur"; Cale curled up into foetal ball over his guitar primal screaming at the end of 'Cable Hogue' or something (have shot of that: should scan it) - and both of them duetting on 'Pablo Picasso'. Hard to describe Cale's set. Terrifying, cryptic, gentle? Saw him solo 3 years later and he spoke to me from stage. Both forever memories.
It is somewhat well known that Kevin Ayers fucked John Cale's wife the night before the June 1, 1974 concert ... hence the somewhat bemused look between them on the cover. "Guts" was written for him not long after that.
@trollfinger Cale quit coke and drinking, so he's not ripping up carpet tiles or decapitating chicken corpses on stage anymore. Still, I'm sure he would be amazing to see.
I've noticed that B flat is one of Cale's favourite keys... it's a good key... B is in itself a bit unusual... Robert Johnson played often in B... The Stones' Jumpin' Jack Flash too is in B...
Anyway, are you suggesting that "The bugger in the short sleeves" who fucked his wife, who "did it quick and split" is actually Kevin Ayers? Lol!!!
I kind of love that he seems to have raided Bryan Ferry's wardrobe for this show. These are two of my absolute faves. Need a good version of Fear, now.
mhhhg great!!

I'd love to see him live. I doubt any two of his concerts are the same.

@trollfinger Cale is better than this live, I saw him play a whole show solo in 2001.
