  • don't be so nieve little diamond. And this guy in this song is very creepy

  • @eedobee Thanks for taking the time to write to me. ;-)

  • That is not Dean Martin singing

  • I think I like it better when Glee did it. But still great.

  • He totally got laid.

  • some people overreact the lyrics and think wrong

  • shut up. its a 50s song. date rape? idiots.

  • When she says 'whats in this drink?' she means 'what is it i cant tell just looking at it' coz it could be that it looks like wine but its just blackcurrant or grape juice. She doesn't mean 'is this spiked or what' ok? Get over it. NOW.

  • Wow. Date rape much?

  • lol i love elf :)

  • i donèt know why some ppl dont understand english ''say, whats in this drink''

means like, woah thats a strong drink of alcohol. NOT "hey somethings fizzing

at the bottom of the cup''. lotta idiots in the world..

good song and thnx for the lyrics

  • this song has been stuck in my head forever! it's great to finally know ALL the lyrics:)

  • i have this conversation with myself in my bed every morning

  • @JALO2799 i know right its awesome

  • Lol want a mind blowing evening? Get stoned and listen to this song.

  • Hum. You must admit, the lyrics *are* pretty darn creepy if you look at them. Yes, the music is good, I enjoyed it, and the way the characters say the lines makes it clear that the drink is just alcohol, but they're still rather creepy.

  • It's about the inner struggle; she's alluding to all these external reasons why she should go, her sister, her father the neighbors, and he's countering with the terrible weather. When really, what they're avoiding talking about is what's going on inside them. Compare to the telephone scene in It's a Wonderful Life, which speaks of an era where young lovers were unprepared in a society that didn't speak openly about matters of the heart. Songs like this got the dialog going.

  • Shit, even if it WAS about date rape, what a great way to do it. Love this song

  • Awesome song to listen to in the winters..

  • I could make a sly remark about date rape but seeing as it wouldn't be original I'll just go ahead and say this song is a classic and admit that its fun to sing a long too .

  • @RedDKWoW

GalenBanan isn't digging into it at all, they are simply reading the lyrics. The people who actually know what the song is about have dug much farther than those who don't.

  • @BleedingHeartLove219 You are right, but then again you are a tid bit wrong. He/ she could have began with thought: this is a classic. not many thought that way at the time.

If most USED THEIR HEADS BEFORE TALKING, we souldnt have such stupid people in the world today. With everything Im writing, I like thinking of myself as like, YouTube's Answer guy. Seriously! anyone with a problem just comment on this vid! ;)

  • y'all are all crazyy HAHA date rape?? lmfaoo (funnyy) btw there joking and all you other dumb ass people chill the fuck out jeeeez you guys are having a fucking spaz about this shit?? LOL just shut the fuck up and enjoyy the song! :)

  • gahh love this song!! thn fer the lyricsss

  • I think this song is pretty creepy. I mean, she says "the answer is no" and he's stops her to go even if she don't want to stay any longer with him. No means no, why can't people just understand and respect that. This song is like a rape to me.

  • @GalenBanan shut the hell up, its a classic you big fat pussy, nobody cares about how this song SOMEHOW offended ur pussy ass

  • @GalenBanan *facepalm*

  • Lovely Song , Really (:

  • YouTube comments are always so stupid ._.

  • You sick people (not all)!! You know, thats why I hate most of this generation's population! "lol date rape" "this song is disturbing". Its a freaking song about people who love for a GOOD REASON!! People these days have the same horny reasons for love: "big tits" or "huge dick". I miss the last few centuries! When true love is presented, its made on movie for more money!! I HATE THE 2000s!! And the weirdest part, I understand all this at the age of 12!! How? My very stupid, horny classmates!!

  • lovvvve this sonng (: it's soooo goood and dude, i see your point but you NEED to chill.

  • You sick people (not all of you)! You know, that's why I hate most of this generation's population! "lol date rape" "this song is disturbing". It's a freaking song about people who love for a GOOD REASON!!!! People these days have the same most sick, twisted, and horny reasons for love: "that girl got big tits" or "I could suck on that dick all day". I miss the last few centuries! When true love is presented, it's only on a movie for more money or a talk as the punch line! I HATE THE 2000's!!!!

  • 0:47 If you have to wonder what's in the drink, the time to go has come and is long gone

  • love this song

  • i love this song im singing it for a concert!! hehe

  • If u think the songs tacky and u don't like it then why did you look it up?? Its not like someone to just look up a song just to comment and hate on it! If u don't like the song then don't comment or watch it! The reasons comments are put in place are to compliment not hate!!!

  • Great song!

  • Pretty tacky for a presumed Christmas Song.

  • it's obviously not about date rape! a girl is at a guys house, she went there and stayed for a while WILLINGLY but her family will be worried if she doesn't come home! stop ruining a nice christmas song! :P

  • Ug, I've always hated this song. =/

  • creepy song xD

  • Even if this song is about daterape, it's still an amazing song. I was brought here when my English teacher told us about this song saying is was about daterape. I don't give a crap if this song is about date rape or not, I have listened to this song about 7 times straight.

So please, lets all just enjoy the music no matter what it means!

  • i hate christmas music lol c:

  • Buddy the elf brought me here(:

  • Some people are sooooooooo, like, stupid! Stop THINKING about things and just mindlessly listen, mmmkay? Jeeeeeeze, you're ruining it for everyone by doin' that critical thinkin'! Waaaaaaah, lemmme enjoy tha soooooooong. Wah.

  • @WarmLittleDiamond90 fucking moron

  • I learned this from elf:D

  • I frkn love this song

  • Like if you discovered this song from the movie elf?! :D

  • its the date rape xmas song... look at the words

  • @clearwindo your dumb

  • LOVE this song!

  • Finally I understand the words that I couldn't hear in this song.

  • Its so cuuute. :

  • It may not be Date rape But he sure as hell wants to get in her pants.

  • Song sounds a bit rapisty.

  • @6WingedHydraPheonix3

top comments are seen without having to scroll down, love xoxo

  • Is this the original?

  • This song just sounds like a teenage girl at a boys house that she likes

  • this song proves that common ground is good.

  • Hey Uncle Justin!!

  • Well guys, you can't deny there may be a little sexuality in this, but in the same, there's so much more to it. This song is about love, and wanting to be with you're loved one, and I really think that's what this generation is missing. Each time most of my freinds hear a joke or a song, they immediately turn to look at the shallowest meaning of it, instead ofseeing the real meaning, and the love in it. This generation needs a little love, so who's going to be the first to outstretch their hand?

  • This is so cute! <3 I love the oldies!!

  • Thanks for the video because I have a Choir Concert tonight and I needed a way to study since we're doing this song.

  • i know it's not about raping but that's just what i feel when i hear it! BTW i like it :D

  • wanting to listen to a good song and the arguementative comments ruin everything.

  • @sophiejudey If you don't like it, then don't read it.

  • Thumbs Up if the Albert Heijn Commercial brought you here!

  • It is amusing, though, that people get miffed and riled up about other people's varying perceptions of something, despite it being in no way a serious topic or anything but an opinion.

  • for god sake of course its not about roofies/rape/spiked drinks jesus not everything is a big conspiracy theory. She's just stalling by asking what's in the drink, and this song isn't about rape or harassment its just about temptation and love, ya'll are so immature.

  • -3

  • i like this old music. hahahaa ;D

  • Some people are fucking stupid, just enjoy the song!

  • Roofies weren't even invented in 1944 which is the year this song was written, so everybody can shut the fuck up. Just enjoy the damn music.

  • FKING PEDOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!!!!!!!! He Jus Wants To Get It In..

  • @MyRainbowNinjas do you know what a pedo is? if not, look it up. If you do, please explain how he is a pedophile.

  • When she says what's in this drink, it could be like rum and eggnog, but she thought that it was just eggnog, or at least something along those lines. Not that her drink was roofied. That's what I always thought.

  • then they fucked

  • This is definetly the best version. I love this song its so fun to sing!!!!!

  • ohhhh it was roofies in her drink.... now i get it

  • @spore0808 glad to see someone else sensed that. :3

  • I really REALLY love this song (it's one of my favorite Christmas songs), but there IS a very slight underlying tone that makes it uncomfortable (The "what's in this drink" line really tips it off).

I'm not saying it's dirty or terrible. I'm just saying that it's there.

  • @LadyAlmandine That line refers to her wondering whats in the drink as a way of stalling. There's no underlying anything that makes anything in this song uncomfortable unless referring to the fact that this sounds like a private conversation.

  • @CandieBarr6669 You can really take from it what you will with this song.

It can be interpreted a few different ways, and from a modern standpoint it sounds a bit funny (though it's not intentional).

  • @LadyAlmandine Yea I guess. If you're a moron or are too stupid to realize that this is not a modern song.

  • @CandieBarr6669 Or maybe you're the moron who can't look at it from a different point of view. This is not a modern song, but the meaning can be interpreted in a different way if you put the song in another context. People do it for the hell of it.

It's really not a new concept.

  • @LadyAlmandine Okay. If you ignore the time it was written, the time about 1/2 the versions, if not more, were recorder, and if you ignore her tone of voice when she asks, then sure. But with the way the woman (or man depending on the version) asks, it's out of curiosity, not suspicion. all that ignoring would make you a moron.

  • @LadyAlmandine I totally agree. :3

  • (in the mood for some christmas songs) translation for song: (guy) Its cold, please stay O~O...(girl) but i have to g- (guy) YOU'LL DIE OF PNEUMONIA IF YOU LEAVE ME D:<

  • i bet anyone who thinks this song is about rape is under the age of 20. kids dont know good music.

  • @Alisonl0v3 I'm thirteen, and I posted a comment saying how ridiculous everyone was by saying this... So yeah, don't be stereotypical.

  • @lostpages23 And did I say that everyone under 20 thought this song was about rape? no I do believe i said anyone saying that was under 20. now get off the internets and go play with your barbies little girl. you should think about what you say before you say it because you just made yourself seem really stupid.

  • This is the best christmas duet ever, I love when they perform it in Elf!

  • This is my favorite winter song <3 It's just so sweet.

  • my favorite Christmas time song

  • Comment removed

  • they song this in mr.wilson class they were awesome i think the boy name was Alberto and the girl im not sure

  • I luvv this song everyone should post there top 5 or 10 favorite ORGINAL Christmas songs!!!

  • Favorite Christmas song(: thumbs up if you agree(:

  • it's not really rapey, although it does sound a bit odd at the whole "what's it this drink?" part. Not implying anything, I don't think this would be a common christmas song if it was about rape.

  • love this song. 24 people are just tone deaf.

  • Obviously the way she said, "Say, what's in this drink", is from curiosity and not from suspicion. She is subtly stalling leaving and trying to stall further by asking him what type of drink it is because it tastes good. This is NOT a song about rape.

  • @IwillKillYourCereal she might just be looking for an excuse to stay, too. "Opps I don't think its a good idea to leave.."

  • I absolutely love love this song... thx 4 postin<3

  • One of my favorite christmas songs:)

  • me and my friend are singing this song for are play(:

  • I love this song baby it cold outside

  • I LOVE THIS SONG <3<3 its a proper classic

wish they still made songs like this

  • Glad to know there's still people who like good music(:

  • In our time, yeah it sounds suspiciously like what some are suggesting. But you must know it's about love, suspicions, and excuses. Think of the time period it was made in. I personally love this song.

  • The sweetest hard to get song (: where the girl knows she wants him & the boy knows himself <3 a classic love song!

  • -sigh- I was looking forward to listening to this song after a year, and now I read the comments and can't stop picturing this as some stupid rape scenario.

Way to ruin my favorite song, I'm going to try my best not to picture it this way...

  • Lol! Christmas spirit eh??

    Great song.

  • i cant go to a youtube video without there being some sort of arguement over the music. why dont you just shut the fuck up & enjoy it?...

its a great christmas song. calm your guys' nuts. c:

  • Obviously it's not about rape. But still, an older gentleman with his own house? A young girl who must scurry back home to her parents? Pressuring her into staying? Giving her drinks? The paedophilic connotations just jump out at you.

Great song, but to me, his part will always be the role of the dirty older man.

  • @o0SayNoToEmo0o When did it say anything about him being older? I always imagined this scene to be with two adults around the same age.

  • @o0SayNoToEmo0o This was written in 1944. During that time, women would normally stay living with their parents until they got married which although girls were normally married by about 20, that wasn't always the case. The men many times would move out when they were done school. And this song is normally performed by couples fairly close to the same age. Although Mercer is about 15 years older than Whiting. But the couples are normally closer in age than that.

  • Im 16 and i think its a bit depressing that MOST of my generation has deteriorated into thinking songs like this involve sex or rape.

  • @shotchipmunk77 and dont forget the part where people of our generation think songs about sex and/or rape or cheating etc are romantic.

  • @shotchipmunk77 This was written in 1944, not 2000. I'm pretty sure that the song is about lovers. Do your research. It's not for rape, nor was it intended to be.

  • @thunderclanstar woah chill ! @shotchipmunk77 has a valid point

  • @mrsleopardprint I understand that. He does have a valid point. In this generation, we have become somewhat desensitized to rape/sex. But its not everyone. I have friends who don't think that songs like this are about rape. I am trying to point out that everyone has a different opinion of everything.

  • who cares what people say, just ignore them people...its annoying when i see people saying stuff like how its not nice to say this this and this...shut up..nobody likes hearing people complain either, but its also annoying how you guys say how its not nice to say mean things..-_- so dumb.

its not going to change a thing....

  • My favourite winter song<3

  • 12 people caught pneumonia and died

  • Is this the original

  • @nalaahmed I'm pretty sure the first recording of this was with Dinah Shore and Buddy Clark. But I'm not 100%. It may have been the one with Ricardo Montalbán and Esther Williams or Red Skelton and Betty Garrett which were recorded for the same film. They were all recorded the same year if I remember correctly.

  • This song is very sultry. It's not at all about rape. He's convincing her to stay longer because they love one another, but at the time men and women would be seen as terrible if they spent a night together not married. How I interpret it, is that she is also stalling to leave. She's making excuses to leave, but never leaves because she's still saying, "yeah it's cold outside...i'll stay...oh wait my sister will be suspicious!"

  • @keiheartedlove whats in my drink? umm haha

  • @litteldipper Actually did you know this song before it came out all huge was sung by the song writer and his wife. They deemed it as "their love song" so no it's not a rape song, it's a romance song. If someone says, "What's in this drink?" it just doesn't mean, "THEY DRUGGED ME!" It can mean, "What grapes were used in this wine?" "Did you put cream in my coffee?" "What juice is this?" there are many connotations not just...rape.

  • @keiheartedlove I still love the song but its just funny (:

But it is kind of true, now days everything taken the wrong way

back thing it was a cute song (:

  • @litteldipper Does this mean I have an old timer's mind??? Lol

  • @keiheartedlove

    Haha just maybe

    Not a bad thing

your lucky, not everything comes off as bad as it does to everyone else haha

  • I love this duet it's soooo romantic and cute :*

  • Its Snowing!(; <3

  • I think I know what happens at the end of this song... She stays and they play baseball :)

  • I love singing this song... :) Christmas time, finally!

  • ELF ! :D

  • I love when he says 'When you get pneumonia and died' Hahaa. This song is one of my all time favorites.

  • ... if you watch the original music he puts something in her drink so yeah he did drug her... just sayin'

  • @XxKierraBearXx and in the version with Red Skeleton it looks like she's going to rape him before she turns off the light :)

  • I've been reading these comments and everybody's like "OH EM GEE! HE'S GONNA RAPE HERRRRR!!!"

Um... No. He's not. He's convincing her to stay inside and enjoy each others company, and enjoy the romantic evening.

These comments reminded me of one time when a girl told me the song "Lips of an Angel" was such a romantic song.

I just think... "Really? A song about a guy cheating on his girlfriend is more romantic than songs like this?" Seriously what has happened to people's taste in music???

  • @jreed3842 That is so very true. Im glad i aint one of those people

  • @jreed3842 I agree with you. :3

It's a perfectly innocent song, and I Freaking love it. to me it's one of those songs that you hear every Christmas, and just puts you in the holiday spirit.

however, like most things nostalgic, it's sometimes fun to look at it from a more Modern and frankly more sarcastic standpoint, and to laugh at how, when you think about it, it does sound a little date-rapey.

not that rape is funny.... it's not.....LOL XD

  • It's nearly Christmas :)

  • What's in this drink? It's Delicious!

  • @XXLightwindXX Thank you... god people are stupid!

  • he doesnt sound like a pedophile........ people nowadays sound like pedophiles with ther "hey lets smash" "want an STD??? i got plenty!" "lets get in the back of my truck hoesss" i mean honestly people? is Dean martin the pedophile here? i dont think so... I thinkk its YOU! lol

    -good day everyone :D

  • This guy, when you think about it, sounds like a pedophile? o_0

  • @MISSshutyourface how does he sound like a pedophile? Or are you one of those people that don't know the meaning of pedophile and call everyone a pedophile?

  • say.... what's in this drink?

  • hehe i like the smiley face at the end:)

  • Thanks for the GREAT video! Perfect timing !! Thanks!! GREAT Song no matter who sings it :)

  • Heh-heh...gotta love lil' pointless comment fights :)

  • nickeldfier

  • i get that molester vibe from the guy part...

  • This is my #1christmas song!

  • love the two smiley faces at the end!

  • YES! thank you for uploading this one. not glee or lasy antebelum thank you

  • Obviously, only people with have a brain would think this song is about rape.. it's obvious that back when this song was made, men and women did not sleepover at eachothers houses, and left before it got too late. Its about a young couple in love that do not want to have to say goodbye... therefore the Guy is trying to convince her to stay a little bit but she knows it would look bad if she did, despite the fact she does not want to leave..

  • @sammieliz12 1. well yeah, when you think about the time when it was written it's perfectly innocent. but nowadays.... it sounds kinda rapey.

    2. then explain the line "say, what's in this drink?".

and 3. I think you meant HALF a brain. :3

  • @willku9000 you can't ask what's in a drink you like or as an excuse to stay longer? Remind me not to ask next time I get a drink if I don't know what it is then or if I want an excuse to stall....

  • @CandieBarr6669 well, you can. :3

it's just that, under the circumstances the line "say, what's in this drink?" sounds kinda suspect. :P

  • @willku9000 not really.

  • @sammieliz12 thank you!!

  • I'm practicing this to sing for Christmas for everyone
