  • That looks like loads of fun. i got a couple questions. what kinda guns you use up there? and i want to move to AK when im in late 20s and am wondering how much does it take to get by every year?

  • great! thanks for posting your video.

  • Nice video. Thanks for sharing. I have some gospel music on my channel if you are interested. Its a live band that I play with sometimes.

  • Rowland family wankers.

  • nice video. good for the kids to learn how to handle themselves in the bush..that's how I grew up. I heard the fur is thick down there! We've got some good martin areas here and the lynx are thick lately. Fewer and fewer guys on the trail now days. Must be sitting on the couch playing video games....good trapping!

  • im surprised there is any wildlife left around you guys what are you going to do when you've killed it all!!

  • Great video. You guys are the real deal! I wish I could get my boys interested in trapping with me. My Lab goes with me to scout areas and she is a great help. Again, enjoyed your video!

  • Looks like you all work hard.GOD BLESS

  • may i ask how many traps you have

  • @supersalty22 over 100

  • how can I buy bobcat from you? tks

  • @alexhong2580 There are no bobcats in Alaska. If you wish to purchase a lynx, we suggest that you contact Alaska Raw Fur Company (907)479-2462.

  • @alaskatrappers You and your family is blessed!! Keep going on. Thanks!

  • Rowlands

How do you like that Ski-doo Tundra 2007?

I have one myself and so far had to replace one heated handle, two intake sockets and one voltregulator. Other than that it's a great trapping/hunting tool.

It has 3500km on it right now.

    Swede

  • A wonderful way of life. All the best to ya's .

    Pip

  • i love the picture of the kid outside on the ice holding up the coyote its good too see someone else raising their kids to be strong

  • @monkey477oft Yeh thats being strong..

  • Where is McCarthy, Ak?

I never knew Martens growled like that.

  • wow now thats some real trappin ! I am jealous i grew up trappin coons ,muskrats and mink had a lot of fun and great memories but can,t compare to those huge cats and all the other fur you fellas harvested. AWESOME!

  • talk about the good life, i wish i knew how to tan hides without using a fire and stuff like that lol

  • I'm used to trapping in Upstate NY and getting coon, coyotes, fox, mink. What I did was a hobby....this is trapping. I am so envious. Good luck!

  • when i was a teen in 1980 -81..i trapped in ohio...muskrats were 7.00 8.00 bucks apiece... racoon for a exlarge jumbo 40.00 bucks apiece..20.00 25.00 was the norm. red fox 70. 75.00 bucks apiece. mink 35.00 40.00 buck apiece.. i bought my first car with fur money..that was when you could have a very fun time..and get paid for it.. man i miss those days!

  • nice to see some fellow trappers keep it up

  • Those are real Americans.

  • @dpedwards08 to bad alaska belonged to canada .

  • u done made me want to move up dar an trap!

  • What brand of Iron Dog do trappers tend to favor? For years I've read that snowmachines are all designed for winter sporting rather than hard utilitarian freighting. What is considered the best for durability and ease of maintenance?

  • @pinz2022 Most trappers prefer the Ski-Doo Tundra.

  • @alaskatrappers

Thank you. I've also read that there are a few areas in the deep interior where the salmon supply is sufficiently generous to make keeping sledge-mutts more economical than bringing in fuel and spare parts for the ski-doo.

  • @alaskatrappers

Reading Fur-Fish-Game every now and then sure made an impression on me. It looked like the pelt market is volatile at best, can turn one hundred-eighty degrees on what some faraway poofter fashion designer might do or say, and is in perpetual fear of what the Russian and Chinese fur farmers might come up with next. Can anyone actually make a full-time living at trapping? Seems like Our Heroes always have to spend part of the year toiling at straight jobs.

  • in 2:25 is that wolf alive

  • @joe1989vendela That wolf was dead.

  • what was that big cat thing at the beggining ?

  • @cornsnkaz It's a marten.

  • @cornsnkaz, i believe the cat is a northern lyxn

  • @cornsnkaz If you mean the second animal shown (being held by the legs), it's a lynx.

  • @alaskatrappers dude no way that linx looked like a mountain lion

  • @1iwillkillyou I agree with you; that was definitely a mountain lion. Lynx are half that size. And his handle is "alaskatrappers". Come on, man.

  • @alaskatrappers That looked like a cougar. Are bobcats and lynx one and the same?

  • @TheSkyeBox Bobcats and lynx are NOT the same species.

  • This may be an ignorant question, but forgive me, I'm from the southeastern lower 48 and it's usually hot as Hades down here. Anyway, on to my question - what is the purpose for all of the trapping that was done on the video? I mean, I realize it's sport, but was curious if it was solely for the fur or do you eat any of the animals? Also, what do you use for the fur that you harvest off of these animals? Thanks in advance and I enjoyed watching the video.

  • @TheSkyeBox Trapping is not a sport. It is a method of harvesting valuable renewable resources. Some of the furs are used to make warm, functional garments for the family. Other furs are sold for cash. Some of the animals are eaten.

  • awesome video

  • nice ! ...keep trapping

  • Man I love the video,to me thats what being a free american is all about.

  • Nice VID...love McCarthy been hunting for sheep afew times out there............. AHHH ALASKA..... if the 48ers even knew?

But then, inevitably, our Babes in the Woods sagas would end when the missus decided that the family just had to move back to town so Junior and Missy could go to publik skool...

  • looks like that little kid was bare foot holding that coyote. nothing like adrenalin and excitement making you forget what u r doing

  • wow very nice video. breaks my heart that i dont live like that anymore. one of these days im going to have to get the hell out of here!

  • Hi, We have a line in Central North Alberta and getting excited to gear up for this season. We just loved your video....makes us wanna go now! Do you have a cabin and a wall tent? We will post video after the season of ours. Nice to meet you here. Ross & Dusty

  • The Rowlands live in a very small, remote community in the SE portion of mainland Alaska. They trap primarily out of their own home and probably have a couple spike camps, consisting of small line cabins.

I invite you to join ATA. We produce 8 issues of a magazine each year and offer other trapping related booklets & videos.

You mentioned that you may create your own video during the season. You may post that video on our site if you like.

  • I have a question for you on some of those marten are you using a foothold on the leaning pole set and if you are how do you do it? I usually just use a conibear in a box on the tree but i want to know how you are incorporating that foothold.

  • Randy from ATA says the pole set is described & illustrated in our Alaska Trappers Manual. You can find more info about the manual on our web site.

  • what i do is i dig a little hole just enough for the top of the trap to be level with the ground then i put leaves over it not tom uch though you dont want it going off then i put mud over the wire i have anchored to a tree and i use 4-5 fencing staples

  • Rowlands my first name thats a first

  • that looks maadd funn

  • LOL the name sounds like something out of sound of music. Great vid looks like you have a lot of fun in some of the greatest scenery on the planet. Well done..

  • that look like a lot of fun. keep on trappin.

  • That's some great stuff! Wont find those kid's in any trouble with drugs and gangs.

  • That's a great video. I've always had an interest in trapping and I learned a bit about last summer in healy. I have one question though, do you have to bonk the furbearers with a big stick like a lot of the other trapping videos or can you shoot them? The stick seems a bit messy? Thanks

  • most people shoot if they can..way faster death better for animal with a 22. just shoot in head though
