wot a game , that one is a classic, in truth arsenal were poor in that match and we should have bag more on it, great goals from sharpe he was our real left wizard before welsh giggsy comes in
yep we did, only 2 european cups- Alex said he could have been the best left back in the world...and he could have been......Bad management.......the past is not a perfect prism just because there were some wins....
it was not a hairdryer for playing out of position but because he gave interview to the press about the hattrick without asking..it is in his book...next game he scored winner Everton I think, and he got treatment for his dance celebration on the pitch....Sharpey was the beginning of the new era....and we should have kept him........
if you're contending that you would have won european cups with sharpe instead of giggs, or that sharpe would be an integral part of a european cup winning side, more influencial than giggs, well one is entitled to ask:
why the fuck did lee sharpe end up winning nothing of note in his career.
and i doubt that lee sharpes defensive qualities as a left back would have meant you winning more european cups, after all no top clubs fancied him either as a winger or fulll back.
and he won nothing of note, whilst man u went on to win everything.
you won plenty without him, and he would never have replaced giggs. laughably you reckon he could have been a brilliant left back - a position he rarely if ever played.
he went on to do fuck after he left, united went on to win the lot without him. says everything
and ferguson obviously thought so as he binned him for a pitance. other top clubs agreed because none of them bought him. he did fuck all internationally either, he then ended up at exeter FFS.
you're the one who said "we're done" before posting again. i'm happy to carry on the discussion.
we may never know how good a left back sharpe may have been. but since he never played for another top side, and ended up playin lower / non -league football before he was thirty, it's safe to say he never came close to that.
united, meanwhile, won the lot.
if getting opinions from other people leads you to believing lee sharpe was a huge loss for united, i'll carry on thinking for myself.
ferguson is far from infallible. bellion was the next henry, veron was worth £28m. if changing your opinion to conform to whatever alex ferguson says is good enough for you, fine. you're welcome to that servile mindset. i'll carry on thinking for myself, thank you very much.
and if he wasn't such a huge loss, why did you insinuate that you would have won more european cups with a player who was playing for exeter with a few years of leaving united? at least be consistent in your ways.
so ferguson makes mistakes, yet you invoke his authority when people don't agree with you? very consistent.
so i repeatedly say things like: "hardly a big loss" and "like i said, no massive loss". you repeatedly argue against that, before saying: "you said huge loss". yah, very consistent.
you also say that keeping sharpe would have led to more european cups, yet don't think that a massive loss?
all over the place mate.
fergie was right to gib him off, he wasn't a huge loss. simple.
"you need therapy", "find a mate" "pulse off" "you can't read"
more inconsistency.
you think sharpe was the difference between winning more european cups, and was potentially the best left back in the world. i think he was neither of those. you want facts:
sharpe never made it at any other club and ended up playing non-league football. united won everything.
they are incontrovertible facts. and they support only one side of the argument. QED
read back, you were the one who made the 'dummy' comment. i'm not all that assed that i would insult someone for not sharing my opinion. as you rightly pointed out, it's the sign of a weak argument. yet another example of your inconsistancy, mate.
arguments only yield changes of mindsets when they are convincing; yours isn't anywhere near to being convincing.
my first comment still stands and talking to you was futile...so you can read all your points in their glory. Ferguson said Sharpe could have been the best left back in the world - I said we should have kept him. You had some therapy

Nov 1990 I think. The thing is, people will say (now) that it was only the league cup. But then it was a bigger deal, and both played their best players!!!!! Stunning achievement at a horrible ground to pick up anything!!
Ahh I see, I was gonna say even non-gooners thought Highbury was a great classic football stadium. Wish it was still there in all honesty, only been to the Emirates about 4 times, too corporate, no soul. Might change in a few years but still, not the same as walking down Avenell rd. before a big game.
I was luck enough to meet Lee and he said this game and the game against Barca ( with the back heel) were his highlights. Fergie gave him the 'hairdryer' after this game for playing out of position........
kb01942, well I heard it from the horses mouth..... He also said that he scored the winner in a game (can't remember who against, sorry) in the same week and got the same treatment!!
I think Fergie has calmed down a bit with old age, not everyone responds to being shouted at, sometimes you have to put your arm around a player and actually talk to them. I think he's realised that over the years. Funny to think he went mental after this performance though ha ha ha!
cheers Russ, lol still think its brill. Sounds weird mate but have fond memories of seasons 1990-1991 and 1991-1992, even though not league winners but its when i first followed united at age of 6, getting my first season ticket and seeing them come back from Rotterdam at Manchester airport with cup winners cup. Only Leeds ruined this era for me, they would awesome then.

kb01942, well I heard it from the horses mouth.....
