@sergsrt8 Ya it still has that sound and then some. The headers do kind of ruin the sound but overall its still an amazing sounding motor with cams. My video doesnt do the sound justice.
@UWISHPROD it sure doesn't. i'm listening to your engine on my cpu that's hooked up to a hi fi audio system...sounds lean and mean brother good job. wish i can do the same to my 08 wrx
@UWISHPROD it sure doesn't. i'm listening to your engine on my cpu that's hooked up to a hi fi audio system...sounds lean and mean brother good job. wish i can do the same to my 08 wrx
sorry to hear such a culmination of mechanical skills and passion totaled...but very very clean and i love the wheels! and youre right, I'm always hard pressed to find a cammed subie or any boxer style engine for that matter. very nice!
@UWISHPROD ..what valve buckets did you have to buy and where did you buy them ? Also what is the gap needed between buckets and lobe ? I have same cams in my 05 LGT and I thought I could reuse stock valve buckets ..
@VF52LGT I had my machine shop do the bucket sizing which he had extra buckets. If it wasn't for him I couldn't have done the cams. reusing the stock buckets don't always work cause the new cams would be a cunt hair off and you would need a new size bucket. Very hard to explain but hope it helped.
Omg, this thing just sounds incredible. What motor is this? I got an 03 with an EJ20. I would love for my car to sound like this. Reminds me of my old talon... I had a wicked cam in that thing
@06rex Once you change cams your going to need a tune. I did an email tune for my Cobb from a guy and it worked well. I also used my laptop with a program to change my idle. With low idle and cams its ruff sounding.
@jhaze918 never got it dyno'd. Car was totaled while still breaking in the motor and during the winter. Some douche ran a stop sign and that was the end of my car.
@jhaze918 Well I had the evo. The vids are on my page if you havent seen that. Then i got the mustang which is also on my page. The mustang is my project for now. But soon I hope to pick up an 05 STI and build the motor again and hopefully get numbers this time lol. My car projects never stop.
@STI4Life06 Wasnt bad once you got the motor out. But the problem is no one tells you that you need new valve buckets. They go on top of the valve springs which is what the cams hit. The spacing between the caps and the cams has to exact. So you need new buckets to change the gap.
@UWISHPROD yeah im sure pulling the motor was a bitch. I also, did not know that about the valve buckets. whats the reason you have to replace them? I was thinking about putting new cams in but, i dont think its worth it for me unless im building a new motor. To much work for a stock motor IMO
@STI4Life06 Only reason I did it was I blew the motor running to lean and melted a valve. So the motor had to come out. The reason you replace the buckets is you have to have the correct space between the lobes of the cam and the valve springs. The spacing is so small you cant see it with your eye. Have to use shims to get the right spacing which means removing the cam several times in order to get the right spacing.
cool wait igot the same cams 272 brian cower street setup eh but did u change the wrap around pipe it would sound beefer rite now running on 24 psi vf stock turbo also rite now got about but rite now my own kinda lump also bouth there steel valves and intake and exhaust and retainer kit and the 3inch cat back exhaust on meth with 750cc injectors and hks bov
@egomax90 Only problem I had was a regular idle my knock sensor would go off. With the rough idle the sensor though my motor was misfiring. So to fix this I turned my idle up to about 900 to 1000. smoothed the idle out a bit and every once and a while I still got a CEL from it. I did have a good tune but the tune didnt fix this prob. So me personally I left at low idle and dealt with the CEL as it came only cause the car sounded so much better then with a higher idle.
so how many hp's were you able to pull? no dyno tune? was it worth the cam swaps? ive got 300 to the wheels off of bolt on's and a dyno and road tune and am going internal next. where will i get the most bang for my buck once i start to go internal.?
i run 272 in my GF8 STi....( I live in japan so seeing a GF8 in the states would be rare to none) i've got ARC Frount Mount Intercooler....Blitz BoostController....Tein Coilovers....ERC Big Brake Kit....3" DownPipe with 3" straight pipe all the way back...Toyo DRB Rubber (245 series-almost too wide)
Question...I run 1.2 Bar safely.....but I want to upgrade the Head Gasket....how hard is that...? Thanks
To replace head gaskets you need to remove the motor from the car. its the only way possible to work on it. But also make sure you get the heads machined cause from the factory their off .005.
My machine work include hot tank for both heads, milling the heads, correct buckets for valves and only ran me about $300 or so. what they priced you was to much
Ya, there was much more availability to different shops that do machine work when I was in the NW. The shops down here in TX are dismal and make a killing with hardly any competition at all from other shops.( Subaru experienced shops)
aftermarket cams open the valves quicker, sooner ,longer or a combo thereof. allowing more air/fuel mixture into the chamber. more mixture, bigger boom. bigger boom, more power.
Well as you can see from the video the car was not quiet or well mannered. The car was a beast at high speeds or normal speeds around town. The car was very loud but that was also due to the exhaust system. It was a very intimadating car to others.
I have a 2002 WRX with IHI-VF39 turbo port/polished with STi injectors, Walboro fuel pump, etc. I am looking to add the Crower cams. Can U tell me how the car feels after the install. Does it perform well? Does it idle well? Is it what U expected?
Felt great afterwards. Now I did have to turn the idle up cause at stock idle and those cams it was to rough and the car actually thought it was misfirng due to the engine shaking from the cams. It was what I expected. On higher RPM's the car felt so smooth as well.
With the 272 cams I also changed out the valves, retainers, and valve springs with BC kit. That all. Most the other mods had nothing to do with the cams. But to swap cams you must pull the motor....just easier that way. Any other questions email me. Im very knowledgable with these cars. Thanks for the comment.
Your WRX sounds sick man!! I have an 05 STI I want cams so bad but I guess there so hard to install due to the boxer engine. How much did the install cost u if I may ask???

Damn bro. Thats the way to go is doin it with your friends for free!! lol. That sucks it melted a valve, maybe it was a good thing cuz u got cams put in at the same time lol
Hell ya it was some good times with my friends and lots of late nights for 3 weeks. But well worth it and yes I got cams lol figured why not while I had it apart. Thanks comments
Hey man, do cammed wrx's still have that boxer rumble when you push it? Because i know that headers will take the rumble away....

@sergsrt8 Correction. EQUAL length headers take away the rumble. You can get unequal length headers that will ruble just the same as stock.
