so much better than the 1st one. the hydralisk and zerglings are very nice tho the lings could use a bit more spikes one ther back and sides. also 1 thing about the high templar in the 1st video, arent the high templars supposed to hover?
Oh and everything looks better than the first one. Everything's great, but the archon could use more plasma energy stuff to cover it up. Zergling has improved alot and could use more spikes. But the hydrolisk is damn near perfect, I think that guys (hydrolisk) set. Sure hope you finish it.
Oh and fuck you to the guys that say this is bad without a reason.
hydralisk looks awesome. zerglings looks like dogs with arms on its back. scourge looks like it had its wings cut in half. rest looks awesome. btw the zerg needs some stuff like jaw horns/spikes.. and also something on its back. i hope you understand my critizism
cool, except hydras dont shoot the acid from their foreheads, they extend these sacs from their arms and "spit" it from their mouths or something like that. least thats what the animation looked like from the original starcraft
The Archon needs to look more devastating imo [] Giving away Lockerz invites! (its a site where you use earned ptz to get stuff for free :D ) PM me with your email if you are interested :) []
lol, that guy said that he should be on the Starcraft 2 dev team? Dude, have you seen fan work that should be on the Sc2 dev team. Perhaps the people making the fan mod Starcraft Sons Of War.
Looking good, exept the ling and the archon, the zergling looks more like a dog than an insect, and the archon has a bigger energy aura in the around the middle. but still looking good. Keep the hard work.
Awesome job man! Your work is really great, but still a lot of detals yet to upgrade! Really, You can do much more than this. The proof is that kick ass hydralisk!
First off, praise goes to you and your work. You did a fantastic job with this. Second of all, are you going to follow the books with this film or make your own story? Are you doing this on your own?
I will be creating my own Starcraft story that does not relate to any of the stories portrayed in the games or novels. Right now I am working on my own with this project.
I want to release the first chapter right around the time Starcraft 2 comes out. I have not had time to work on this project too much recently since I have some other projects that have looming deadlines, but I think I can get the first chapter out when SC2 is released.
Moving along nicely. I wish I had the motivation to create a short film but I always get sidetracked. Plus, I use lightwave at work everyday so getting away from "work related" things in my spare time seems like a good idea to me.
Not sure how deep you are into the project but the 2 big things that stand out that need work on is the lighting and character animation.
I think the lighting needs more fill and some softer shadows with some nice sharp back lighting.
your modeling skills are top notch. but i think the only thing was the explosion, couldve had more work done to it, unless it was just for test purposes, then it makes all the difference.
Yes. I agree. I did not do much work on the explosion. I thought about not including that shot but I had to show the Scourge doing something. Everything in these Starcraft films is a look at the work-in-progress. I just had these tests sitting on my HD and thought I should share them with the Youtube community.
Great vid! I did notice the explosion on the ship too. I'm working on a little fire scene and it's doing the same thing, "balling up" toward the end (0:52 on ur vid). Is there a way to make it look more natural and not ball up so much? I'm working with hypervoxels, and a simple wind object.
You can add a wind dynamic effect and also adding more than one particle system with different parameters. It's really a matter of spending ALOT of time and trial and error.
erm, i rly dont wanna be an ass, cuz your tutorials are awsome, and i'm not a pro at rendering myself, but, why does this look like it was made in early 90s? i know that lightwaves rendering engine is shit and home computers arent strong enough to quickly render all the fancy stuff, like radiocity and shit but you can allways improvise and get the same results in seconds, that would take you hours to render
Use LightWave lately? Much has changed in the past 2 years. Their rendering engine is actually considered one of the best and fastest on the market. The GI and radiosity output is second to maybe MentalRay.
Jason definately does use Maxwell, but as far as I know, very few of his samples were done with Maxwell and KRay.
Of course, these renders are on the extreme admittedly - it takes a lot of work and talent to make them come out this well. Jason is surely a master at texturing and lighting. It will be many many years (if ever) before I can get mine up to that calibur.
yeah the lighting work is certainly impresive, that's what i'm talking about, this video has the lighting and textures of the same style as the stuff from early 90s
That's kinda the idea. Starcraft came out in the 90s. The look of this project was always intended to be stylized and rendered. That's why I'm using units like the Dragoon and old style Carrier. You have to remember that if you go for photorealistic rendering then you have to use photorealistic textures and extremely high poly models to make it look consistent. Since this is just one of the many projects I am working on, that is not going to happen here.
well if that was your intent than i guess it's okay than, i did something like this myself, i tried to mimic the sega's 1995 cg style of one mecha game
oh and photo realistic isnt the way to go, most of the time, just because it looks realistic, doesnt mean it looks good. it should look pretty, that's what i like about japanase games, they dont aim for graphics that would rape your GPU and everything looks wet or plastic, they aim for a simple consistent visual harmony/style that looks good
btw you got hydralisks arms a bit wrong, zerglings look kinda funky too.
so much better than the 1st one. the hydralisk and zerglings are very nice tho the lings could use a bit more spikes one ther back and sides. also 1 thing about the high templar in the 1st video, arent the high templars supposed to hover?
still good job
