The biggest question is why Butch goes back. He was home free. He hates Wallace and they were both trying to kill each other only a couple of scenes earlier. And he really doesn't know what's going on in that room yet. Is it curiosity? Or is it something else?

Honor: By saving W, B continues the tradition of the watch worn by his father & grandfather. This is his moment of combat (hence the choice of the sword) in which he earns the right to wear the watch w\ pride rather than just be it's latest owner.

This is black humor at its best =)! Immediately after having got his dick ripped of by that shotgun bullet, Zed seems to be devastated mainly by the fact that he won't be able to fuck ever again, but soon he starts to realize that he will have to sacrify more than just his "rape tool". As Marsellus says to Butch: ".. or you be gone", Zed cries out in total desperation as if the words by Marsellus had just made him realize that he will die and never come back again, ever.
The most intriguing element if Pulp Fiction to me is the notion of people who think they're bad-ass (Zed, the couple in the cafe, the college kids who cross Marcellus) run headlong into an entire level of bad-ass that even they couldn't imagine existed. It's fun to see them get their come-uppance, but at the same time it's horrifying to contemplate that such blatant wantonness exists in our society.
@khkartc tarantino is a total movie nerd who makes stylized films intended to shock and entertain people. i wouldnt read into his films as portrayals of real society. far from it.

I'm assuming this entire segment is sort of an homage to Deliverance. Creepy stuff, but well made, and The Gold Watch as a whole is my favorite segment of the film.

This is black humor at its best =)! Immediately after having got his dick ripped of by that shotgun bullet, Zed seems to be devastated mainly by the fact that he won't be able to fuck ever again, but soon he starts to realize that he will have to sacrify more than just his "rape tool". As Marsellus says to Butch: ".. or you be gone", Zed cries out in total desperation as if the words by Marsellus had just made him realize that he will die and never come back again, ever.

The most intriguing element if Pulp Fiction to me is the notion of people who think they're bad-ass (Zed, the couple in the cafe, the college kids who cross Marcellus) run headlong into an entire level of bad-ass that even they couldn't imagine existed. It's fun to see them get their come-uppance, but at the same time it's horrifying to contemplate that such blatant wantonness exists in our society.

@khkartc tarantino is a total movie nerd who makes stylized films intended to shock and entertain people. i wouldnt read into his films as portrayals of real society. far from it.
but if youre still worried about getting ass-raped by mall cops, then dont become a washed up boxer who double-crosses gangsters, you should be fine :)

@dicksenya We'll always have pervs and petty robbers, but what bothers me is the notion that there are "pipe-hittin' n____" out there with pliers and blowtorches, or enforcers, wearing tailored black suits, white dress shirts, and ties, who quote ominous Bible passages before plugging people in cold blood. What Tarantino does so well is not only make it seem plausible but likely.

Matter of fact, in highschool, a friend of mine uttered this exact line in the cafeteria one day. Every worker in there was black (I'm NOT racist), and one of them cussed him out, even after he apologized and explained that it was simply a quote from a movie.
They threatened him (a 16 year old kid) with a law-suit, demanded a public apology, and threatened to kick him out of school.
This racism thing has GOT to end. It's only an issue because we MAKE it an issue.
