I'm the least racist person you'll come across. I know the arabs pretty much introduced modern surgery and medicine in Europe during the Dark Ages, among other things. Also the whole "barbaric" Moorish people saved the ancient knowledge of the Antiquity, in an age the Catholic church held Europe back for 1000 years. Also the arabs brought the numbers from India we have now.

First of all it's spelled PSEUDOINTELLECTUAL. You missing the E in pseudo and using an I instead of an E in intellectual is embarrassing for somebody having English as his first language. I suggest you check the spelling next time.
Second of all you have nothing. Whereas I have used several examples and facts from history as examples you haven't used anything. This leads me to believe you're either a troll (pyro seems like a troll name alright) or you're plain ignorant.
Oh, and if I am speaking incoherent babble, then please show me exactly what you mean. Elaborate and describe. This better be good. Let's see what you've got. Why don't you share that wisdom of yours here for us all to see?

Polish Astronauts: OK,,,ahhh they went to NASA with a mission & this is their story (film) about their mission: To fly a manned mission to the SUN AT NIGHT!
@fuzzywzhe its a JOKE get it? Yes Russia was the first to "orbit" but were actually not the First in Space---that goes to the pilots of the X-15 Program. Also, according to International Standards the Russians did not complete the First to Orbit Earth. Requirement is the 'pilot' is required to stay inside his vehicle until it lands.
He parachuted out--was automatic and came down while his vehicle came down by itself--
@rangeclerk There is a tremendous difference between reaching orbit (gagarin) and going suborbital (x-15) in terms of the energy required. Suborbit is defined as reaching 100 km altitude which takes 1MJ/kg of energy while reaching orbit requires about 32 MJ/kg of energy. Remember those nifty high school equations for potential energy Ep=mgh and kinetic energy Ek=mv^2/2? You can use them to calculate this yourself.
@rangeclerk That's why Virgin Galactic is unlikely to provide orbital services in the near future, contrary to what some believe. Sending humans to orbit is difficult. Gagarin's flight was a BIG achievement.
@Jacnas You need to educate yourself concerning Virgin Galactic---they are a "Sub-orbital" business, higher then the X-15 planes flew but still sub-orbital. There are plans by private companies to achieve orbital flight! We all like and admire Yuri Gagarin but he actually did not complete the flight because he parachuted (he had no choice) from his vehicle BEFORE IT LANDED!
@rangeclerk Again YOU NEED TO GET EDUCATED; When people claim Gararin was "The First Person In Space", that is incorrect; the First folks in Space were the pilots of the X-15 Program. As mentioned earlier, we all like Yuri and generally, we humans say he First Orbited the Earth but tech, by International Standards he did not because the requirement is the pilot has to stay with the vehicle upon "touchdown"/landing!
@rangeclerk I didn't say that VG has plans for orbital flight; only that some people say so, thinking that a path from sub-orbit to orbit is short. It's not. I know that SpaceX is doing serious progress. All this is orthogonal to my main point which is that x-15 can't be compared to the much greater achievement of actually putting a human in orbit. In view of this achievement, your complaint that he didn't spend the last 7 kms of descent in his capsule is just a silly "nya-ah! doesn't count!"
@Jacnas IF you had read my last statement to you I typed; "We all like and admire Yuri Gagarin but he actually did not complete the flight because he parachuted (he had no choice) from his vehicle BEFORE IT LANDED!" Also, i had said earlier according to INTERNATIONAL ACCORDS in Spaceflight & Aviation; a pilot is required to stay with the vehicle"---HISTORY requires like all SCIENCES-accuracy-given that; for "sake of international accords" we all say Yuri orbited the Earth but actually did not.
@Jacnas On your statement; "That's why Virgin Galactic is unlikely to provide orbital services in the near future," yes you did see your quote u sent me; "I didn't say that VG has plans for orbital flight".
@rangeclerk "Virgin Galactic is unlikely to provide orbital services in the near future, CONTRARY TO WHAT SOME BELIEVE"; that's my quote and I've seen people who say that. That's not the same as saying that they have plans for orbital flight. Regarding Gagarin, can you point tme to those international accords? I'd be interested to read them.
@Jacnas IF u read my statement; "We all like and admire Yuri Gagarin..." and is interesting to note the "Rules" were changed AFTER the Russians made the orbit---and if u checked my "comments" it all started as to "who was the First in Space" and that were the pilots of the X-15 Program. When the Sea Launch Program was operational, the Russians were surprised that the "Americans" wanted to celebrate the upcoming Anniv of Yuri! We Americans "give" him what he did" but truth is the Russians didn't
@rangeclerk The FAI landing requirement (which was written with aviation in mind) sounds silly when you apply it to spaceflight. The idea that his flight didn't count as orbital despite the facts that his craft:
1 Reached orbital speed
2 Made one orbit
3 Made a planned deorbit burn
4 Successfully reentered
just because he intentionally ejected a few kms above ground is absurd. Spaceflight is different from aviation, different rules apply.
@Jacnas Rules is Rules and those were the requirements than! But, not wanting to "hurt the commies feelings" and have them take their marbles and not play the International Community gave the Russians a "free pass"---IT WAS US AMERICANS that CELEBRATED Yuri's achivement when the SEALAUNCH Program started and surprised the Russians that we honored Yuri!
@rangeclerk But whatever, I feel like your national pride is on the line in this discussion so it's pointless to appeal to rationality, history or physics (the fact that it takes vastly more energy to reach orbit than to go sub-orbit like x-15 so it can't compare). I've learned it from experience. I'm neither russian nor american, btw.
@Jacnas Like most folks today, you are right there not wanting the "facts" to confuse the issue. The ORIGINAL ISSUE was "who was FIRST IN SPACE" and that would have been the X-15 Pilots! Now, also getting FACTS CORRECT, we all give the "Atta-Boy" to Yuri, for orbiting the Earth BUT ACTUALLY he did not complete the mission! Another FACT you don't mention (suspect you don't know) was he had NO CONTROL of his vehicle; any series of problems he would have died---Glenn orbited 3X and had control
@rangeclerk What kind of control? ALL early cosmonauts/astronauts were mere passangers and had no control over their capsules. They were test subjects. And what about Titov who was second in orbit and orbitted for more than a day (made 17 orbits)? Did X-15 make even one orbit? Do you even know what orbital speed is? So yes, X-15 was the first in space; but it's so easy to reach the altitude of 100 km with a rocket that even the german V-2 almost reached it without even trying.
@Jacnas The American Astronauts had total control over their space capsules---it was one of the major points of disagreements between the Astronauts and the engineers----the Astronauts won out and even got their "window"!
@Jacnas Well if it was "so damn easy" then why didn't the nazi bastards reach sub-orbit? Also, how come the commie buttheads didn't? American Technology was way ahead of the Russians as given my the X-15 Program...none of their aircraft could equal US planes---then comes the YF-12A also known as the SR-71 which the Russians could never intercept nor could they ever shoot down!
@Jacnas It should be noted the pilots of the X-15 Program Days were NOT GIVEN their astronaut wings until around the 1990s when my stupid govt finally realized they were the FIRST IN SPACE! Also there was political infighting within the US and Shepard could have been launched before YURI! Also there were plans 4 two space programs NASA and the USAF/NAVY but my stupid govt cancelled the USAF/NAVY one!
Wrong. The X-15 pilots did NOT reach space until August 1963. Feel free to verify. So they were NOT first in space.
Quit acting so immature. Give credit where credit is due, Gagarin was the first man in space and that's where he will remain in the history books. Leonov was the first to take a space walk. Armstrong was the first man on the moon. Why isn't that fantastic feat more than enough to make you happy?
Yeah, blame the "stupid government" for everything.
@rangeclerk There's a good reason why everyone knows Gagarin but few people remember the X-15 pilots and why history considers his flight to be very significant. It's because actually reaching orbit is a much bigger technological accomplishment.
@Jacnas and those "but few people remember the X-15 pilots and why history..." well how come "few people remember...? Sure not the data was secret from folks as I heard about, on the tv as a kid living on the Blackfoot Indian Resvation in Montana (Arlee MT) at the time and I was only 'round 7-8 then!
@rangeclerk Moreover, requiring cosmonauts to stay in capsules is unfair because the disadvantageous geographical location of Russia meant that they had to land on solid ground while americans could splash softly into the ocean. If americans had to land on solid ground they too would have had to abandon their capsules before touchdown. The technology to land softly on solid ground simply didn't exist.
@Jacnas Well, u just MISS A MAJOR POINT! After Yuri, Russians had ability 2 "softland" whereas us Americans still had 2 do a "water touchdown"---During the 'heyday" of Apollo & later Skylab the Russians lost more crews then US. However, thanks 2 buttheads like, Nixon, Mondale, Carter, Bush & Clinton we loss 2 entire Shuttle Crews because NASA had a budget a person could not feed a flea on! Now we will no longer have a manned cap in space thanks to Obama (Left) and Newt & Huckebee (Right) wing.
@rangeclerk Having a window in a capsule means total control? I'm speechless. V-2 could achieve sub-orbit but that was not it's goal. The goal was to hit London. If launched vertically the V-2 could reach 200 km altitude. My only point is that it's very easy. The only reason to go sub-orbital is for hypersonic research and that's what X-15 was for. Apparently russians didn't bother with intermediate steps; they went straight to orbit.
@Jacnas V2 were unmanned Intermediate Ballistic Missiles---& no "having a window' does not mean total control" was just part of the what astronauts wanted & ability to "fly" the vehicle. Concerning "Obama" , I have always been in favor or "Private Enterprise" in space ops but Obama has stopped manned flight to the moon, shutting down the space shuttle system leaves the US with no means of sending humans to space. Both the Left Wing (OBAMA) and the Right Wing (NEWT & HUCKEBEE) aganist manned op
@rangeclerk I understand your patriotism and commend you for your remembrance of the brave X-15 test pilots. I won't respond to your comments on US politics, it's not my business. But I will say this; Obama's decision to emphasize the role of free enterprise in opening up the space frontier is spot-on. You sound like you appreciate free markets so you should be grateful.
@Jacnas The Democratics since Mondale, Carter, Nixon (Rep-christian fund) Clinton, Bush have not increased NASA's budget. The moon is not a gold mine, it is a TITANIUM MINE! Many times the Rare Earth Elements on the moon than onto NEOS...to make Space reasonable it must make a PROFIT! Space-based mining and Industry--just what the Trans Cont. Railroad did for the US...
@Jacnas Under Obama he has cut the NASA budget even more and now the ultra conservative reps want to cut that! The LEFT WING AND THE CHRISTIAN FUND BOTH HATE AMERICA'S MANNED SPACE OPERATIONS!
Stop writing in captions. Chill down. Whoever uses the word hate to explain why some group of people prevent them from greatness is a borderline nazi.
@AlexDeLarge90 "...is a borderline nazi." Where the hell did that come from? I stated the CHRISTIAN FUNDS and the LEFT WING ELEMENTS In America boht HATE the manned space program as have meet them and they tell me that! Reading over the msgs sent between us it is clearing you do not have an clear understanding of the history of manned space flight! With the US Cancelling its Space Shuttle ops is a disaster waiting in the wings for the US.
For the last time! The first X-15 didn't just immediately send its pilot beyond the 100kilometres altitude for space flight.
The first pilot to pass that barrier was Joseph A.Walker, who in Flight 90 on July 19'th 1963 reached 106km, and later in Flight 91 on August 22'nd 1963 reached 108km. By this time a whole lot of cosmonauts and all the Mercury 7 (except for Deke Slayton) had already been in space.
Sorry, but since 1963 is 2 years after 1961, how were the X-15 pilots first??
Smelly sandnigger :) Polish people are clean unlike you fucking pijama wearing turd. I bet your mommas pussy smells like the city sewer from all those curtains she wears on her body :D I wouldent touch that bitch with a 10 meter long stick. LOL smelly ass brown piece of shit :)
Polish science fiction !!! this the worst science fiction i ever seen . hm what can i say polish ppl just fucking nothing and they got nothing only hate and sellfishness bastards pigs.
@hagarjamal1 Who the fuck are you to say shit like this? You are just another emptyhead american retard who can't even count to ten properly. Lick your daddy's balls, and get the fuck out from here!
What's the name of the Polish movie I saw over twenty years ago where there are only women left on the planet and they live underground. A man arrives and later discovers that the leader is actually a man who's dressed as a woman to survive?
whats the difference between a russian space ship and a polish one?... none, there both held together with duct tape...and americans hold ours together with glue :)
I think Pirx started as a Cadet, then moved to be a Pilot, then Navigator. He ended up as a Commander in Ananke. Not sure what was his rank in "Fiasco."
@shadowwyrm457 Well, he was mentioned in the first chapter (Parvis decided to go on a rescue mission becuase Pirx was one of the missing ones). Moreover, Lem stated in an interview that he was writing another "Pirx" book, meanining "Fiasco." My gut feeling is that Parvis was Pirx - solely based on the way Lem described him.
@JapeUK Well, it's a Soviet-made movie from the mid-seventies. Not all thta different from Space 1999, or other UK Sci-Fi from that time. "Overdrawn at the Memory Banks" comes to mind (I don't exactly remember THAT title).
What film ist this of? I dont remember a scene like this from the storys about Pirx.
I'm from the former GDR, i always loved the, well, how to translate "space diarys" ? of Stanislaw Lem, with Ion Tichy as hero, because it was written somehow subtile but also obvious. So it was so clear for peolple living in the eastern countrys, what/who Lem realy ment with his storys. But there never was a movie afaik.
@Phexyn It's based on "Inquest." We really learn about what has happened through testimony of various crew members in front of "Cosmic Tribunal." Pirx stood accused of failing to provide adequate orders during an emergency. Book is WAY better than the movie.
okay, but look the film, part of the hole film is filmed in Tallinn, ESTONIA! and one of the actors is also from estonia, I think it was aarne üksküla...
Are you kidding? And what that part of this film was made in Tallinn? Don't you know any Estonian films that were made outside Estonia? Does it mean they are "Estonian"? Besides this film is based on the book written by the most famous Polish s-f writer Stanislaw Lem.
It is an Estonian-Polish cooperation film. Make the research yourself! made by the Estonian Filmcompany Tallinnfilm, allso some Estonian actors taking part. i can not put any links here, so look for Tallinnfilm, their page can be seen in english too.
Actully, the book was published in two parts - "Tales of Pirx the Pilot" and "More Tales of Pirx the Pilot." The movie is based pretty closely on a short story "The Inquest" included in the "More Tales..." book.
Thanks for posting this. The last time I saw this movie was in the 1980s. This scene and the opening scene in the lab made a deep impression on me back then.
It was co-operation between Polish filmmakers and Tallinnfilm (Estonia). Result was superb for that time (1978). Director was polish... do not remembe his name, but he lately this year visited one filmfestival in Estonia.
cmoon that is impossible there is no speed that make break you hands like that and the pain reflex make you hands to open thats ridiculous altrough is funny
We're dealing with a universe here where all those mean Polish jokes are actually true.
Next up we have a universe where Japan's stereotype of America being seven foot blondes who are all equipped with handguns and drive Mustangs is true...
cmoon that is impossible there is no speed that make break you hands like that and the pain reflex make you hands to open thats ridiculous altrough is funny

@Jacnas The American Astronauts had total control over their space capsules---it was one of the major points of disagreements between the Astronauts and the engineers----the Astronauts won out and even got their "window"!
rangeclerk 11 months ago
@Jacnas Well if it was "so damn easy" then why didn't the nazi bastards reach sub-orbit? Also, how come the commie buttheads didn't? American Technology was way ahead of the Russians as given my the X-15 Program...none of their aircraft could equal US planes---then comes the YF-12A also known as the SR-71 which the Russians could never intercept nor could they ever shoot down!
rangeclerk 11 months ago
@Jacnas It should be noted the pilots of the X-15 Program Days were NOT GIVEN their astronaut wings until around the 1990s when my stupid govt finally realized they were the FIRST IN SPACE! Also there was political infighting within the US and Shepard could have been launched before YURI! Also there were plans 4 two space programs NASA and the USAF/NAVY but my stupid govt cancelled the USAF/NAVY one!
rangeclerk 11 months ago
@rangeclerk
McLarenMercedes 8 months ago
@rangeclerk There's a good reason why everyone knows Gagarin but few people remember the X-15 pilots and why history considers his flight to be very significant. It's because actually reaching orbit is a much bigger technological accomplishment.
Jacnas 11 months ago
@Jacnas and those "but few people remember the X-15 pilots and why history..." well how come "few people remember...? Sure not the data was secret from folks as I heard about, on the tv as a kid living on the Blackfoot Indian Resvation in Montana (Arlee MT) at the time and I was only 'round 7-8 then!
rangeclerk 11 months ago
@rangeclerk Moreover, requiring cosmonauts to stay in capsules is unfair because the disadvantageous geographical location of Russia meant that they had to land on solid ground while americans could splash softly into the ocean. If americans had to land on solid ground they too would have had to abandon their capsules before touchdown. The technology to land softly on solid ground simply didn't exist.
Jacnas 11 months ago
@Jacnas Well, u just MISS A MAJOR POINT! After Yuri, Russians had ability 2 "softland" whereas us Americans still had 2 do a "water touchdown"---During the 'heyday" of Apollo & later Skylab the Russians lost more crews then US. However, thanks 2 buttheads like, Nixon, Mondale, Carter, Bush & Clinton we loss 2 entire Shuttle Crews because NASA had a budget a person could not feed a flea on! Now we will no longer have a manned cap in space thanks to Obama (Left) and Newt & Huckebee (Right) wing.
rangeclerk 11 months ago
@rangeclerk Having a window in a capsule means total control? I'm speechless. V-2 could achieve sub-orbit but that was not it's goal. The goal was to hit London. If launched vertically the V-2 could reach 200 km altitude. My only point is that it's very easy. The only reason to go sub-orbital is for hypersonic research and that's what X-15 was for. Apparently russians didn't bother with intermediate steps; they went straight to orbit.
Jacnas 11 months ago
@Jacnas V2 were unmanned Intermediate Ballistic Missiles---& no "having a window' does not mean total control" was just part of the what astronauts wanted & ability to "fly" the vehicle. Concerning "Obama" , I have always been in favor or "Private Enterprise" in space ops but Obama has stopped manned flight to the moon, shutting down the space shuttle system leaves the US with no means of sending humans to space. Both the Left Wing (OBAMA) and the Right Wing (NEWT & HUCKEBEE) aganist manned op
rangeclerk 11 months ago
@rangeclerk I understand your patriotism and commend you for your remembrance of the brave X-15 test pilots. I won't respond to your comments on US politics, it's not my business. But I will say this; Obama's decision to emphasize the role of free enterprise in opening up the space frontier is spot-on. You sound like you appreciate free markets so you should be grateful.
Jacnas 11 months ago
@Jacnas The Democratics since Mondale, Carter, Nixon (Rep-christian fund) Clinton, Bush have not increased NASA's budget. The moon is not a gold mine, it is a TITANIUM MINE! Many times the Rare Earth Elements on the moon than onto NEOS...to make Space reasonable it must make a PROFIT! Space-based mining and Industry--just what the Trans Cont. Railroad did for the US...
rangeclerk 11 months ago
@Jacnas Under Obama he has cut the NASA budget even more and now the ultra conservative reps want to cut that! The LEFT WING AND THE CHRISTIAN FUND BOTH HATE AMERICA'S MANNED SPACE OPERATIONS!
rangeclerk 11 months ago
@rangeclerk
Stop writing in captions. Chill down. Whoever uses the word hate to explain why some group of people prevent them from greatness is a borderline nazi.
AlexDeLarge90 8 months ago
@AlexDeLarge90 "...is a borderline nazi." Where the hell did that come from? I stated the CHRISTIAN FUNDS and the LEFT WING ELEMENTS In America boht HATE the manned space program as have meet them and they tell me that! Reading over the msgs sent between us it is clearing you do not have an clear understanding of the history of manned space flight! With the US Cancelling its Space Shuttle ops is a disaster waiting in the wings for the US.
rangeclerk 8 months ago
@rangeclerk

Kapitan Pirx- Lem
pumpernikel76 3 years ago
I think Pirx started as a Cadet, then moved to be a Pilot, then Navigator. He ended up as a Commander in Ananke. Not sure what was his rank in "Fiasco."
bessarion123 2 years ago
@bessarion123 - in "Fiasco" he was dead... I'm sure that Mark Tempe, hero of that novel, was, before vitrification, Angus Parvis, the pilot:(
shadowwyrm457 1 year ago
@shadowwyrm457 Well, he was mentioned in the first chapter (Parvis decided to go on a rescue mission becuase Pirx was one of the missing ones). Moreover, Lem stated in an interview that he was writing another "Pirx" book, meanining "Fiasco." My gut feeling is that Parvis was Pirx - solely based on the way Lem described him.
bessarion123 1 year ago
Wow jesus, pretty 'dramatic' eh?
JapeUK 3 years ago 2
@JapeUK Well, it's a Soviet-made movie from the mid-seventies. Not all thta different from Space 1999, or other UK Sci-Fi from that time. "Overdrawn at the Memory Banks" comes to mind (I don't exactly remember THAT title).
bessarion123 1 year ago
What film ist this of? I dont remember a scene like this from the storys about Pirx.
I'm from the former GDR, i always loved the, well, how to translate "space diarys" ? of Stanislaw Lem, with Ion Tichy as hero, because it was written somehow subtile but also obvious. So it was so clear for peolple living in the eastern countrys, what/who Lem realy ment with his storys. But there never was a movie afaik.
Phexyn 3 years ago 2
So, who Lem ment in his stories? I've read this book many times, but never thought about it.
warewolfster 2 years ago
@Phexyn It's based on "Inquest." We really learn about what has happened through testimony of various crew members in front of "Cosmic Tribunal." Pirx stood accused of failing to provide adequate orders during an emergency. Book is WAY better than the movie.

okay, but look the film, part of the hole film is filmed in Tallinn, ESTONIA! and one of the actors is also from estonia, I think it was aarne üksküla...
andrefilms 3 years ago
Are you kidding? And what that part of this film was made in Tallinn? Don't you know any Estonian films that were made outside Estonia? Does it mean they are "Estonian"? Besides this film is based on the book written by the most famous Polish s-f writer Stanislaw Lem.
ulrike235 3 years ago 4
It is an Estonian-Polish cooperation film. Make the research yourself! made by the Estonian Filmcompany Tallinnfilm, allso some Estonian actors taking part. i can not put any links here, so look for Tallinnfilm, their page can be seen in english too.
allanseeder 3 years ago
This scene is from novell ,,Trial'' in ,,Stories about pilot Pirx''.
zenek78 3 years ago
Actully, the book was published in two parts - "Tales of Pirx the Pilot" and "More Tales of Pirx the Pilot." The movie is based pretty closely on a short story "The Inquest" included in the "More Tales..." book.
bessarion123 2 years ago
@allanseeder - wow, movie directed by Marek Piestrak, what an Estonian name! LOL:):):)
