Electric motors, their horsepower is in continous torque.

Combustion engines are in peak torque.

Because of this misnomer, the horsepower ratings you see for electric are roughly double the horsepower of an equivalent gasoline engine.

Now this part I've only heard. But it makes sense.

The speed you go is proportional to the ammount of range you get.

More juice, less range, higher power.

That said, electric motors put combustion engines to shame when they get enough juice.

And the new line of lithium and nano lithium batteries supply MORE than enough juice.

But hell, even the 1996 EV1 had quite a bit of horsepower on it.

The trick is that electric motors get 100% torque off the starting line.

It's a fully electric car, with an medium size battery pack, and a gasoline generator for backup electricity.

Makes it so that 90% of your driving is electric

AND has already used more energy in it's manufacture than any V8 SUV will use in its lifetime. Quite probably due to the additional components also used more energy in its manufacture, so where is the saving?

That said, a Prius is a crappy design model for electric dominant vehicles.

The better design model is a "Series Plugin Hybrid"

Aka, an electric car with a small gasoline generator.

The large benefit of electric cars are how simple they are.

If they (???) want to produce such a counterintuitive report they should produce the source data the math which is probably just accounting, is less relevent. The might be right though if the total energy budgeting includes manufacture. They could well have more energy efficient methods of manufacture than Toyota. Without the data we just don't know.

Wrong dipshit. The point is that during the production process a Hummer plant produces less over all CO2 then a Prius plant does. Also, the Hummer is a diesel vehicle which produces less CO2 than a traditional ICE. When one looks at the amount of CO@ required during NIMH battery manufacturing....whoa!

It is amazing that the building process of the Prius makes it worse than a Hummer, but you are correct. The new emission diesel engines now exhaust cleaner air than they take in in some cities which I didn't believe till I got to see it for myself.

And even there it's still beneficial, the timeframe it would cause warming is over a hundred years away.

So for the next 100 years planting trees virtually anywhere would be beneficial.

The study does mention though that the closer you plant them to the tropics, the better.

Cutting trees (especially older ones) that would otherwise burn stops the C in them from becoming CO2. Carbon is taken out of the earth as oil, coal, and natural gas. Cutting and burying trees helps put it back in the earth. Too many plants can locally deplete water sources, which only leads to drought and wildfires. Clearing out overgrown areas helps the planet.
