@markallen511 I'd love it if you were capable of thinking of a better word to use than "faggot." I mean, shit, what are you, twelve? It's lazy. It's offensive, but more than that, it's a shortcut to thinking.
I've never heard plumas cement but that year was a fun time to be a kid. Except that Christmas was a fail because nobody knows how to drive in snow. But I remember that like it was last year. I built the best snowman ever and everything
I live in the midwest and I can guarantee you that there are stupid drivers here too. The ditches become filled with them whenever it gets slick out. The problem is that too many people think it is safe to drive when it is not. Also: nature trumps FWD and 4WD any day!
that was a fun winter. btw for those that don't know, portland isn't equipped to handle snow that accumulates and stays around for a week. any moron can drive in the snow when there are salt trucks and plows out as it's falling and you are a moron when you try to drive otherwise.
@jonnysophie2011 in Portland OR not that often that was 07 but the last two were in 08 and 09 but the snow last intill mid Dec - first week of Jan sometimes.
i remember this to it was like this every where and i am in south east part of portland i saw 6 tri met buses side ways on a hill all of them sliding down taking out all the rest of the cars with them is was awsome but still id be pissed if it was my car
Portland tends to get snow more often than the rest of the valley, not just because they're further north. Its not that much difference between the south end of the valley (Roseburg-ish) and Portland, but Portland is right there on the Columbia Gorge, which acts like a wind/cold weather funnel.
I love the last scene with the white pontiac fire bird t-barred and all the crunched up cars. It looks a vehicular art piece. That should be in an art gallery.
@RedDragonAirsoft You might be right, but I like Oregon and Oregonians and don't find them stupid at all (of course I am from FL. so you see what I have to compare to) Anyway I would guess high not stupid.
I like you morons that are saying bad drivers. Do you not see the car sliding sideways down the street? That has nothing to do with the driver, obviously the incline and ice is too much........
Driving badly on snow makes you a bad driver. Sorry, but that's just how it is. People in other parts of the world have to deal with ice and snow on the road on a regular basis and can do it without crashing into each other constantly. Just go slowly in low gear and make extremely careful turns while understanding that, no matter how careful you are, you may still fishtail. A good driver doesn't even run the risk of collision.
@1JObooky Not to mention that this kind of weather is so rare in Portland that we don't have plows and salt at the ready. It would be stupid have a fleet of plows for something that happens every 20 years. But I guess these people live in such shitty places watching this video makes the feel better about themselves
@chefjlc the city is not prepared at all because it's so rare. Plows need to come down from mt hood. HOWEVER people that drive in this ARE STUPID! there's no excuse, I'm from portland btw. This was just stupid people causing stupid accidents. Nothing more
@RedDragonAirsoft Some people don't have the luxury of staying home because of a little snow. Does this mean they're stupid? No! It just means they're not as lucky as some others who can use poor weather as an excuse to stay home. I tried to call in this day, was told "too bad, see you when you get here" by my boss.
@1JObooky Not in places that are used to it. I lived in Quincy Northern California (Plumas County) that has snow refreezing to ice all winter long in-between storms and nobody has problems there.
Heck the schools have a too tough attitude when sometimes it would be wise to issue a 2 hour delay due to the hills in some parts of town.
The town has a real downtown with all the stores you need and almost NO empty stores and nothing closes in the winter unless the plows can't keep up.
The people there nickname the snow *Plumas Cement* because it's impossible to shovel unless you enjoy having a broken back afterwards with a trip to the Quincy hospital.
@mrsmelzbad - uhm, actually studded tires are expensive and portland typically never sees snow. the city clearly didn't even think plows/salt were necessary so while studded tires seem obvious to you, they probably weren't even available for purchase.
What is wrong with this driver, I live in chicago, I have drove in sleet, ice, snow, you name it. Never have i had an accident, you just have to be careful and a good driver. My suv has slid on ice but quickly gain control.
I live in Chicago too, and you have never driven in sleet, ice, or snow... because we have SALT and PLOWS. We get flurries, and those salt trucks and plow trucks come out. We have so much salt, the roads are white after the snow melts. Those streets, clearly have none - so no, you have never driven in those conditions. Idiot.
So does Portland,Oregon...At 3 am, when most are at home, and theres a blizzard, the plows are barely responding, the road conditions are worse than when someone drives to work at 7 am. That when theres sleet on the surface. So yes, I have drove on a very slippery surface. I doubt you live in chicago because you would know this . Dumb fuck.
Salt helps, but is not a solution. There is none, just 2 days ago, we had some snow, which turned into slush, I saw a SUV that crashed right into a house.Right by midway airport on Central ave...You sir are a fucking moron . The main reason why those cars cant stop is because the street is on a incline. If we had more streets like these our accidents would rise. Why do you have to be such a brainless fool? I doubt you even have a car or you would know this.
@liquidusman What's wrong with these drivers is, since it rarely snows like this in Portland, most people haven't the slightest clue how to drive in it. I have no clue how to drive in that stuff either so I just walk or take the bus.
@LoudProudNPunk1 Same here, at the time I lived in Fairview and I had no chains or snow tires. So I stayed home the entire week. I didn't even try to get out. So smart move on your part. If you don't know how to drive in it, don't drive!
@liquidusman There is something different about Portland freezing rain/ice ;-) I know 3 people who moved here from Chicago, and they all got into accidents during the ice storm. One was in VERY serious condition, but he made it through. They were all saying, "what's up with Portland ice?!" LOL!
@IsabelleHayley it's because in the NW winter weather is usually a bad mix of ice and snow, temps hovering around 32, melting/refreezing. its much harder than pure snow driving.
@liquidusman They have lots of hills, and rarely have snow chains, rarely does anybody take care of the roads when there is snow, and the ice is a little different because there's more rain than snow (the snow is actually more wet, then freezes). It's just a different climate. Plus Portlanders are not prepared, overreact, drive too slow and careful (that can cause problems at times), and occasionally hesitate in the snow.
Well this retard looks like hes still hitting the gas while hes crashing into stuff 1:23. I live in portland and this has to be the biggest idiot ive ever seen
yeah i live in portland and i remeber this storm.... since this was our record high for snow in like 45 years so we have no idea how to drive in snow... but most of us aren't that bad
Portlanders can NOT drive in snow. It almost never snows there. Iw as there when it did for three days (maybe in 2003 or 2004). The city shut down (for 3" of snow!). Crashes every where. I did not go on the freeway, but downtown was a mess. Most of the businesses were also closed. No snow cleared for two days. When they started they did it with tractors (not snow plows). What a joke. Snow is not the norm for Portland.
Even though they are not used to snow, they learn to drive during these conditions when they take their driving license right? If not, US driving schools sucks some serious ass.
@bikersrule07 Why is it that people don't like snow?? I LOVE it. the one thing i don't like about Oregon, is the fact that it never snows. It's beautiful, and is fun to play in.
I put chains on both my front and back tires.. I love how everyone says hey i have a subaru! i have all wheel drive! and 4x4 hah that dosent do anything in the snow man!!! 4x4 or not you WILL slide! i have a honda crv and i put chains it went fine i only lost a bit control going down hill.. But all the cars in this video.. i see dont have chains!!
its not hard to drive in snow and ice you just have to watch out for other idots and take it slow. wow we had 24 inches one year in a 24 hour period and i was driving in it in a rear wheel drive buick
haha, watch my videos i uploaded of the storm we just got. we got the front of the storm that half the nation got. never rose above 28F the whole time.
how is the punk rock scene there? got any midnight movies? most of my friends, people i know (including my brothers female friend) live there, they all moved from san jose, right now someone I know is travelling from FLORIDA to there...
@TEMPmichaelhansen The punk scene there is alive and thriving, one of the many reasons I'm moving there. The punk scene where I'm from (Orange County, CA) was once thriving but is now a joke and almost non-existent. Some great Portland punk bands to check out: Defiance, Wipers, Poison Idea, Sado-Nation, Criminal Damage, Deprived, Resist, The Riffs, just to name a few.
Wet+cold=ice! Seriously! Besides using salt or de-icer , how about a little sand, please? We have lots of it here!I don't know what else...meterologists know what's happening.. the DOT should be on it. And close hilly streets ASAP. Open or closed, you won't catch me on a steep city street in bad weather.
i live in portland... we have a bunch of god damn MORONS that live here that don't know how to drive and when its ICY and/or PACKED SNOW, people speed and drive like they are in NASCAR...
That is horribly incorrect. I live in Portland and this recent snowfall over the week before Xmas and into the New Years week ODOT (Oregon Dept. of Transportation) was requiring chains/studs on all cars on all highways (to include roads like Powell blvd/highway 26 which is a residential st) even if you had AWD or 4x4, chains were REQUIRED. On main roads chains are legal with enough snow/ice on the road.
Oh so this was for real. What frustrates me is why the heck to people here bother trying to drive in it? Places close, people don't go into work, so why go anywhere? Stay home or walk to places that are close by.
Roads don't get plowed here or sanded. That's what makes it so hard to drive in vs in Montana they did those things so we all knew how to drive in it. Even I know how.
The difference between drivers in regions where they are used to getting snow, is the fact that the roads get some attention in those areas. I've been shoveling snow from driveway and sidewalks for three days and haven't seen ONE plow go by. The snow is above my front bumper and I'm snowbound in my house. I am out of groceries and can't get to the store because the roads have been so neglected. I'm from the upstate NY snowbelt region and I've never had he feeling where I am snowbound in my house
Last summer was pretty damn hot. And this winter is pretty damn cold, with one of the worst snow storms in a very long time. So that's global warming at work.
True, but you can't get to work if you're dead. And SMART driving is at least a good idea in bad weather, clearly those people in the video were not smart drivers.
Well, just pay attention, who the hell accelerates when they are sliding??? Come on now... I moved Portland from North Dakota and have driven in way worse conditions and have never seen anything like this. Why the heck did they even keep trying??? Ignorance is bliss. The problem is that Portland needs to get the deicers/spreaders/plows out in the middle of the night before these idiots get on the road. If you live on a hill and can't hang, then walk!!
Its kind of sad that we get 2" of snow & its round the clock news coverage on "THE WINTER STORM OF 08" & Portland grinds to a halt as everyone freaks out about snow in a state where it rains 9 months out of the year. Youd think we would know something about bad road conditions & traction by now. More people need to get out into a parking lot & do doughnuts & brake checks to see just what their car will & wont do in snow.
People are stupid oregon you can get studs the first of november till The first week of April people. we have MTs here and the only reason people cant drive in snow, is because Its fucking Hills and CORNERS thats the only reason, its not that they dont know how to, its just the conditions that we live in in the city actually the whole state mainly are Straight HILLS and Corners.
About Oregonians knowing how to drive in the snow...well...not really. Ive lived in Portland & near it (Forest Grove right now) & even on flat straight country roads like the ones out where I live people drive like imbeciles. Most idiots drive either too fast, too slow or drive on roads they have no business being on (like steep snowy hills w/o chains or studs) & they dont really have any idea how there car brakes, turns or accelerates until they are about to crash.
First it only snows like once or twice a year there. And when it does snow it is usually unexpected. When it snows in Portland, because the streets are warm and wet when it starts, the street surface freezes solid after a couple of hours. So you have like 2 inches of snow setting on a sheet of solid ice.
I agree. It's rare for Portland to get these kinds of snow storms. Most people that live in Portland equip their car to handle heavy rain. (Our typical weather) most of the cars that are able to handle snow / ice are owned by businesses. i.e. taxi cabs, tri-met. Very few people own tire chains or something to help with the loss of traction. I've been living in Portland my entire life and i've only seen one snow storm that was like this.
Bahaha!!! I remember this day, got me out of a project that was due! Seriously though,it only snowed like 3 inches and the entire city was shut down. It took over a foot overnight to get school shut down at WSU.
Yeah, but the layer of ice under the snow is what the real problem was. That doesn't happen in very many places. Snow by itself is no problem, it's the ice.
I see a volvo xc90 there! are americans driving plastic tires or what. in winter you use winter tires with or without studs.the only people driving like this in norway are pakistani imigrants he he.
There are restrictions on studded tires here. Washington state, just north of us, has none and people think it's wonderful do drive up and down I-5 with studded tires. Half of their freeway is gravel now. Plus, it doesnt snow here often. It rains more. But frankly, most people who buy 4x4 or AWD dont know how to drive or brake (duh cars have more braking power in the front! if you brake in the snow you're gonna spin!)
Wow. That's REALLY sad that people suck that bad at driving in snow. I could understand that I suck at driving in snow because my car is 1) not really good in snow to begin with and 2) I've only done it a couple times... but for someone who LIVES there to suck... that's bad.
ya, i agree people need to learn how to drive in the dam snow!!!! but in portland( i live here) it doesn't snow like that much, maybe once every 3 years, every year it snows, but for just a day

I did not go on the freeway, but downtown was a mess. Most of the businesses were also closed. No snow cleared for two days. When they started they did it with tractors (not snow plows). What a joke. Snow is not the norm for Portland.
xenophobephoto 2 years ago 7
Even though they are not used to snow, they learn to drive during these conditions when they take their driving license right? If not, US driving schools sucks some serious ass.

lol here in the US they dont teach ANYTHING about winter driving..and I live in a mountain state.

@bikersrule07 Why is it that people don't like snow?? I LOVE it. the one thing i don't like about Oregon, is the fact that it never snows. It's beautiful, and is fun to play in.

how is the punk rock scene there? got any midnight movies? most of my friends, people i know (including my brothers female friend) live there, they all moved from san jose, right now someone I know is travelling from FLORIDA to there...
TEMPmichaelhansen 3 years ago

I know, Portland drivers really aren't the smartest. Especially in bad weather, anyone ever heard of chains? lol
senseilifesonsappren 3 years ago
chains are illegal because it tears up the road. the only place you can use chains is in the mountains on semi trucks when theres a blizzard.
thepainda 3 years ago
That is horribly incorrect. I live in Portland and this recent snowfall over the week before Xmas and into the New Years week ODOT (Oregon Dept. of Transportation) was requiring chains/studs on all cars on all highways (to include roads like Powell blvd/highway 26 which is a residential st) even if you had AWD or 4x4, chains were REQUIRED. On main roads chains are legal with enough snow/ice on the road.
Nveed1 3 years ago 2
do you guys notice that almost all the vehicles are of some form of "4WD" LOL cockyass people xD
mk701 3 years ago

Global Warming at work.
Hotter summers & Colder Winters.
Last summer was pretty damn hot. And this winter is pretty damn cold, with one of the worst snow storms in a very long time. So that's global warming at work.

Most idiots drive either too fast, too slow or drive on roads they have no business being on (like steep snowy hills w/o chains or studs) & they dont really have any idea how there car brakes, turns or accelerates until they are about to crash.

omg this look like a horrible storm. i want this snow here in columbia,sc lol.
growingup15 3 years ago
First it only snows like once or twice a year there. And when it does snow it is usually unexpected. When it snows in Portland, because the streets are warm and wet when it starts, the street surface freezes solid after a couple of hours. So you have like 2 inches of snow setting on a sheet of solid ice.
stormrider770 3 years ago

It took over a foot overnight to get school shut down at WSU.
frenchy32wsu 3 years ago
Yeah, but the layer of ice under the snow is what the real problem was. That doesn't happen in very many places. Snow by itself is no problem, it's the ice.
lilywhitedmb 3 years ago
god it's xc90..a human driver can't be so stupid like that
alialperuyar 3 years ago
I see a volvo xc90 there! are americans driving plastic tires or what. in winter you use winter tires with or without studs.the only people driving like this in norway are pakistani imigrants he he.
hydeqs 3 years ago
There are restrictions on studded tires here. Washington state, just north of us, has none and people think it's wonderful do drive up and down I-5 with studded tires. Half of their freeway is gravel now. Plus, it doesnt snow here often. It rains more. But frankly, most people who buy 4x4 or AWD dont know how to drive or brake (duh cars have more braking power in the front! if you brake in the snow you're gonna spin!)
ToroQ3000 3 years ago
Yeah almost all states have bans on studs, only states with mountains/huge amounts of snow (CO, ND, MT, etc.) allow studs or chains usually.
And good point, I'd say 85%+ of vehicles I've seen spun out on highways here in WI are 4x4 SUV's/trucks.
saosurvive126 3 years ago
Wow. That's REALLY sad that people suck that bad at driving in snow. I could understand that I suck at driving in snow because my car is 1) not really good in snow to begin with and 2) I've only done it a couple times... but for someone who LIVES there to suck... that's bad.
phantom240 3 years ago
ya, i agree people need to learn how to drive in the dam snow!!!! but in portland( i live here) it doesn't snow like that much, maybe once every 3 years, every year it snows, but for just a day

i think it's understandable that it's hard to drive in snow. but rain? you should see the idiots that can't drive in the rain!
brittyn 3 years ago
The problem isn't the rain, per-say.
It's the oil and grime that collectes on the streat, and then forms an oily film on the road when it rains after a long dry spell.
