WE WERE ALL LUCKY TO KNOW AND APPRECIATE HIS MUSIC. I REALLY HAVE A HARD TIME PICKING MY FAVORITE. I MISS HIM...AS I'M SURE EVERYONE THAT EVER KNEW HIM, IS MISSING HIM TODAY. THINKING OF YOU AND YOUR LOVED ONES................
I am so happy that there is a bossanova version of Round Midnight! It totally adds a different touch to this immortal song...and Kenny Rankin gave justice to a legacy!
Kenny loved performing in Hawaii and I was blessed to see him several times at the Waikiki Shell. Aloha, Bruddah Kenny...safe journey to His arms. Say "howzit to Bruddah Iz and Mackie Feary whose jazz licks in his voice reminded me of you!
He came to Edmond, Oklahoma's Jazz Lab and he was amazing, cortial, and delivered a great performance. He stayed after the show and signed autographs.
Don't know Michael Franks but Dylan is as big a jerk as I am. As to the top to assholes they are, 1) Kenny Rogers 2) Rickie Skaggs. And Skaggs claims to be a christian.
I just read some web-stuff about KR. Hmmm. If what I read is true, then maybe a**hole is American for 'pompous', or,'Ain't I the greatest?' Still sings ok though.
you are not very bright,,and as to the audience, this is a very intimate tv production with maybe 40 people at the tables. you just heard of kenny?..and you think he justsounds ok?..you must be around 20 years , and obviously dont know much about singing.
Vince... How do you know how bright or otherwise I am? I live in a free country. I am entitled to express an opinion. As to Rankin's singing? I didn't insult his singing. I just wasn't particularly impressed. I don't sing, but as a young man I couldand did. Someone else said he was an ***hole. I just researched the guy. What I found tells me, Rankin thinks he is great. Do I HAVE to believe him? My advice Vince? READ ALL the comments. Oh... I shall be 69 in February next year.
probably he is not one of the best singer on jazz scenes, but he is an excellent musician and arranger composer. Meaybe he is not a good match with your musical tastes, that's all.... Ps How much do you know about singing?
The audience didn't seem all that over-enthusiastic. Polite applause was how I'd rate it. But the guitar solo was something else! Never heard Rankin before. He has a wide range to his voice, but as an a**hole, I dunno! never met the guy.
I've always been a fan of him and he is an amazing player and singer. When i first heard his most well known tune "Haven't We Met", i was instantly hooked and it made me want to play guitar. And that was the first tune i learned heheh. He's a good guy.
He is certainly the most versatile male vocalist ever. His range is incredible, his guitar playing is astonding and his feeling is beyond compare. Too bad he's one of the third biggest asshole in the music industry.
asshole? One of the nicest people around. People like bob dylan and Michael Franks would not work with him and he would not be called on for session work if he was a huge a**hole
this is really unique. . round midnight is usually placed jazz, but kenny made it the bossa way. .. very effective. . . and i can better keep track of the chord progression. .. nice job kenny . .
Finally a rendition of this song I like. Never liked the song until I heard Kenny Rankin sing it. Like Ray Charles, he makes everything sound like it's his song.
Nope. This one's on e minor, a guitar friendly key, but the original's in e flat minor. Just looked in my Real Book. As a vocalist, you gotta change keys to accommodate your range. BUT, as a vocalist/guitarist, ya gotta make it as easy as possible on the old git.
