dude no she gives you the barheim key no matter what items you give her, its the bonus reward that changes. if you give her the skin you get an additional golden amulet

Yeah, you can use the ferry, but afterwards, there's no chocobo. Thus you'll need to walk to Bubblevale, which has a lot of enemies targetting you. Your choice really. I prefer the safe route, plus, I get to unlock a sidequest.
I'm freaking scared of the Wild Saurian.
