OK... STOP... Renegade was a great game for the arcade and the NES.
Renegade was the predecessor to Double Dragon, they even used similar controls for Double Dragon2. The only guys who bash Renegade, Sucked at games that were not easy as taking a shit.
@CEEPMDEE Nothing is wrong with me. We all have an opinion. Not everybody is going to like the same games as you do man. Double Dragon is a much better game than this.
i had the same difficulty before. but i adapted to it by actually running away (forcing you to turn your back away from the target thus executing the kick to your ooponent.
also tried running then punching (it knocks your opponent down, even big as KIM)
those were the challenge of the earlier games such as this with limited controls. u simply have to adapt! and utilize available make your own techniques
Bad or broken controls is no excuse for a good challenge. No game should have awkward or broken controls. Earlier games like Mega Man and Castlevania are examples of this.
yup in some ways it is.. its like castlevania's Alucard in SOTN (symphony of the night) with lots of level up.. and equipments to collect.. some puzzles as well.. u should try it.
cool review, that big woman kim? more like betty bou on steroids! them gang members are like the sharks and jets of the west side story. well done ur commentary is awsome and funny!
I don't know about the NES port, but the key to this game is FIGHT DIRTY. Be as cheap as possible. The enemy gets weapons, vehicles, and gangs up on you. You have to beat 'em when they're down, throw them off the sides (for an instant kill), run around (and use your dash attacks to keep the pack off balance). Still, the time limit is probably the most annoying factor, because it'll wipe you out even if you're doing great, and have to start all over...
The arcade version of Renegade is surprisingly playable... but with a daunting difficulty level. Definitely an "ironman" game!
A lot of the gameplay mechanics would show up in later (and better) games by the same company... Double Dragon 1 & 2, Combatribes and Double Dragon Advance. "Target: Renegade" was an awful sequel, though.
The doors are insane... I notice there were way more doors in this one. That's just plain unfair. I guess they realize you're wasting quarters in the arcade and cut you a break. Also the arcade has that stage with the knife guys, where you can't take a single hit... but at least you can literally RUN EVERYONE OVER which is hilarious.

You can't bash Renegade... what's wrong with you?

Ohya, the story and ending suck dude. Cool review.
starsoldier1 2 years ago
Ohya! I can't believe Taito had the audacity to be that lazy with the ending. What is this, Captain Skyhawk?
ronmower 2 years ago
Heh heh, maybe they thought it was Athena, Karnov, or Indiana Jones and the Temple of Doom.
starsoldier1 2 years ago
I haven't played any of those games. But I did see AVGN review Temple of Doom. The movie is ECW!

Ok as far as beat em ups on NES go i can't imagine anyone who would think Renegade is better than Double Dragon.

Once again, what a lame ending ..

Yeh really. Show more than just the freakin credits. This ending is just as bad as Captain Skyhawks ending where it said "Game Over."

i even remember playing renegade level 3.. in room with 3 KIMS. just do the running then punching trick. and youll easily beat them..
or, run opposite way. then kick opponent, immediately turn back then grab and throw . then run sit on his belly then punch till he's out.
anyway.. the best nes games for me
1. Megaman 6
2. Double dragon 2
3. Strider (ever played it?).
redjimenez 2 years ago
MM6 and DD2 are awesome. I recently did a collab video of DD2.
I have not played Strider. Is that kind if like Shinobi?

No problem. I am glad people appreciate me playing this game for them to show them the horror of it.

the bike part is a like road rash 3 but RR3 is more fun cos you get to use weapons!
yekrut22 3 years ago
The arcade versions are each unique in terms of graphics and sound: Kuniokun is the Japanese and Renegade is the US.
Now that "ride the bike" stage is definitely NOT in either version, and looks fun!
