  • Not bad for a Sea Cadet :P

  • no skill xP

  • try not to sway your body so much, and stay within your plane! that final toss would've been awesome if you didn't have to reach for it. but other than that it was pretty cool.

  • try not to sway your body so much, and stay within your plane! that final toss would've been awesome if you didn't have to reach for it.

  • wow, you the kind of drum major that gives sea cadet a good name :)

  • boring

  • Try not to sway your body as much, and don't watch the mace as much. Other than that, fantastic.

  • i love how he drew the attention away from the shitty band:)

  • im a drum major in the army cadets, this is bull crap compared what we get taught !.. your good, but u should learn much more tech kinda routine.

  • @Runcie94 dude.. dont be hating you army cadet newb, air cadets 4 life

  • look up arty mac it should help you

  • @jewmajorj arty mac has a complete different style this is royal canadian sea cadets drum majoring i do the same stuff

  • i am a sea cadet drum major instructor and i must say you have some serious talent kid keep with it your a natural.

  • Comment removed

  • nice i am drum major in air cadets and to me your pritty good

  • No offense, but you're kind of adding to the reputation that Air Cadets can't spell or use proper grammar techniques. :\

  • @sammxanarchy Wow, that was both unrelated to the video and it was also stereotypical. A stereotype that I have never even heard before. I am an Air Cadet in my seventh year, and does it seem like I have bad grammar and spelling?

I will admit though... their spelling and grammar (I just read it now) is pretty nasty...

  • @MOTHforLife Despite the comment being a year old, I still stand by it. I don't mean to cause any tension or arguments, and I retired as a WO2 in a very well populated Toronto squadron so I hope I'm not coming off as an arrogant or ignorant commenter. But for the record, I was not creating the stereotype... I was stating that the previous comment which I was replying to was part of the reason it (may) exist. Sorry for any misunderstandings.

  • Excellent job.

  • big fail!!!!

  • 40-44 sec is fail

  • you have to send me a video on how you did that

  • Hey Cam. C hit me with a PM

  • I've just become drum major of my high school band and am beginning to build a routine. Does anyone have any tips to share about what moves and techniques specifically make a good routine?

  • Just make sure it's clean and if you cant do the difficult moves, then stick to basics.

  • Look up the guy artymac and look online for that stuff. it's everywhere.

  • is this canadian sea cadets?

  • of course it is

  • nice job, its my first year im still trying to learning some moves

  • You need some serious body control. And the tosses were weird. But it wasnt that bad :|

  • fail

  • Good job. Despite the fact one person said you looked as if you lacked confidence because of your FACIAL EXPRESSION, I beg to differ. You did quite well. Lol...-sigh-@these critics with no talent

  • that is FREAKIN INSANE!!!!!!!!

  • so much body movement and facial expression shows lack of confidence

  • hmm id say about average as well, body control needs work, spin speed is inconsistent, and hand placement needs to be on the balance point. also try not to hop when you toss, overall is was average, i do thing you wraps and transfers were nicely executed

  • Good? Average at best. More throws are required, but they should vary in height, spin, and speed. The sunset was lame - granted it was indoors. To be really good you have to flirt with danger. Otherwise you're just a baton twirler.

The MACE goes back to the middle ages. The drum major's role was to protect the drummers and pipe players, not just lead them around. The mace was his weapon. I've been to museums in Europe that have really early maces, and they were more like street gang weapons.

  • while i respect you view of the historical significance, the MACE these days is more ceremonial. Could you please upload a video of what you mean?

I'm taking up mace this summer

  • Mind yer toaster

  • The main reason for the mase, it's a weight that is on the paton or it give the Drum Major a challenge that, when it's tosed into the air, either it is droped and cought quicker than if it were light weight inside the mase itself and the blade, to symbolize for sharpness and disappline for the band itself.

  • im sorry but ive never understood the use for a mace. How does it possibly keep the band on beat. The marching band im in the drum majors actually conduct like the band director would

  • thats because your drum majors are corps style.

Its all for show and tradition.

  • Speaking from one drum major to another (Top NB/PEI Air Cadet 2006) This was some pretty good stuff, but would look slightly better with less wraps and more throws...mind you the power throw at the end was well done...

  • Really good!

  • this is freaking awesome !

i wish i can do some sort like this .

    aha!

  • hahaha my friend Albert Choi pwns him.

  • not bad im very impressed actually as a 3 time winner it was good...but its more challanging on drum and bugle...very good sunset though:)

  • He didnt do a neck spin he did a Neck Wrap there is a big difference

  • Pretty good, you slowed down on the neck spin, and you looked up on the throw, I get hit in the knee's by my director if i look up... also, I really don't like your uniform... I'd gripe for some new ones if i were you

  • uh thats the canadian sea cadet uniform and i dont think there gonna change it anytime soon

  • really? dude... that sucks...

  • not really there actually really comfortable lol

  • yeah... I've always had an uncomfortable uniform, but I was always like "eh, it looks cool, we're good" then I was in the Seattle Cascades (Drum and Bugal Corps) and those uniforms were VERY comfortable

  • Precise planes. Needs a little cleaning up, but other than that, great performance :]

  • Spinning isn't everything. But still, very nicely done.

  • wow, your amazing., my drum major has been inspiered by you and is trying very hard for our next compition!

keep up the good work you are very talanted.

  • i say: my band's drum major should do this

he's be smoking out the competition if you all think this is the best there is

    :D

i love our drum majors, sorry

    ahahahaha, but seriously

    mace is the best

    hmm...this could be more interesting...really...

  • All but one of his neck wraps are parallel with the ground (so wtf baribigbird06? stick to sesame street)

And he has "unclear plane changes" because he smoothly transitions from one plane of rotation to another except when doing deliberate sudden changes boldly saying 'I am now doing a different trick'

So - as the only other DM of similar age, and only other Canadian cadet - I believe I have the most valid opinion.

    Opinion: That Sea Cadet rocks.

  • LOL My opinion is that Air Cadets rock, but that's a biased decision, just as yours is somewhat LOL.

as for his performance, damn he's good, especially since he's younger than 19.

  • As the only other DM of similar age, and an actual witness at the competition, I believe I have the most valid opinion. Nam is a great guy he's 19 now and was part of the Canadian Sea Cadet program. He practiced a whole year with the soul purpose of taking home the Top DM award. He got third out of 20 or so. Well done.

  • Another DM here. In the "Jr. Military Program from Canada." (Cadets) I am an air cadet, he is part of the sea cadets. He is probably about 15-17. Most of what he does is many times better than what I have seen other DM's do at my age.

Is he the best DM in the world? NO! Has he been doing it for 5-6 years? NO! For either less than 1 year or UP TO 2 years MAX! He is spinning a 5 footer witch DOES make it harder. The "change direction" is harder than it looks (try writing with your left hand)

  • Shoulders move to much and he is trying things that are above his level of spinning, but i shouldnt be one to judge because i couldnt do any of that, probably because i spin American Military not Mace

  • The kids is only about maybe in his early teen's (13). Maybe from a Jr. Military Program from Canada. Saw them once and they are impressive. lots of them are around the age of 9-14

  • Actually he's part of the Sea Cadet program, which takes kids between 12-18. And he's around the 16/17 age range. DMs are usually those who are at least 14 or 15 however, as no 1st year cadet will ever b a DM

  • Speed inconsistency, unclear plane changes, lack of clarity in planes, bad posture. ie: neck wraps aren't parallel. Fast though... gotta give him props for that. By the way, I spin mace.

  • I agree w/ XitsDanny69X. I personally think he needs to work on spinning consistancy. He spins slowly in some parts and very fast in other parts. Spinning speed should remain the same throughout. Also alot of people are saying "Oh it's a premier british mace. It's longer and heavier than all the other maces" the length of a mace and it's weight should not be an excuse for poor spinning.

  • I don't think you should judge other people's comments unless you know for SURE they've never spun mace. How do you know? And I agree. He's got skills, but speed is not the most important. He need to slow down, clean things up and work on body control, too.

  • Look, its JJ89 in here. Lol, you posted the same Singapore NDP Deyi Secondary School band video. So you're a Singaporean. :D Me too.

  • the size of the mace and weight of the mace shouldnt be used as an excuse.

  • I agree that he moves a bit, but then as Dahonga said, it's longer and heavier then american 45 ect..mace, so it's harder to spin and rotate and catch, so why dont you try it before you bad comment about his skills

  • hes all right. nothing spectacular. because he is wobbling all over the place. and his free hand is all over the place too. you should always be aware of wat your free hand is doing. and then at the final toss, he steps forward to make the catch. but overall it was OKAY.

  • Are you fuking retarded? First of all thats not a stupid American 45" Military Baton thats a Premier 60" British Mace. It's longer AND heavier. And second of all I bet you can't do that shit either so shut the fuck up.

  • yeah DaHonga

  • those tosses is too easy

  • i agree, he sucks.

too much body movement, he keeps eying the mace after tosses, omg, the shoulders keep moving. *shudders*

  • he sucks

  • daaaaaaaaaaaang

  • This kid is my DM GAWG!!!

  • gjgjgj nam

  • Thats fuking gangster man. He owned me thats for sure. And I got third last wtf. Anyways good job bud.

  • Nam has SKILLZ!!! xD LMFAO goodjob mang!!!
