Doing these exercises using an acoustic with Kleenex tissue stuff between the neck ans strings as mute works as well as left hand muting, and you can do it while watching TV or whatever. It also keeps your house mates from wanting to kill you. This brings back memories of high school classical guitar class. I am still recovering from two broken fingers. broken thumb, and about 24 stitches in my right hand. I'd sue my idiot neighbor, but stones don't bleed. He and his dog will next time!
